Exclusives used to be the main seller of Consoles, alongside pricing.

The following are the only games that are ONLY on PS5:
A list of PS5 exclusives:
>Astro Bot
>Demon's Souls Remake
>Horizon: Call of the Mountain
>Destruction AllStars
>Firewall Ultra
>Silent Hill: The Short Message

There are no Xbox exclusives.

A new PS5 Pro costs between $650-700, with an equivilant GPU costing around $350-400, paired with a $200 CPU-suddenly PC isn't really much more expensive, despite having a much larger library and more versatile use.

Consoles are nearing the end of their transition from unique corner of the market to corporate-sponsored prebuilt PCs. Before it was Alienware or Razer, now Sony and Xbox will have their own "towers" aimed at eating into the prebuilt PC market. But why would anyone want a worse, more expensive PC which limits what they can play-and which they can never upgrade?
>>
I think the PS5/Xbox Series X generation has been the "worst" in the sense that there were truly, truly no games.

So much of it was
>remastered 7th/8th gen games
>exclusive for a bit, then on PC/whatever

But I cannot think of a single standout PS5 game this generation that isn't also on PC, and there are no Xbox exclusives. We know Xbox have given up, but are Sony the same?

Basically always been a thing that Nintendo are their own category, which Sony+Xbox are unable to touch. Remember PS Move? Kinect?
>>721624405
Yeah, but the only things people really upgrade most of the time are GPU, and SOMETIMES cpu.

Framing it along console generations, getting a new GPU is nowhere near as pricey as getting a new console. Considering consoles are also marketed to have many users upgrade to a "pro" version midway through the cycle, it tracks well enough. People don't buy a new TV every time they get a new console, etc.

To buy a PS5 equivilant GPU and CPU is cheaper right now than it is to buy a new PS5-despite us heading to the end of the console's life cycle.

to put it another way; what are the big Xbox/Playstation brand series now?

Playstation used to have:
>Killzone
>Uncharted
>God of War

Xbox had some too, but they're all now eaten by PC. Sorry Xboxfags. But what are the big playstation titles? Because playstation/sony seem to be marketed as a brand, rather than a platform; their big games that all end up on PC have that Sony intro that marks it as a cinematic brand of games rather than a console.

Yeah because you can pirate everything for free and next-gen games haven't even been a thing so no reason to upgrade. GTA 6 will finally come out, a "next-gen" game like 1 year before PS5 dies completely and PS6 replaces it and only Sony fanboys will buy that thing

Yeah, the post doesn't say that either. It says to buy a GPU and CPU that are on par with a PS5, it costs less.
>but that isn't a whole PC!
but the only things people really upgrade across console generations are GPUs...rarely a CPU, if it's very very old.

The equivilant GPU of a PS5 is an RTX 4070, which sells for around the same that a brand new PS5 Pro does-or an AMD RX 7700 XT, which costs between $100-$200 less.
>>
>>721628232
The funny thing is, it would take a 2000 dollar PC to even match the Pro in real world scenarios.

uh yeah sony made it pretty clear at the end of ps4 gen when they started porting them

If you are building a PC from scratch, it'll always be more expensive. But you don't need to build a new PC every 5-8 years; you typically only need to upgrade your GPU.

We are 6 years in to the current generation of consoles, and they cost the exact same amount of money to buy. My GPU is better than PS5 Pro's, and costs around $100 less than one. Consoles maybe *slightly* edge ahead in price, but not over long term-and you are also then left with an extremely limited library and have to pay to use your own internet.
>>
>>721628726
>you typically only need to upgrade your GPU
That's patently false
>>

gta 6 is better than anything nintendo has come out with on the switch 1 combined.

>>
>>721624319
that list is so incomplete, what about all the exclusive 3rd party's like waifu hentai slide puzzle 7?
>>
Dont forget Consoles have to pay 80$ a year for online multiplayer.
Unless you are a turbo casual who exclusively plays only SP games this is an additional 480-640$ in the consoles life cycle.

Also you need a PC anyway for most stuff. So even console only gamers will still need to buy a new PC eventually even if its not a gaming one so why not combine the prices and get a good one.
>>
>>721624158
>Exclusives are Dead
>>
When i had Consoles i used to constantly want to get a better gaming PC.
Now when i have i Gaming PC i no longer think about buying consoles.
If someone gave me a free switch 2 tomorrow id still not play anything on it because i already have a huge backlog on my PC.
>>
>>721629143
Enjoy your one year of exclusivity.
>>
>>721628918
It isn't at all. GPU upgrades happen far more often than CPU upgrades. And again; to buy a CPU+GPU that puts me on par with a PS5 Pro, it could literally work out cheaper depending where I get it.

