I enjoyed Hades 1 but 2 was just extremely unfun from a story and gameplay perspective.Part of what made 1 good was the fact Zagreus was the prime mover of the story. Instead of just responding to things, he took the volition to actually make changes, making the story feel very energetic and personal. Plus, it was very comfy to not have another "save da woel" plot, it was really something he just did at his own pace and allowed for a lot of character development.In contrast, Melinoe never actually makes a single decision for herself. This is even one of the themes of the story! She's just an immensely boring character.In the same vein, while Hades 1 had (when compared to similar games) simple gameplay, it flowed very well, and emphasized a lot of free-flowing movement unless you were using shieldHades 2 just has so many things that make its combat flow stilted, even on the fastest weapons. While I understand this was done to make combat more weighty and committal, as well as differentiate Meli from Zag, it feels very tiresome to play.

Zagreus just wants to see his mother, and even after it becomes clear he can't leave permanently, he still continues his attempts to learn the whole story of what happened + get closer to Persephone. We see a lot more of Zagreus's personality and his faults because he's acting primarily for himself.Melinoe's goal is much more grandiose but it also makes her feel a bit more distant, she needs to defeat Cronos so she/her family don't straight up die, that's basically it (So far).Also Zag is just straight up more jokey/casual than Meli, though that's easy enough to say given that, as previously mentioned, he's in a much less grave situation overall, so he has the capacity to be more laid back. While Meli is risking her ass and has been training to save her family ever since she was a kid, so it makes sense that she's comparatively much more straightforward and serious.
