My friend recently told me he lost 20€ from his Steam Wallet because someone purchased a placeholder item on the marketplace from a game called Click Adventure.A week or so later, Steam introduced additional 2FA for buying items - which is crazy to me.Even crazier is that nobody talked about this situation, aside from a consumer protection group mentioning it: https://steamcommunity.com/groups/Sentinels_of_the_Store/announcements/detail/534361794856092966Like, wtf.

>>721494684It wasn't a crypto game. It was a "regular" game that came bundled with malware that searched your computer for logins related to crypto accounts and if there were any it stole the money.
If you're going to sort steam or itch.io or whatever else by new and download free to play games with 2 reviews, do it from inside a virtual machine. on a separate PC. not connected to your main network. And definitely don't do it while logged into your bank account or with a crypto wallet and password.txt in a folder called "crypto wallet" on your desktop.

>>721491065Classic streams "luck". Now he's raising 10x times that.
>>721495861The main issue with Steam is that the game released completely clean and was fine for 2 months. Since it was a regular ass game it accrued regular reviews from normal people (and paid bot reviews) that made the game look totally legit. The malware was then added to it via an update, which for some reason Valve doesn't scan as stringently (or at all) compared to the initial build. If someone wants to fuck you via Steam they totally can, the only factor is how patient they are and how unlucky you are.

Is there any reason that we can't run games in VMs (excluding those with anti-cheat)? I've heard that with GPU passthrough now the performance hit is far lower than it used to be.
dont really get how you can do this,to submit a game on steam requires you to be an incorporated company, which means on a database somewhere is the directors full name and all their government ID and everything else.there's a paper-trail to the thief, unless brazillians dont need to do that or something, I only know Australians/US have to
>>721496037all you need is a veracrypt volume with a strong password, it's not that complicated.
>>721497172Nobody is going to prosecute a bunch of nerds losing like $100 on average, especially if it needs to target someone overseas. Never fucking do anything important on your gaming machine.
>>721491065Gonna add the context that's missing here:>Streamer was using some twitch alternative that exclusively used bitcoins for all transactions such as memberships and donations>The "game" has a cryptoleech that would siphon your bitcoins if you were retarded enough to have them on your physical PC. This was able to bypass Steam because the exact function looked like a dummied out function of gookshit in the programming, but in reality only activates when the developer toggles it on remotely through the internet.>And because it's all bitcoins, there's literally no way for you to trace the theft. This is why bitcoin is bad and the only people that've won in crypto are speculators trading them like stock options.>Game's dev was lurking through this twitch alternative website, found the streamer in the OP, and posed as a marketer who was able to convince the guy to buy, install, and play the fake game>Streamer was retarded enough to actually go through this in the first place
>>721496670The seed phrase is encoded by the arrangement of objects inside an edited version of the Tamriel Rebuilt mod for Morrowind. Due to not using encryption and having no greppable strings, it's impossible to detect with current scraping tools. Developing a tool that extracts object placement data from a game file and attempts to flag anomalous object clusters would be nothing short of insane too. Due to the sheer size of the Tamriel Rebuilt mod and requiring proprietary software to access, it would be beyond the scope of 99% of crypto scammers. The Tamriel Rebuilt mod is not complete either and will only get larger with time.Meanwhile, in order to access my seed phrase, all I have to do is remember a single location inside the mod. Very explicitly, you should not arrange the objects in-game, as player-spawned objects can be extracted from a save file (player-placed objects are flagged as persistent objects, so a cluster of them would be suspicious). This method can be applied to different games too. Another potential candidate was Neverwinter Nights, as there are countless user created modules of impressive scope at this point. Modern engines are not recommended, as they tend to keep more meticulous metadata and timestamps with modified files. Neverwinter Nights compresses all of its module data into a single binary blob and doesn't provide metadata on what was edited and when. The other strength of this method is it leaves no bread crumb trail to follow. My activity would just look like I was fucking around inside Morrowind's world editor or NWN module editor. The only way someone would know I did this is if I told them (like I am now, but you know). This method is compatible with traditional encryption too.
