She’s so perfect brehs. I almost want to play ToB just to continue her romance. But I heard the expansion kinda sucked.

Why the fuck would you not play the finale of the saga just because of what people said? You have to play it at least once
>>

Getting more from companions you like is almost the only reason to play it. There's also some fun fights and the ending to the bhaalsawn saga I guess.

I would say yes but I am a unrepentant paypiggy shill for owlcats RPGs.
Realistically you're probably better waiting for the rest of the DLC to release late next year along with the new items/QoL/talents they spread throughout the game with them.

ToB is great fun. The Warden's Prison was one of my favourite places to fight through as well, way more imaginative and interesting than Durlag's tower in BG1, imo.

It's a really solid conclusion to the story, and it's absolutely worth finishing. Although you might wanna get a guide for how to turn Viconia Neutral if that's your aim, because the path to do so, is kind'a frustratingly specific.

The funny thing for me is how they very clearly didn't have any narrative space left for Jaheria in ToB, because everything was already closed off so completely in BG2. So her entire character/romance story is just going "Yeah, we're together and still in love and that's great." Only her final dialogue at the end of all things is very interesting. Conversely, they did a huge amount with Aerie and she came out of it really well

BG2: Jaheria > Viconia > Aerie
ToB: Aerie > Viconia > Jaheria
>>
>>721633392
He's right though, SoA pretty directly says "Hey, your party of fairly high level adventurers got kidnapped and imprisoned and now you're in a story that's barely related to the first one at all."

It works out because SoA is just that good, but it's not like ToB's followup was somehow less graceful than that. If anything it's at least connected to everything you've been doing with the Bhaal storyline and the Slayer form.
>>
>>721635263
Aerie went from a little crybabby bitch to giving birth to your first child is absolute silence, casting a greater divine pocket plane protection insane 8th level shit to protect them throughout the adventure then just healed herself like it was nothing so she could keep fighting.

Yeah. Although for BG2, I found Aerie to be a lot better than I replayed the game more recently as an adult, like I guess I had a bit more patience for her.

The impression I got was that, for most of her romance dialogue, she's really just venting. She's gone all this time, years, trapped in this cage and treated like an animal to the point of being completely crippled and she's had nobody at all that she could talk to. So then your character comes along, saves her, helps her and she starts basically trauma dumping on you.

She doesn't do it to anyone else, and it's not like she's useless or weak or anything. She's just finally being able to get everything off and actually get to be the victim that she's had to suffer in. And it goes to a certain point and then the story kind'a just reminds her that she needs to also move forwards and get past this, and so she does. So, I dunno, I came around on her a bit. Kind'a from "She complains a lot" to "She's venting about an absolutely insane wrong that she suffered through, and when she's vented too much she picks herself up and moves forward."

Biggest issue really is that it's silly the level of power both the player character and she can have, and her wings just can't be healed? C'mon now.

That's how you know the game was made in the 90/00's. Although the fact that your character has an option to say "Fuck off, I don't wanna have sex with a virgin, that's lame" reminds you it was still made in the West.

I loved Kingmaker, but I don't know if I'll ever forget them literally pulling the plot over to include a scene that has no purpose to any character, any story, any ongoing plot, any existing theme and exists *only* to tell you that the cloistered, puritanical and extremely reserved Paladin chick fucked some random guy once for no reason, and thus isn't a virgin.

Western game Devs, man.

I almost talked about Aerie and her pregnancy with a coworker while at work. BG3 had just came out and we were talking about BG2 which I had played and he didn't. I stopped myself, but the residual shame has bothered me for a couple years now.
>>
>>721635896
I may be wrong but back in AD&D2e, which BG2 and the setting is based on, the only real spell which could do it was Regenerate which given how long it'd been since her wings were clipped and they obviously weren't present to be held in place then the spell just has a pretty good chance of outright killing her.
Resurrection, the only way to bring elves back from the dead, also had a way bigger cost since it drained 3 years of the casters life. Wish would also work but that one ages withe caster by 5 years and physically taxes the shit out the caster on top of that.

In BG2, that's a maybe. But in ToB you and Aeirie are Epic Level, casting proper Wish, True Restoration, Summon Deva, Mass Raise Dead and all that other jazz. Growing some wings back shouldn't be a big issue, even without Wish, and if you truly can't, then well, you've got Wish.

They never put in things like aging costs for Wish, otherwise we wouldn't be using Haste as much as we did.

Arue is literally being looked after by Desna. She's gonna have either human or Aasimar babies, at worst they'd be Tieflings. There's no issue.
>>
>>721637638

The end stage of the romance in SoA had it be that Aerie found something greater than flying- you. She's not thinking about her wings as much as she's thinking about being with you.

That's right. At the time, I thought that girls like Aerie would be more commonplace in future RPGs because every man is going to be happy with a girl they can actually save. Little did we know, eh? I blame the Jews.

Just pointing out that back in BG2's time loss of limb and life in D&D were still pretty serious and casual restoring of lost limbs and resurrections weren't a thing like they are now.
Obviously they made some concession for gameplay otherwise your healer would age themselves to death if you were shit at the game but setting wise at the time they were far more limited in what they could have done and everything they could have was not without cost.

>>
>>721635896

She stopped thinking about her wings by the time she got access to magic to restore them. I think she implied that the loss of her wings lead to her meeting Gorion's Ward.

What really warmed me up to Aerie was some of the bigger suits in Beamdog making statements about how they hated Aerie for pervading the "Damsel in distress" archetype and made it sound like she had something the ones bitching did not. I want to say the name of the person was Amber Scott, but I might be mixing that up with another. I was being a contrarian, but it still gave me a newfound appreciation of Aerie.

Plus, she wasn't in BG3 so she remained uncorrupted by the faggotry permeating it.
>>
>>721639168
All three romance options in BG2 are damsels is in distress
>>
>>721639278

And that's a good thing. It means they'll actually love their man. Somehow, even Viconia, despite her body count, still managed to pair bond with you.
>>
>>721639168
It really is impressive how they fucked up every returning character.
Minsc at least has a reason, even if it's a shit one, as to why he's still around and level drained.
But Jaheria, Virconia Edwin maybe and Sarevok should by rights still all be juiced up destroyers and Sarevok shouldn't be doing what he's doing anyway since ToB makes it 100% clear and in no way ambiguous that he's lost the divine spark and is no longer a bhaalspawn.
>>
>>721637403
>Demons are spawned from qlippoth
No, that was just the first demon, the rest of the demons were born the exact same way others outsiders are born, by having a bunch of petitioners fuse each other until they turn into a demon
>And I'm supposed to accept that her babies are going to be normal? On D&D? no. fuck no
Literally why wouldn't they? Even if she was still a succubus, that would make her children half succubi. You meet several cambions during the game (their demonic parent being an incubus) and there's nothing wrong with them besides being evil assholes
>>
>>721640382

A lot of that is WotC's retconning and meddling, since it follows from the "canon" of Abdel Adrian, the Bhaalspawn nobody likes. My man Sarevok was really done dirty.

Also a fun fact, Sarevok's ToB portrait is based on how his voice actor looks in real life. Sarevok's character is based on The Kurgan from Highlander, because the original BG Trilogy's story (With the third being Throne of Bhaal) is basically just D&D Highlander.
>>
