Both. The first one is great (Dead Space 2 is an example of a sequel surpassing the original though).I'll get shit for it but they improved Hammond's story in the Remake. I won't get into specifics but I think the new plot points they added for him make him more sympathetic.They fucked up Nicole/Issac/the Marker in the remake. Remake also is cool in that you can go back and explore as you gain higher clearance while DS1 sort of railroaded you through the ship

Hammond is a leader dealing with a shit situation in OG with the Ishimura falling to pieces around him, crazy ass monsters taking out his team and Kendra constantly doomposting and ignoring his orders. This gave his VA an opportunity which he knocked out of the park. You can hear the frustration in his voice when he's dealing with Kendra and you can hear him trying to keep it together and get the team out of this shit situation. In the remake he doesn't even need to lead because Isaac decides where he's going and what he's doing. Hammond doesn't have shit left.