Literally all he had to do was store his crypto password in encrypted .rar file
>>721498594knowing this now, couldn't someone use something that read your ram state to get position/state data of you fucking around in those games?make sure secure boot is on I suppose so they can't do that. but if you have any kernal anti-cheat with a vulnerability I suppose they could also do that.>it would be beyond the scope of 99% of crypto scammersbut yes you are correct im not gonna do all this to steal $20 of doge when there's probably lower hanging fruit.
>>721498871>knowing this now, couldn't someone use something that read your ram state to get position/state data of you fucking around in those games? If you do a normal playthrough of the game with your save file, you create natural camouflage. Knowing your location when you're going all over Morrowind like you normally would is pointless. I suppose they could catch you if they caught you at the exact moment you were encoding the message with the editor, but the time window there would be incredibly narrow.
>>721496143>The malware was then added to it via an update, which for some reason Valve doesn't scan as stringently (or at all) compared to the initial build. That's because the malware itself was obfuscated to look like one of numerous dummied out husks that were left behind in the code, basically they didn't have anything in them to actually do anything. The developer connects to the game (it was listed as having online to deter suspicion) and injects the rest of the code needed, causing the game to steal cryptocurrency from the machine it's been installed to, and then once the funds have been transferred it self-deletes the code so nobody would be none the wiser. The only reason the developer was able to get any of this to work is because the streamers that had their shit stolen were all using a streaming website that exclusively uses cryptocurrency. All he had to do was enter their chats, pose as a viewer for a while, and then when the opportunity comes he pops a game request for his malware. He's literally watching these fucking idiots fall for the trap in real time before pulling the rug under them.
>>721499081Oh, and the other thing is, how would they distinguish you doing something normal in-game and you deliberately looking at an encoded message with positional data alone?
>>721493368Avoid going to Hell.
>>721491631they do, but in order to keep costs down they dont bother trying to cure advanced cancers, since it's impossible anyway
>>721499189im not 100% on the tools but i imagine if they can log your ram state then they might be able to replay whatever you were doing and just watch it back.then they might be like "hmm I guess those rocks could be a seed phrase" and try an infinite amount of times.a determined attacker might still be able to get in.instead you could just use any off the shelf encryption program running on an obscure linux distro and have a 256 character password written on some paper and it would be way harder (impossible?) to access even if you gave them the file.

>>721491065The level of paranoia you need to operate under if you have money in crypto is not to be taken lightly. All software stores like Steam shouldn't and cannot be trusted. Over ten years ago I bought a lot of BTC. It was purchased in person with cash from a miner. As you might imagine, this has now appreciated to a considerable amount of wealth. However a large part of the reason I have held on to it for so long is the logistics and absolute hell of dealing with it properly as a NEET. You might think those who got in early can just send it to an exchange and cash out easily, but that is far from the case. Here are some of the considerations you might not be aware of for holding substantial BTC.>Technical Problems1. Wallets are extremely fucking dangerous. It is of literal mortal importance that you use wallets properly and exclusively over TOR. You must assume that all full nodes and all spv nodes such as Electrum are run by adversaries and companies seeking to analyze the Bitcoin network such as Chainaysis. As an example scenario consider that by using Electrum without TOR a single wallet balance check to a malicious node provides them a connection between an IP and Bitcoin addresses. From this they can correlate this with any personally identifying activity from that IP. It is5 conceivable that just by loading up your wallet it sends information to an individual who correlates it with data that identifies you and they can come to your house and torture you for your BTC. Theoretically a compromised TOR with full scope ISP bulk data collection and backdoors to access data from large companies defeats all existing countermeasures that are possible except nontechnical security measures. You have to be extremely serious about checking balances over a network and sending transactions. NEVER look up your addresses on a blockchain explorer. Assume that all blockchain explorers collect IP/address pairs for analysis and ownership attribution.
