Uncomfy Silksong Discussion Thread:
What's the total amount of rosaries you've lost so far, and how many deaths have occurred during your playthrough?
>>
How the fuck do you measure that? Anyway, I think I average 1 death per boss and I only lost my rosaries once, about 200.
>>
>>722014391
I lost rosaries one time, it was the little gauntlet to fix the save bench in sinner road. I was like pshaw this is easy I'll just run back and get them. I then proceeded to eat shit in the stupidest missed jump and then keep eating shit as I panicked.
>>
>>722015020
lol that's funny, but >>722014758 I find it hard to believe you both only lost rosaries once and so few
>>
>>722014391
I'm currently stuck against the boss in Bilewater. And the run back is so painful

Is he using Soul attacks? How?
>>
>>722015125
sorry, forgot to say that I'm at the end of act 2, though losing rosaries in this game feels hard because of how easy it is to recover them
>>
>>722015142
yes and you'll learn why after
>>
>>722015142
What an unbelievably uncomfy area
>>
I've probably died 600 times and I've my rosaralinies about 80 times. The boss I hate the most is the Unravelled. It's a good game, perhaps even a great game. The little details that inhabit the world are so soulful. The unique interactions. Real shame about the writing however.
>>
>>722014391
I lost ~800 recently but it was right after I bought the last relevant shop items left. At that point rosaries are just ammo for the cannon.
>>
>>722014391
>What's the total amount of rosaries you've lost so far
like 300 near the beginning when I went into that Hunter's march area.
>and how many deaths have occurred during your playthrough
1 or 2 per boss. except for karmelita who kicked my ass nonstop for over an hour.
>>
>>722014391
I akshually like that there's no death counter, I don't want my failures to be rubbed in my face
>>
>>722014391
I lost 3k rosaries in the abyss because my cocoon bugged and simply never spawned. I had my full silk spool and everything right after death, by rosaries simply vanished.
Didn't really care because I'd already bought everything by then.
>>
>>722015237
Imagine if groal could use howling wraiths

>>722016841
>try to pogo

>>
>>722014391
>total amount of rosaries lost
I don't think I ever failed to recover my rosaries
>total deaths
Fuckin hell if I know. Triple digits for sure. Not sure if I hit quadruple digits. Prolly about 300 as a low ballpark estimate.
Most of it retrying bosses.
>>
>>722014391
I lost 300 really early on and then immediately lost another 500. Then another 800 in act 2 while I had that fucking curse. it was all to fucking platforming.
>>
>>722015125
Why? I lost rosaries only once, and it was 2k
But I didn't have anything to buy anyway
>>
>bro i only died once per boss heh
me when i lie
>>
>>722014391
since this is the uncomfy discussion thread, may as well repost my greentext from a previous one

Hollow Knigth be like:
>balanced difficulty curve
>flexibility with playstyle options
>exploration reward with power ups and charms
>character progresion notcieable with every minor upgrade
>little to none grinding nor item farming
>the game rewards gitgud by encouraging the use of the game mechanics which mitigate difficulty
Silk Song be like:
>very small margin for error
>stiff customisation options
>unrewarding exploration where the only reward is often currency
>neglgigible character progression barely notcieable until late mid game
>the game demands gitgud by punishing the use of it's mechanics to mitigate difficulty

oh yeah but "skill issue" right?
i hate that everyone is larping as le hrrrdkrrrr steel soul speedruner yelling "gitgud" all the time while pretending that everbody loved the White Palace and Primal Vespids from the first game

How do you measure lost rosaries? Does it still count as lost if you recover your cocoon?
Also where the fuck are the simple keys I've been wanting to open the deep docks door forever jesus christ
>>

>with projectiles that deals double damage

I can't wait to finish this fucking game and be done with it.
>>

also she randomly negates your damage sometimes just because
>>
I lost rosaries constantly and often wouldn't even bother to go back to the cocoon.
If I urgently needed to buy something I would just grind them while muttering about "bad game design" and "broken economy"
>>
A couple hundred near the start. Used a silkworm to recover from sinner’s road because I was about to get ganked from three roaches. Still in early act 2 but I have two more recovery worms already so I shouldn’t lose more probably.

Field deaths I wanna say around 30? Pretty much all of them happened in the March. Bosses total I’m probably nearing 100 or just above that. Morrowing killed me more times than I want to admit followed by Widow. First tried the automaton and Beast actually killed me twice because I let too many adds spawn and panicked. Bell Beast took me three tries and bark bitch six. Burrowing red fuckers I think it was three tries or four. Clockwork guys are the boss I’m on now and they don’t seem too bad but I entered the fight at 1hp, recovered my silk, saved and quit and went to bed. No other bosses or mini bosses killed me except the starter ant elite guy before you get upgrades. I wanna say he killed me six times before I figured out how to not suck ass.
>>
>wake-up animation speed doubled
>playing Elegy of the Deep to enter a dream now activates the cutscene before costing 1 bar of silk instead of after
There, act 3 is like four times more fun now. You can just take these patch notes and implement them, Team Cherry. No need to pay or credit me.
>>
>>722017930
Oh wait I forgot about last judge. After I stopped being retarded and just focused on her wind up indicators I beat her easily but I had to learn that lesson after dying to the stupid charge attack smacking me point blank six times.

