People make out the killing of the EU to be a bigger deal than it actually was. A fraction of a fraction of a percent gave a shit about star wars EU to begin with, and even the ones that do only like some of it. They shouldn't have done it but it is very far from the bigger problems with didney star wars and why the brand is close to dead now.The reason why star wars died is because they couldn't get anyone to direct them other than Abrams, who pretty explicitly just wanted to role play being Lucas in 1977, and followed it up with le deconstruction man. Keep in mind the normal star wars fan was more than happy with JJ's slop even after they realized it was just ANH 2.0, and only started changing their tune after TLJ when suddenly we're 2/3rds of the way through the trilogy and it had less than nothing going for it.