>>721521140(cont.)2. Adding to wallet security, you need to be extremely technical and have a deep understanding of privacy tools, Linux, cryptography, computer security, and OPSEC. Holding millions on a single private key? You need to know exactly how to store it properly, what private key formats exist, how to convert them, and how to add them to wallets without exposing yourself. You need to know how to use AES, how to use multiple implementations of it, which block cipher modes of operation are secure, and why. You need to know how to verify signatures and ensure that every single piece of software on your OS is properly installed, verified, and not malware. Hardware wallets like Ledger and Trezor are terrible options if you assume serious amounts. Just look at the hell Ledger Leak victims are living through. Any hardware wallet that doesn’t provide TOR connectivity out of the box is not a serious option. 3. You have to use coinjoins if you ever want to move anything less than your total balance. It’s too dangerous otherwise. Those of us around in the early days remember the endless exchange hacks, database leaks, and breaches. Go find the leaked MtGox data, it’s still floating around. If you don’t obfuscate your holdings, you’re in mortal danger. Send coins from a loaded address to any service and you should assume two things: one, you’ll be personally identified as the address owner; two, the entire world will know exactly how much you hold. Staff at exchanges KNOW and will target you too. Look at the high-profile SIM swap cases. You do not want anyone connecting you to your addresses or balances. You need to master wallets that allow coinjoins, lock them down securely, and manage your coins so you don’t undo the privacy you just fought for. Mixed everything to new addresses? One insecure Electrum node connection later and every coin is traced back to you. You are FUCKED. Coinjoin fees are fucked too, but that’s for another time.
>>721521210(cont.)>Legal Problems1. If you adhere to the maximal suggested secure methods for holding a large amount of BTC, you are an extremely serious target for high profile state agencies. They know all your traffic is over TOR, from their data collection any address you send to an exchange from is correlated only with TOR exit node IPs. They think you are a criminal, you are going to be treated with suspicion.2. You will have big problems with KYC/AML. Where did the coins come from? Which addresses sent you the coins? Why did you send the transaction over TOR? If you are properly secured you can't answer these questions properly. If you use coinjoins you can be properly fucked. God forbid the coins you get weren't from something that will get you immediately vanned.3. You have probably committed some form of tax fraud. Why didn't you declare 'foreign assets/holdings' on your tax return? Where did this money come from? You might have legal situations where you have to disclose holdings like certain jobs in financial fields or anything clearance related. You obviously aren't going to say "I have millions in off the books BTC from a long time ago". This permanently fucks you in whatever jurisdiction you are in because if you ever say that actually you do have a bunch of coins then they will either accuse you of obtaining them somehow illegally or lying in the past.4. You might get fucked by civil asset forfeiture. Where did the coins come from? Even if you have a good story you don't have the proof. Imagine a scenario where you send a large amount of coinjoined coins to an exchange and they say "where did these come from" and you say "well actually they are from a wallet a long time ago but because I have good opsec I join my coins". They will think you are laundering money and you will be fucked.5. If you are properly secured you are absolutely completely just fucked for selling a large amount of coins. It should be clear at this point.
>>721491065>streamerGood riddance
>>721491065I mean at least now he's famous and will make that money back in donationsBut that's what happens when you gable like that
Nope I only buy stolen codes from Eneba
>>721521287(last.) >Personal/Political problems.1. Don't tell your family anything, ever, under any circumstances. Nobody knows I hold a lot of BTC and nobody ever will. This is a painful burden.2. BTC has been treated as a security, as cash, as foreign assets, and as physical property whenever it is politically and legally convenient. My views have changed substantially about the legal and political systems and their technical incompetence.3. When I got into BTC it was considered a joke for hobbyists, the idea of cashing out a large amount and paying a massive chunk of taxes to a state which previously ridiculed it and treats me like a criminal or a terrorist is untenable, it's not fucking happening. Most states absolutely despise cryptocurrency and to then maximally tax it is fucking pathetic. Pay for your oil wars yourselves.4. My only real option to fully realize this wealth is to fuck off to a jurisdiction with extremely lax banking and taxation that would allow me greater financial freedom, however by doing this I would have to burn every bridge and connection possible due to previously not disclosing the existence of these coins. I would not be able to return to my home country again and I would lose connection to friends and family.TLDR: Having a lot of BTC is only fun if you have clear documented evidence of purchasing it, kept good disclosure/tax documentation, somehow keep quiet about it, and then cash it all out at once, which is a narrow subset of long term holders.

>>721524849Explain what the military does with 500 trillionbillion dollars annually when bombs are incredibly cheap to make and their recruitment numbers continually sink.
>>721510484>JargonThat's not what that word means or how you use it.
>>721491065nigga cant have brain cancer because that would imply he has a brain at all
>>721524926oh so now suddenly your complaint is that the taxes DON'T go to blowing shit up in a desert
>>721524996If all of them did, then the Middle East would be a gigantic crater.
