Persona 5 and Clair Obscur prove that westerners are open minded to turn based RPGs, so why don't they play Dragon Quest?
>>

i don't think i'll ever buy another turn based rpg
the combat isn't fun, strategic or stratifying and the stories are never worth spending hours grinding basic mobs

>Turbo Ass 5 and Giga Meme Shit prove that westerners are open minded to turn based RPGs, so why don't they play Fucking Garbage?
I would love to see the demographic breakdown of
>(((westerners)))
that are playing these embarrassingly terrible gayms
>>
RPG fans do. People who play your examples are simply more fans of the narratives in those games. DQ narratives aren't really as easy to impress.

I'm going to buy the remake of VII, what more do you want?
>>
>>721639730
Buy 11, 1-3 on Switch eshop, HD-2D versions of 1-3, Builders, Monsters, Heroes, and Treasures.

Persona is too recognizable and E33 was FotM
DQ is too niche, and I like it that way. But they still to censored and bodytyped it for no particular reason.
Maybe they though the same as the palworld devs
>hey, dumb westerners like bodytypes and feel too ashamed to buy games with characters showing too much skin
thinking that would help the sales and did fuckall. Horii already knows it's bullshit, so you have SquareEnix to thank for that.
People who have never played DQ would've give the remasters a chance if it wasn't for the westernification it suffered
>>
>>721640381
sorry anon but the truth is westerners barely care about DQ at all. DQ11 did well enough that they're going to continue localizing some other titles, but far less people will care about those compared to a mainline release. The censorship probably scared off such a minuscule amount of sales that SE didn't even notice. I'm not saying that the objections of hardcore western fans don't matter, but they barely register to SE execs compared to if there was some real pushback in Japan.
>>
>>721641879
Yeah, that's the problem, westerners barely care about DQ, and the censorship ended up killing any forseeable future chance of changing that.
Either way, it sucks, and I don't think Japan has learned their lesson yet?

dragon quest is baby's first jrpg. riddled with "but thou must"s handholding your every move. I dropped XI when I got to the boat village with the gay guy. couldn't stand it.
>>
Anime is cringe. That is all there is to it. Dragon Quest in particular gets all its criticism from the west entirely because it looks like Dragon Ball Z.
Persona is the only series that gets a pass and that's mostly because of the dating sim elements with young girls.
>>
Dragon Quest is fucking soulless. Clair Obscure has an awesome soundtrack, top notch voice acting and a compelling plot. Persona has flashy visuals, also a great soundtrack and waifus you can romance. DQ games have none of that, except DQ5.
>>
>>721642697
clair obscure has a good soundtrack, but there's nothing on that game that can beat this

I think that DQ has a MASSIVE nostalgic appeal for them that we just don't share. Sure there were some dads who played Dragon warrior back in the day and the like, but we never went through a true DQ craze like they did. When was the last time businesses had to coordinate around not having staff on hand because all the salarymen are taking the day off to play the new DQ?

It's a decent series with a lot of charm but changing the outfits back and going with more literal translations won't really change the trajectory of the series as far as how many sales it would get in the west. SE is flailing trying to figure out why and their localizers have landed on "maybe it's just too Japanese" but Japanese media has succeeded in western markets for seemingly completely random reasons. They just can't figure it out and honestly I hope they stop trying to. There has been some flattening and standardization of CERO ratings as far as anything suggestive goes and that certainly plays a big factor, at least in my opinion.

Its not bad but its a single jingle that loops after the 1 and a half minute mark while E33 has literally opera like soundtrack.
>>
>>721643791
I this case, less is more
>>
Westerners need some kind of hook or gimmick to stomach turn based JRPGs
But DQ is probably the most meat and potatoes JRPG of all
>>
>>721640092
If you run away from every encounter what's the point of playing
>>
>>721644353
I mean, Pokemon which is the third best selling vg franchise is a turn based game
>>
>>721638315
None of these games have good gameplay or any depth to them. But DQ also doesn't have good presentation.
>>
>>721644704
as that poster said, it has a gimmick which is really how most people define the game. Or at least they used to. That being the monster collection mechanic. That, and a successful card game that helped kick off the craze along with the Anime.
>>
>>721642405
That doesn't make sense because dating sims aren't popular in the west
