A yearly tourney thats been free to watch for a decade is now pay walled. You can thank japan for enabling this behavior.
>>
people who watch esports garbage aren't human so they should be rinsed
>>
Thank you Crapcom, very cool.
>>
>>721918453
To be fair it makes sense financially, if esports are supposed to ever make money and be a serious thing then the viewers need to pay money like regular sports viewers do. That being said good luck trying to get the poverty ass FGC of all communities to spend money on something like this.
>>
the ghost of $8.95 haunts us
>>
They'd have to pay me to watch fireball drive rush.
>>
>>721920467
>if esports are supposed to ever make money and be a serious thing then the viewers need to pay money
Loud slurping sounds detected. This is why they can get away with it, because normalfags like this tranny fucker exist.
>>
never forget capcom.sys
>>
>>721920805
I don't care for SF6 and I'm certainly not watching or paying for this. I'm just stating the economic truth that esports makes no sense currently. There is just no business model in free twitch/youtube streams with little other monetization.
>>
>>721921495
Its a giant ad, people watch these events, get hyped and go out to buy the game and all the DLC, play for a week, then drop it til next event, then do it all over again. Now Capcom wants to make you pay for the ad on top of everything else.
>>
>>721918453
Wouldn't this mean they'd have to be incredibly strict about restreams? I thought a big part of the FGC was watching your favorite retard react to the big tournaments (if they didn't make it in).
I don't see this working for them but hey, best of luck scamming people.
>>
Why are fighting games so expensive
>>
>>721922083
Fighting games aren't popular so they need to fleece the few people who actually play them. This is Capcom realizing that more people watch their game than play it and are trying to profit off of those viewers. The viewership has exploded in Japan in the last few years and this is the result.
>>
WTF, when I saw the thread I was thinking 10$ max, nobody is going to pay 40$ for this
>>
>>721922368
I can see japan oshi culture being a net negative for everyone else. Those people have no problem paying pigging. Pay per view will be accepted by them and only them.
>>
I feel like this happened with Japan before
>>
>>721921759
Except you have a prize pool to fund, venue expenses to pay, and the reality that just like every other sport in existence, more people watch than they do play. There's nothing wrong with looking for ways to increase the prize pool and the quality of the events, because further investment into both drives better competition. The problem in this case is that Capcom is huffing fucking fumes and expecting people to pay $25-$40 bucks to watch Street Fighter when not even bigger esports like League or DotA charge that much for events.
>>
they can't be serious
>>
>>721924884
Japan has always paid to watch fighting game tournaments, this isn't new for them. It's new for the west.
>>
>>721918453
If they were going to try this shit, it would have made more sense to dip their feet in the pool with EVO. But like Netflix, the idea of taking your own toys home and over charging is too tempting.
>>
>>721918453
Good luck greedy fucks.
>>
>>721918453
Bring back thuggery, it is the only way to save fighting games. Niggas shanking each other over money matches, fights breaking out because of trash talk, people who live on Discord too intimidated to hang around a bunch of hood niggas and barrio niggas and viet boat niggas.

You have to buy all of the DLC in modern FGs since otherwise you can't lab the character. Devs know this so they can charge whatever they want and players will still buy it. Is this better or worse than the previous model of constant rereleases? I don't know.
>>
I'll buy a t-shirt with Luke pointing at people and Jamie choking on his drink
I'm not buying a ticket for an event that is practically the same price as the video game.
Especially when I don't know where the money is going.
>>
>>721921759
The giant ad for SF6 already served its purpose in the first 2 years
They actually tested PPV with Japanese SFL Finals last year, and apparently people were willing to pay for it
That's why they're pushing this for CC too
In the end the reason they can do this is because there's no competition in the fighting game scene
MAYBE if either 2XKO or Tokon able to gain momentum they will make it free again
>>
>>721926167
It's not good, but it's still better because in the previous model if you were on Game Revision 1 and Game Revision 2 released, you basically lost online functionality since the majority of the player base would move to Game Revision 2. In this new system, you could stick with Game Revision 1 and still play it like you always have, even if the devs were on Game Revision 10, because your Game Revision 1 copy would auto update itself to be able to play with any future Game Revision release.
>>
imagine if they run ads on it
>>
>>721918453
people who watch sf deserve worse honestly
>>
>>721928584
they put in game ads in SFV so they'll probably do it again

Labbing is cancerous
>>

It might work for Starcraft in South Korea but not for fucking Street Fighter lmam
>>
>>721920467
>if esports are supposed to ever make money
Corporate esports never supposed to make any money, it was supposed to be alternate strategy to advertisement
Community esport(lan events of the past) were pure for fun playing vidya and also had no plans to ever make money
>>
last time I paid to watch something was GSL during the SC2 era and I don't regret it

And how is that a bad thing? Esports is stuck at mid level investment for almost 20 years because people watching refuse to pay a dime for the product, there's a reason why NFL, NBA and FIFA is banking billions monthly meanwhile esports is getting smaller and smaller.
>>
>>721929341
because "voting with your wallet" actually works there
>>
>$40 to watch people get throw looped
>>
>>721929782
I miss when people mocked fps bros and their push for esports to be a thing. If it wasn't for Korea's love for starcraft, esports would still be considered a joke.
>>
>>721929412
You're gonna have to practice if you want to get good.