>>721493689come on guy, are you really going to believe that a global ring of pedophiles operates in the usa with impunity? that’s so silly hahaha no way
>>721524684Ah yes the JD. Everyone knows Trump respects departments and allows them to operate in complete independence even when they might make him look bad.
>>721524827>this form of theft is better because I get to pay for migrant healthcare>meanwhile, the rationing board decides you're not worth treatingIt's just theft, period. Justifying it at all is awful.
Epic Gaming Store won.
>>721525163>the president is a king and tyrant!>b-because I said soThe majority of complaints come from people who don't understand how the government's powers are divided.
>>721525278Anon power division only works if people are willing to enforce it and stand up for it. It becomes near non exsistant no matter what is on paper if yes men are at the head of those departments and the other bulwarks are just rubber stamps. But yea man sure, Trump and the rest of the parties should be kicked the fuck out for skipping their jobs too.
>>721525220Actually, it really just means you wait longer if you require non-urgent care.Real theft is having all of the medical systems cost money, so that workplaces only need to offer the bare minimum insurance tiers as a benefit and insurance companies can rape you mercilessly, all while you STILL pay taxes that contribute NOTHING To your country or wellbeing beyond the incredibly vague idea of "defeating the enemy" (who lives in a mudhut on the other side of the world).American health care is a big joke if you aren't making half a million annually and can afford real shit. I was offered a full time job down in Texas once, and the benefits package was a complete fucking joke where I wouldn't even be fully covered if I got shot- meanwhile, outside America, I had insurance that could theoretically cover me needing half my teeth getting replaced, monthly massage therapy, any domestic medical expenses (and I'd be fast tracked to the best care possible if I was in America ironically enough), and so much more because that free health care exists and creates natural competition in regards to benefits.
>>721491631The free health care is shit. I pay for private here in Europe as you will be waiting forever with public. In fact even with private I still have to wait ages. It took me nearly a year to get an appointment with a urologist using *private* healthcare.
>>721491065This whole thing is very sus to me.>>721491232Will say though, no one should be punished for getting a Jew disease in this Jew World.
>>721491065why can't people just stream an actual good game? why do these hippie streamers always stream these crappy five dollar games all the time?
>>721493368Take over a neighborhood of depressed farmers, be it rice or pigs.
>>721525441Just to be clear, I'm not defending him. There's too much of a cult of personality around the guy, both from people who love him and those who hate him.A lot of Murricans complain about shit in the government because they don't even have a basic understanding of how it functions, or is intended to function anyway. It's tiresome.Agree with your last statement though. Term limits for Congress nao.
>>721525475American healthcare is expensive because the vast majority of the country is obese and has to be subsidized by the dwindling healthy population.
>>721525475>free healthcare>provided by the government>competitionHad me going, nice bait.
>>721525792The competition is in insurance retard. Workplaces need to actually be competitive with what they offer, because offering the bare minimum doesn't cut it with free healthcare.
>>721495861>sort steam or itch.io or whatever else by new and download free to play games with 2 reviewsfrom what i recall, the guy received a message from the dev asking him to play it in return for a large donation. he didn't go searching for it.
>>721498594wouldn't be easier to arrange a bunch of assets like, say, rocks, and shape them into the password? hackers can't steal that, it's just a single rock used a bunch of times that only makes sense inside the engine, no? or is that visible in the creation kit?

I don't even have anything important on my PCWorst they can do is install a keylogger and try to get into my emails but most things have 2FA nowadays
>>721497380Why? They have his name and address go there and arrest him or at least put out a warrant to make his life living hell. In what universe is putting out a warrant on a guy that stole any amount of money be hard? It's like 5 minutes on the computer
>>721493368Protect their own. trump let their own supporters to be captured by feds and tortured for years, some of them even died in jail. Meanwhile the guy who organized the attack gets to be free
>>721507476You can track money to a certain extent but finding a person behind a wallet is almost impossible, unless they are stupid enough to post their wallet somewhere on social media.
why do people even need to have so much money for medical care? shit should be free or a extremely small % of your earnings.
>>721529868He has almost no chance of survival so the government don't want to pay for his treatment
>>721503875>SuicideSheep made a video gameWeird times we're living in, but good for him.
