I just beat the "hardest" platform challenge in the game, the mushroom climb above granny.

It was hyped up as super hard but it really wasn't for me. I've struggled so much with many of the bosses but that platforming only took me a few times, I didn't even fail once I finally got to the pogo section which I found very easy.

I can't even kill the second Trobbio for example, I gave up trying with him. Those balls he throws out that shoot straight lasers and then he goes right into the tornado for 2 masks that you have to jump over or dodge under somehow is a nightmare especially when he's throwing multiple balls at you in a row and you can't even find a way to get in position to hit him.
I wish more of the bosses were like the electric one in that area in kharak sands, not just a boss that is spazzing around teleporting constantly, but something more like a puzzle boss where it's pretty stationary but throwing attacks at you that you have to dodge so you don't have to worry about bullshit contact damage.

The fight becomes 5x easier once you realize you can pogo thru 90% of her moveset.
Got parried? Just jump and pogo.
Tentacle dash? Jump and pogo

The later phases are the same, just with more shit on the screen.
Stay high, and just wait for the diagonal downward slash, her straight triple slash, or the tentacle attacks to punish her.
You'll get hit more often if you try to force punish windows. Just be patient.

that tediousness is the reason I used guides. I spent a whole hour trying to find a single flea. the one you go through the hidden path in the fair fields stag station. I hit every single wall in every room. I was looking around the craw lake for secret paths I was so desperate. this game's biggest flaw for me was stuff like this, things hidden so well that it didnt feel fair.
you know how when you find a spot you need double jump for, but you dont have double jump yet, you know to make a note of it, to come back for that thing later? half of the silk soar spots were just, not like that. you'd NEVER have known there was a path in that spot for an ability you didn't have yet. and even when you got the ability how would you have known? Look at this shit. How would you know there was a path through the ceiling here?

The relationship or lack thereof between difficulty and frustration is quite interesting. Trobbio 2 is kicking my ass. But it's not at all unpleasant. Meanwhile something like the unravelled that was easier pissed me off.
>>
>>721773212
>I spent a whole hour trying to find a single flea. the one you go through the hidden path in the fair fields stag station.
I spent basically 2 weeks on that, from the start that I bought it to see where it is, to just getting it after fucking beating Lost Lace. I kept checking each time I went into far fields. When I finally unlocked the other part of Far Fields in Act 3, I was so happy I'd unlock it, but nope still not. I checked as you every wall, from every side. Then, after fully giving up on it not being on the new side of Far Fields, I somehow thought I'd need to open the door somewhere else on the map. That I'd be fucked that the creature there stopped banging which happened in act 3.
But, I figured that couldn't be it, no way I'd be locked out of fleas. So I looked again at the map, theorizing what way to do it. I figured it must use wind, the gimmick of the area, checked the bell beast and laughed...

>Look at this shit. How would you know there was a path through the ceiling here?
That one was quite fine, since the bestiary basically tells you which area you're missing places, and Karak is quite small, quite easy to just recheck.
The other part of missing stuff isn't looking for visual cues (here they're annoying, you don't see any wall and no black plants, but still hard) but you gotta open the map as well, and really think where could be an area that has something. The area for the parkour getting there never felt justified for the reward, so it made sense checking there for me. Made much more sense than trying to find some spools...

But again, I'm somebody who plays game like Noita guideless, am kinda biased.
>>

I FUCKING DID IT YOU GUYS HOLY SHIT. I've been at Lost Lace all fucking day and I finally did it. Spamming cogflies was a mistake from the start, all they did was fuck up phase 3 with so much visual noise I couldn't react to anything. After practicing the last phase with no cogflies I finally understood it was just the first phase except faster and it all clicked.

I just nailed her with the hunters crest nail for 90% of the fight. Once I was balls deep into the final phase and started to lose I spammed 4 cogflies and they killed her. It was a complete shock since I've been that far into her fight numerous times. I must have been like three hits away from killing her so many times. Finished with one mask left. I'm leaning more into the Weavers since you're explicitly told Weavers by nature have an urge to dominate and rule over other bugs, and Herrah/Hornet (and First Sinner maybe?) are outliers. However since GMS made them, it could be argued those traits come from her herself, so she would be just as bad, but that's pure speculation. Maybe she's kindhearted but ended up making a bunch of cunts by accident.
>>
>>721774608
Yeah same, I started saving my cogflies until the final phase and just spamming all of them at that point. All four phases are the same basic attacks, but with more and more extra bullshit thrown at you each time.
>>
I can't tell whether I like SS or HK better, SS has far superior movement, platforming, and combat and I think if I went back to HK I'd do doubt think it's an inferior product, but HK feels like a more cohesive experience with a better thought out world.

That seems to be the general consensus. Hollow Knight stands better as a gestalt work while Silksong is better in some of its minutiae and core elements.
I think Silksong just narratively doesn't work that well. Act 1 is good but the story in Act 2 feels extremely short, especially relative to the immense amount of side content. And Act 3 is a fun twist and callback to the first game but it doesn't seem to fit in well with the first two.
The game is called Silk"song" and Hornet gets the Needolin and the Citadel has this "ruled by musician engineers" thing going on yet none of it seems to matter. The music motif fell flat IMO. It's weird and doesn't work.

