This is literally impossible at the level your first entering the castle!

How were you supposed to know to cast reflect on it in the 1st place?

Now that you mention it, I have to wonder if Carbuncle being in that castle is supposed to help you with fights like that one

Probably because the previous FF games had these enemies. And they're much worse in FF4. And if you had played the Japanese version of FF4, you'd know to cast reflect the second you see either of them.

But also because FF has no difficulty. Their difficulty is just trial and error. Get OHKOd, learn the enemy pattern, reload and beat it easily. Repeat for every "hard" enemy in the game.

That's the fight I just say fuck it and make my entire party and give them the ability to fight like Monks can. The first three forms are a cakewalk and then the last form is just pounding it into a pulp.

To anyone playing Final Fantasy V, breaking rods is probably THE MOST IMPORTANT thing you need to learn to do. You go into your items as a Black Mage, select the rod, then equip it so the character then breaks it on a boss and does a guaranteed 2000+ damage. It's the easiest way to beat the fire boss in the Karnak ship, as well as getting past the floating Ronka Ruins cannon guns and the main cannon. World 2's boss fights are pretty trivial, so just make sure you buy enough rods to use against Exdeath, ten plus attacks from your other party members should be enough.

1 is simple and classic
2 changed the leveling mechanics too much, but tried to give it a story and characters.
3 shifted back to 1's leveling, and has a middling story with no actual characters, and a half-baked Job system.
4 is where it found it's groove. Characters with different classes, but only one of the several versions lets you mix and match. Story was decent.
5 has the most fun gameplay with the fully realized job system. You can mix and match what jobs your party has, and what abilities your job has, like tossing Black Magic onto a Samurai.

Not him, but they had the retarded idea to limit equipment-as-item usage to only classes that can use them as equipment, which is a retarded ass lock out to add in. Even worse because there's less of them to go around and the ones that do exist ain't all that, even compared to FF1. Weird coincidence that both FF3 and Dragon Quest 3 both did this restriction at #3, only to undo it later on.
>>
>>722048940
A lot of other FF games have siumilar issues. If they even allow you to use equipment as items. A lot of them just forget it exists. A lot of other games also have worse restrictions than FF3 when it comes to equipping items. FF9 is even more restrictive when you literally need to learn skills from the equipment.

Good, it still gives some degree of upgrading. Still better than getting assraped by a horse because I walked too far.

Sounds like you're upset because you forgot to buy equipment once. Instead of learning your lesson you now demand the game to be changed.
You're a girl.

I'm sucker for BluMage so need to have that. I also like pure mage jobs, so Black Mage with White Mag or vice versa. The main physical would have MagicSword and be knight, mag knight, ninja an samurai. The last character odd jobs Thief, Trainer and Chemist in the end getting 4 shot from archer

I didn't have a problem with it.
I was just disappointed you can't learn Atomic Ray.

Hah nobody tell em it's like pulling teeth they completely changed absolutely everything around the battle system & nurtures them into oblivion rendering any challenges from the GBA or original SNES versions m8

They sure do look & sound nice though

I want an assjob from ninja faris' leotard...

Why can't the Beastmaster let you capture a monster and then keep it like a pet? Can't the damage scale with you so you can use it like a summon, but different?
Why do so many of the classes rely on random chance?

>Why do so many of the classes rely on random chance?
I don't know why they just didn't give more classes their own movesets and just have the moveset be equippable. Monk really needed this.

5 encourages and rewards you for changing your Job regularly.
3 gives you no reason to do it more than once.

Everyone set to freelancer. With two mages and two melee fighters.
It hardly matters. Just have one person be Ninja and throw like 4 knives at Exdeath and he dies.
Like, why couldn't Geomancer have a spell list for each area? Why couldn't the Ranger pick which Animal you summon? It just makes these classes useless that you can't.
>>
>>722058815
Why knives? Is it a stat overflow glitch?
>>
>>722058837
Someone explain why Aqua Breath does 9000+ damage and Leviathan does less than half against monsters weak to water
>>
>>722058837
Geomancer spell list changing based on the location would be pretty cool yeah. Animal definitely needed a list and rebalancing. There's one animal that's like a megalixir, so obviously that one would need to get nerfed.
>>
>>722058949
Aqua Breath isn't actually water element in FF5 (I think not even in Pixel Remaster). It merely does extra damage to monsters that are within desert battle areas.
>>
if ff17 is actionslop the japanse government has to deport square board members to somalia

>>
>>722058837
I understand why they made geomancers skills tied to the environment. But it makes them useless most of the time. Especially since often the enemies in that area are strong or immune against the skill you get in that area. Just seems like something they would have figured out easily with playtesting. But FF as a series seems to be allergic to playtesting.

Git gud.
>>
>>722057586
It doesn't really matter in the end everyone is a mime or freelancer, it's why I'll take 3 over 5, 5 end game sucks.
>>
>>722060532
>I'm retarded and don't have the patience to build a character to my play style
>>
>>722060680
What build? You have 2 slots or 1 if not freelancer where very quickly no class will out qualify your freelancers, the mid game is fun because you are encouraged to play around, the late game is about making everyone the same class.
>>
>>722057586
I kind of winged it playing V, and thought Ranger might be cool. Hot damn it sucked, what an awful job.
... but then you get Rapid Fire. And then you can later combine that with Dual Wield. And then I truly saw the potential of the mixed job system.

Otherwise I think I mostly just had a generic white mage, black mage and knight setup, like the previous games.
>>
>>722049989
I just did four monks in FF3, then switched someone to dark knight later before finally settling on sage/ninja. Get some levels and punch everything.

I agree with the previous poster though, FF3 is the worst of both worlds. FF1 locks you into your job choice which makes it very meaningful what you start as and influences the difficulty curves and spikes as you play. FF5 gives you a lot of room to experiment by not locking you to any particular path. I personally like FF1 the best, but FF5 is pretty good around the midgame where you've got some job growth with your characters that defines them, but not so much they all become blank slate pawns because everything's unlocked.