>>

Play the game, labbing is part of the autism that has ruined the genre.
>>
>>721933023
>play the game
>NOT THAT WAY
>>
>>721930787
Yeah, I've seen this episode before. I don't know how many other companies get away with this sort of aggressive business.
>>
>>721933305
Yes, people used to figure this shit out through actually playing the game. Labbing is for faggot autists who need to know every scenario and how to counterplay it before jumping online so their flowchart offense and setplay bullshit is always on point. Training modes should be removed entirely.
>>
>>721933576
You're kind of a bitch.
>>
>>721933576
>Training modes should be removed entirely.
WHAT DO YOU THINK THEY'RE TRAINING FOR RETARD
>>
>>721933576
yeah, people should be having to play online to learn desu
>>
>>721918453
lol this garbage isn't worth 40$ the fuck? so we can watch trannies and faggots play fighting games or furry niggers? PASS
>>
>>721929489
Broodwar works as a E-Sport
SF6 is low quality zoomslop, it's SC2 all over again
>>
>>721929935
Works so well that their industry is primarily live service and gacha games great job japan.
>>
>>721920467
>if esports are supposed to ever make money
You just KNOW this $8.95 PPV will have thousands of Ads on it. Just like Evo (which will probably follow Capcom, given McPedo was a Capkek until Pokeymans took it over).

Nobody ain't going to pay that shit unless it's Netflix, dude.
>>
i pretty much completely stopped playing fighting games and engaging with the fgc because of all the trannies and furries its faggot central and i just can't stomach it anymore, completely ruined guilty gear, mortal kombat, and street fighter, tekken isn't as bad but its still pretty fucking bad its just men in dresses or fucking furries in their faggot suits and i just can't anymore.
>>
>>721934967
>Nobody ain't going to pay that shit unless it's Netflix, dude.
Japs already did for the SFL Finals last season (this year)
That's what enables them to do this
>>
>>721929412
Fighting games in general are cancerous. Genre that should've died in the mid-00's when arcades finally did.
>>
>>721935229
Yes, and that's Japan without ads IIRC.

This shit is like low-priced ad-tiers from Netflix, Hulu, et. al. streaming services for the poors. Nobody that is watching the streams is going to pay $20-40 for an ad experience. Be serious now.
>>
>>721918453
>You can thank japan for enabling this behavior.
The Capcom Cup is run by Capcom US.
>>
>>721935667
in japan, they already did paid streaming for capcom cup. Its clearly japans influence
>>
>>721933764
The bitch is the guy who has to spend a week treating a fighting game like it's chess that needs to be "figured out" before playing so that they'll always know the optimal play in ever situation. Very Indian behavior, that.
>>
>>721936903
Just play against the NPCs if you're that worried about being outplayed. It's a video game.
>>
>>721918453
lol crapcom needs to go bankrupt already
>>
>>721937204
I'm not worrying about being outplayed. I don't like playing against computers and the entire fucking problem is the genre is now filled with autists who refuse to jump into the game without having first labbed out the most optimal playstyle. It's like the type of retard who plays an RPG with a guide to ensure that he always has the optimal outcome in every scenario and never misses the golden ending.
>>
I'm glad this only started when Street Fighter and fighting as a whole were already down the shitter. I remember having a blast watching SSF4AE and USF4 Capcom Cups, but those games were at least good
>>
>>721938206
You're trying way too hard to roleplay scrubquotes.
>>
>>721934882
yeah? what do you think "voting with your wallet" means?
>>
>>721938947
Just play the game. Are you too much of a bitch to do that? Just pick your character and play.
>>
>>721939858
Nigger you're the one who is scared shitless of people who practice. You really think people need an entire week to get good at a character? A couple hours at most to learn BnBs.
>>
>>721940051
I'm not scared, I find them annoying because the entire genre has warped itself around to cater to these mongoloids which ends up in shitty games like City of the Wolves.
>>
>>721929782
Yeah dude this game with 8,000 concurrent players is what is going to make eatsports a viable business, you fucking moron, you absolute idiot.

Get good or shut the fuck up.
>>
>>721938947
NTA but he's not wrong. The first thing you see players coming in talking about is almost always bullshit about training.
This absurdist "lab first maybe have fun later" shit is what the FGC itself has created and fostered. People don't just jump in and have fun, and that's why the genre is such garbage nowadays(I say nowadays, but really, it's been shit since GGX pioneered characters as functions before it was a term.)
>>
>>721940918
It's not that absurd to want to play well and learn how a character functions and their strengths+weaknesses.
It's ridiculous to think that these types are ruining YOUR experience by playing how THEY want.
If you want that week 1 to play however you want and learn through the game alone, go for it. Crying about others labbing is sad.