King's Soul does nothing from a lore perspective except allow the Knight to visit the abyss. It is not required for replacing the hollow knight nor does it aid in that process. It's ONLY useful, narratively, as a stepping stone to a vessel self actualizing and destroying the radiance. The White Lady knew to give her half but clearly did not understand why. I think conceptually the idea of SS being this pilgramage to the top is really interesting and contrasts HK well, but while the zones are individually visually appealing and memorable there's never really any moment where you think "so that's how the world works" that makes the journey feel believable. Agree with Act 2 being short, you can blitz it very quickly without even sniffing the mountain of side content, so it ends up feeling weird when you're finally done and decide that you're going to fight GMS now after fucking around for 20 hours.

Also I met the mantis nigga for the first time after freeing him, do I have to do something with him or is that for later

Pale King had no access to the dream nail so he couldn't have planned anything involving it. He was powerless against dream mumbo jumbo to begin with hence the whole struggle to deal with the infection. That the player vessel just happened upon an insane moth that just gave the dream nail away is the biggest deus ex machina bullshit the game pulls on you, narratively.

>>721776806
I agree that there’s less of a logic to how the zones connect and how they function. Like in hollow knight, all the damp and overgrown areas are connected. In silksong there’s less of a logic. Like if you look at the left side of the map, at the top you have mount Faye, which is a wet place with icy lakes. Below that is the sands of Karak, which are dry, and then the blasted steps, which are dry, and then the wormways, which are dry, until you are at the bottom of the map at moss home, which returns to being damp. They should’ve included citadel water pumps in the background or something if they wanted to imply that the citadel is the reason the place is dry.
>>

>>
>>721776937
I think the pale king came to hallownest in order to create the hollow knight and train him to deal with the lifeblood situation by having him practice with the radiance.
>>
>>721776813
I'd recommend lowering the resolution more than the bitrate with crf. And when using VP9 make sure to enable two-pass encoding. Just try more to reduce the blockiness.

>>721776889
Cool that ya didn't use tools to cheese, but I feel you didn't bother to actually learn the moveset, and you really not pogoing on her enough, and just kinda spammed wanderer face hits with extra damage to make up for that. Like, both of her parries can be jumped into pogoed if done well (cool idea to parry yourself, but in practice didn't really work and a waste of silk), and whenever you use Hook you should lead that again into more pogoing than just running away.
Good first clear though, but since you can retry it might as well try learning how to deal with all of laces attacks.

I thought the whole point was that The Hollow Knight failed because he was a good dad and that made THK develop a mind, thus making containment only temporary. While the playable Knight is a perfectly void entity and thus able to contain the Radiance in the first 2 bad endings, but alas not a real solution since the kingdom would just remain forever in stasis, no better than dead.

The Knight is not mindless either as proven by the True ending and Godhome, so it would eventually fail too

I don't know how you managed to get hit so much and still win. Better than my fight where I just stayed in her face with fleajuice and barely dodged at all. I kept waiting for you to use the rings and you only used them once. I find it impressive you can make use of the longer double heal charm, I get hit enough when healing as it is.

Also damn Carmelita's theme is a banger. It's much nicer to listen to when you're not clenching your ass the entire time trying not to die.

Can I lower the resolution in mpv or would I have to reexport the file from steam? It's already at 720
I feel like I did learn the moveset quite well, I had a run before that which was very close to "perfect" in terms of how it looked and felt. Lots of agression and pogoing, I actually managed to parry her parry like 3 times which felt really neat, but I got got by the fourth phase and forgot to clip it as I was just focused on beating her. Unfortunate that the actual clear was on a very sloppy run. I will freely admit that my playstyle devolved into wanderer facetanking alot of the time lol

>>721777414
I know I dont need to, again, I'm just fucking around right now to see for myself what things do

I will probably eventually get into webm for retards or maybe pure ffmpeg, but I mostly use mpv to watch anime and my primary aim is to just find small clips here and there of cute anime girls doing cute anime things, which many people on /a/ have said the mpv plugin is more than enough for when you deal with 5-10 second clips or whatever

Again dunno the specifics with mpv since nobody usually uses that, use webm for retards and you can freely change resolution, trim to the exact frame, keep reencoding it with different settings, and lots of other stuff.
720 is still very big for a longer vid unless you're fine with a big ass filesize. I'd say for a game like this even 500p would look good with a proper enough bitrate, since silksong is quite clear in its bosses what attacks are. I recommend maybe not now but getting used to trying new resolutions and bitrate combinations, you get a knack for it after a while

Man I made it through 90% of the game, I've spent over 80 hours on just one playthrough so far and I'm at the end with gathering the hearts.

