Best story imo was Phantasia, everything after that was bubblegum anime bullshit

I played Vesperia and didn't get the hype. Seemed like all the praise was because of nostalgia from it being the few JRPGs on og xbox.

It was because it was a straight upgrade from Symphonia. It was the first game with free-run as far as I know. So we swallowed everything that was subpar (like the entire beginning) and only looked at the upsides.
The cast is still mostly good though, and english Yuri (not from definitive edition) really carries most of the game.

Doesn't free-run completely kill the combat system? It has the same issue as western rtwp, characters can't attack and move at the same time so as long as you keep free running whoever's targeted, enemies can't hit you. Don't even need to glitch to become invincible.

I don't get the like for the cast either. Yuri keeps saying how he'll get punished for his crimes (that aren't evil at all) but that never really amounts to anything except a survivable stabbing and make-up sex with Flynn. Everyone else seemed like the bogstandard anime archetypes, but I suppose it won't feel that way if you haven't been exposed to much anime.

Since these are the very definition of anime games, you can follow the anime 3 episode rule and play each one for an hour or two.

For Berseria you may want to try the demo instead, they did this weird thing of drip feeding the core game mechanics over 20h and the demo happens shortly after that point with the main cast assembled.