All my games, all my peripherals, and all my other stuff will work straight away with my new GPU and CPU. My entire library of everything comes with me. I can emulate whatever I want, for free.

If I spent $749.99 on a PS4 Pro right now, I then have access to its limited library and grand total of 5 exclusives. If I want to play any games online, I must pay a monthly fee to use my own interenet.

Don't be a cuck, anon.
>>
>>721628932
GTA 6 isn't out yet and won't be that good, just like GTA 5 wasn't that good despite all those sales. Hope you're ready to buy shark cards.

>The equivilant GPU of a PS5 is an RTX 4070, which sells for around the same that a brand new PS5 Pro does-or an AMD RX 7700 XT, which costs between $100-$200 less.
???????
the ps5 has 2304 rdna2 cores
the 6700xt has 2560 rdna2 cores and the 4070 performs 50% better than that
the ps5 pro has an equivalent of an rx 6800 that's node shrunk but has significantly fewer rops and that's on par performance wise with a $370 gpu
you can make a ps5 pro tier pc for the same damn price
>>
>>721628982
All the big multiplayer games are free to play, so you don't need to pay for online. Most people have a subscription to play with the game catalogues like Game Pass, PS+ and Nintendo ROM catalogue.
>>
>>721629323
>>721628918
It depends on the time span between CPU upgrades.

You would be surprised how many people get a 4080 and still have a 8 year old I5 like a i5 6600.
And then just blame every game for bad optimization when their CPU bottlenecks the GPU by like 60%.

If you have an 8 core at best than a GPU upgrade is enough.
But if you are still running some old 4 core 8 thread CPU or worse 4 core not thread than you will get problems.
>>
>>721629535
I'm being deliberately harsh on PC pricing for the sake of the argument that pricing isn't necessarily a winner for consoles anymore.

Obviously if you know your stuff you can throw something together for fuck all money.
>>
>>721629558
This is subjective.
The kinds of Multiplayer games i enjoy are not free.
I also play Guild Wars 2 a lot and that game is not even on Consoles.
>>
>>721629579
>their CPU bottlenecks the GPU by like 60%.

>>
>>721624158
PC also has fuckall for exclusives as of the past decade. Unless you really like moba trash and WoW. I wouldn't inflict garbage genres like moba or MMOs on my worst enemy.
>>
>>721630569
Anon, there are entire series of games that are iconic on PC with millions of players that aren't on console. Look at the Total War series, for example; millions buy their games, but none are on console. Most strategy games don't tend to make it to console.

And yes, those MMOs and so on are also incredibly popular. You might not like them, sure, but that doesn't mean they don't sell or that people don't play them.

If you buy a PC, you get everything a console has and more. That's the point; there is no longer any benefit to buying a console instead-but several downsides.
>>
>>721630812
Outside of the Steam Deck, PC can't compete with the ease of use of a console. You sit down and turn it on and play.

PC has the stigma of being locked to sitting at a desk and using mouse and keyboard.

The only reason exclusives didn't die in the early 2000s is because companies thought that DVD player sales would translate to selling more than just yearly Madden and Fifa, but exclusives have been dead since about 2007-2009.
>Consoles are nearing the end of their transition from unique corner of the market to corporate-sponsored prebuilt PCs
That was already true in the early 2010s.
>>721624319
>Empty open world shovelware filler
No one is buying until the console has actual games.
>>721624405
If a console has a budget GPU, then all of its other components have even cheaper equivalents.
In most cases just having a PC to upgrade from the last 8-10 years is enough.
>>721628310
The funny thing is that if you paid the running costs for a PS5 Pro, you would be spending close to 2000$ anyway, since the paid online for 8 years will cost you 640$, the base PS5 will cost you 500$ and the PS5 Pro will cost you 750$.
>But I'll just sell the base PS5 I bought
No one is going to buy your obsolete console roach motel and you can't sell your paid online.

Keep it. I'd rather have access to physical media. Even OP's meager PS5 examples still amount to more than a few MMOs (only playable with a sub), couple mobas and TW. PC has too few exclusives to be worth it when most of its games obligatorily come to consoles now. It was a way better investment back when games like System Shock and NOLF were the face of PC exclusives.
>>
>>721631021
You can do that with a PC, too. Turn on your PC, press a button on your controller (opens big picture mode), play.

It's been like a decade since playing controller/couch PC was an issue.
>>721631202
Again anon, your personal preferences for games don't really matter do they?

Consoles don't have any exclusives, and you have it back to front; console exclusives come to PC. PS5 has 6 exclusives, 6 years into its development cycle.
>Astro Bot
>Demon's Souls Remake
>Horizon: Call of the Mountain
>Destruction AllStars
>Firewall Ultra
>Silent Hill: The Short Message
which makes the PS5 more alluring than a PC's entire library?