This coral tower, man the difficulty has already been extremely hard so far with most of the game, but it feels like just when you think it can't get harder, there's another spike in difficulty. Having a gauntlet of enemies in multiple arenas, followed by a decent challenge of a boss fight, and if I die then I have to restart the entire 10+ minute fight just to get to the boss is a fucking nightmare.
I even hate just having to play the instrument to get into the dream in the first place.

idk how anyone can even do steelsoul mode, or a <5 hour speedrun. I mean if it's just to get to granny and kill her, fine. She's actually not that hard but the bosses before her are. I'm never going to get 100% of the achievements in this game, it's filtering me hard just like Cuphead did. I was never able to get all the achievements for that game either.

But at this point, I just want to finish the fucking story. I really wish they left the difficulty for speedrun shit, not just finishing the damn game 100%. I just want to get it over with and from what I've seen the final boss lace 3 is even harder than any of the shit I've already done so far and I'm not looking forward to it.

Lost Lace is definitely the hardest thing in the game, but it's a different kind of difficult. You can't try to force it. You have to just replay her over and over until you learn her moveset and how to counter it with your setup of choice. DO NOT try to take shortcuts you'll just take longer to beat her.
>>
>>721778531
>idk how anyone can even do steelsoul mode, or a <5 hour speedrun.
If you only do the mandatory content and know where it is, the game is relatively short.

I actually found the coral tower quite easy, the only rooms that gave me actual trouble where the first two because I had no clue what those enemies did. Once you learn that they can be easily countered by just pogoing off them you can beat the 3rd and 4th room in no time. Also, there's an unlockable shortcut before the 4th room, try hitting the environment.
Coral Tower boss I actually beat on the first try, his patterns are really easily and every attack is telegraphed, and you can even poggo off the spikes as well.
Also yes, Lost Lace IS probably the hardest fight in the game, it took me like 3 hours to beat it. Just try not to panic.

It IS a bit of a dissonance that Hornet goes to play with the fleas while the world is ending. Unlike Act 1 and Act 2, Act 3 does have a narrative time limit, so it feels wrong to do any side stuff. Maybe there should have been an epilogue act where you do all the side stuff, but I guess quite a bit of it does hinge on "world is ending, let's fight".

She's immortal (or very long lived) so having her brother to keep her company though the ages would be a nice ending.
>>
>>721779145
Beyond video game contrivance, I justify it in much the same way as how the transition from act 2 to act 3 requires Hornet be invested in the world and quite literally make a home there. The fleas' philosophy to make merry and see what happens when it happens is not illegitimate, and to partake of it can be equal parts foolhardy and enlightening. Being reminded of what you're trying to save is not a waste of time.

I don't get the complaining about Beastfly 2
1 I get, if you run into it pretty early before you've figured out how combat works or got any decent tools and don't notice it will kill its own ads if you let it it seems like absolute bullshit
But by the time you get to the second fight you have way more shit and should already know how basic the boss's actual moveset is and how to deal with it, the only real difference is the breaking floor which is a small new angle to learn, but otherwise you're way better equipped to just nuke the ads as soon as they spawn and if you can do that the actual boss has literally two attacks and you avoid both of them by just stepping/hopping out of the way and smacking him as he goes by.

Final boss in hollow knight 3 is an ancient lifeblood mutated Wyrm. aka grandpa
>>
>Hornet jumps into abyss juice
>bunch of tentacles damage you
>Hornet gets magic flower
>now can swim into the abyss juice, tentacles do nothing
>do the cutscene where she jumps and dives into the abyss, nothing can damage her or get close
>get to the boss, she's spamming abyss stuff
>somehow now the abyss stuff is damaging Hornet despite her still having the flower
This is bullshit, you should take no damage in the final fight while Hornet laughs the whole time at how ineffective all the attacks are.

I think the void is a mass of uncontrollable uhhh void
Little Ghost can exert some control over it, but when he's not actively doing it, I think it just reverts back to the base instinct of hentai tentacle rape everything in sight

Great moment. I expected the last one to be hypercharged and furious but he was too depressed and broken.
Try leaving him alive long enough so that he does the attack where's he meant to join with his partner in the middle and he just slowly sinks back to ground, utterly beaten.

>But the the whole true ending of HK is that he unified the void, the thoughtless formless mass now was him, his mind is the void now, then Embrace the Void shows he's now able to use all that void at his disposal, not that he got taken over by some void beast.
He seems to be able to exert control over the void but the void seems to be an ever present force that exists with or without him. A king never has control over his subjects that he ignores.
As for what being master of the void really means who knows, really it's a power you can't even use unless you want the entire world consumed.

>>
>>721783470
She wasn't even that hard though, you just pogo her all fight and when she does the dash that spawns void on the ground you disengage for the second dash since she may jump, but then if you shenshe did a 3rd dash or charges void tentacles you go for another pogo, 2nd phase is the just poking as she starts void attacks, hardly can force a pogo on melee attacks, takes a long time so even in an honest fight it's mostly running away.

Some of the Dream Bosses in HK are absolute ass (Marmu) but I do like how they can change dramatically just by altering the terrain.
The Beastflies in SS are a great example of what I want to see more of. Just little light things here and there to chill the breakneck intensity of some of the real bosses. And I think being able to change the light bosses intensity by a arena change really can go a long way.