the worst part is i don't think i'll ever get fixed
people like me will be mocked with "le skill issue gitgud" mantra whenever we bring it up
but posterity will prove us right when the bulk of immitators and inspirations keep ripping off the original Hollow Knight system instead of Silk Song's which at times seems more focused on eroding my patience than testing my skills

>has the second highest healthpool of any boss in the game, just behind the final boss
>also blocks all damage unless you time your attack to while she's mid-animation (but not TOO mid-animation or else the attack clanks), futher inflating her effective health
And then even before the time-wasting gauntlet, just the run to her is just designed to deliberately waste your time for no reason by placing the entrance on the far side instead of the letting you walk through the left door

speaking of time wasting run backs
The flea caraban moves, first to Moorwing's arena, then to the entrance right before Last Judge
can you get them to move there BEFORE beating Last Judge or do you HAVE to beat him before they move
because that savespot they carry around with their caraban would absolutelly perfect to skip the second most annoying runback in the game

>>

Uhhh does this not seem like a weird thing to say? Aren't ants an actual sapient culture like all the other bugs?

It's like if Hornet said, "You seem to have a black problem" or in aussie context "You seem to have an aboriginal problem."

What did Team Cherry mean by this?
>>
Just beat Lost Lace, she was tough took me about 10 tries but I was expecting way worse based on the bitching I’ve seen. I really don’t understand some of the complaints I’ve seen here after fighting her desu
>>
>Citadel used to be stone and was a genuinely safehaven for worshippers
>Blasted Steps used to be gilded steps where faithful pilgrims would be protected by the guardians
So GMS was a benevolent ruler and the Weavers turned the Citadel into a way to milk pilgrims?
Weavers were also kind and the remaining Architects/Conductors turned it into a capitalist hellscape?

Stone tower had broad worship before GMS took over and made it all gold and about worshipping her?

I die like a complete retard in Silksong but that's mostly because I always tie up all my rosaries lmao

Multiple sources say the Weavers were a vicious, violent group. Probably because GMS convinced them they were better by default. Yes the Weavers and GMS were once good rulers. The Pale Lake lore tablet confirms when the kingdom was still peaceful.

Things went to complete total shit when the Weavers for some reason just went ballistic.
>>
>>722019254
i would have given up both spells and tools for a chance to get my hands on the nail extender or silk injector in act 1
pretty much every useful tool to mitigate the challenge in any meaningful way is locked past act 2
what i hate the most is the crest system
either binding useful moveset to gimmiky heal nerfs or binding useful gimmiks like silk harves to slow movesets
Reaper is only good for it's reach and pogo, but as far as harvesting silk (the crest very gimmick) is concerned, every single other crest does it better
if only "silk harvesting" was a charm or a tool you could equip in any other crest... like the shaman stone charm...

You can sort of get it when they're consistently referred to and revered as the "First Children". So that claimed birthright as GMS' kids was something their culture and the Weavers themselves valued HIGHLY.

We don't know when shit hit the fan.
Personally, I think it had to have been after the Weavers left. We've got a few indications that they were in tune with the natural world and would not have willingly went along with the tainting of it like we see in Bilewater and Sinner's Road. Then again if they were, they were elevated by Silk so she herself must have at one point been a decent ruler, or at least hands off enough her "daughters" could run things well and keep a balance between the Citadel and the natural world. Another indicator is that you can reach the shrine of Nyleth through the Citadel, so there must have been some respect there.

I assume the point is when the weavers rebelled, they basically civil warred with Silk, both of them manipulating the silk all around them, everywhere in Pharloom.

Eventually the weavers found a way to use the citadel to send her to sleep, but by then the kingdom was devestated, so some left.

Those leaving weakened the spell, so she slowly started waking up.
>>
>>722017805
Karmelita wasn’t that bad. At that point in the game you can have a fully upgraded nail, every tool, and 10 masks. If you still have trouble despite that, you’re probably doing something wrong.
Her sonic spin attack is AIDS though.
>>
>>722019918

>Her sonic spin attack is AIDS though.
Out of all the moves that killed me I dont think I died to that once. She hovers in the air for half a second before moving so its telegraphed pretty well. On the other hand, the move she does where she throws projectiles has the same, or at least similar, starting position/wind up animation as another move, and I kept getting caught out and being hit by her projectiles for no real reason.

The beast crest is for serious tryhards, you can phase through a lot of enemies with it and take no damage, all the while doing insane damage yourself. The charge jump attack also has increased height so you can even sequence break with it, further emphasizing the tryhard approach.

I was dashing in and out of her close range. Since she can deflect projectiles the best time to attack her was immediately after she has finished one of her moves, so if I dash over her projectiles I could get a couple hits in at a time. I only pogoed on her whenever she did a move that conjured spikes. I've heard she has a lot of HP compared to most other bosses but she went down surprisingly quickly with Wanderer and Flintslate.

I generally agree.
I love Silksong but at times it really felt like a slog. Doing all the side quests to unlock the third act was a slog. Enemies having too much HP was a slog. Enemies getting even more HP in act 3 was a slog. Gauntlets before boss fights were a slog. Having to get through boring phase 1’s just to practice crazy phase 2’s was a slog. Hopefully in the inevitable boss rush DLC they round off the shitty parts and just give us the good fights.

I genuinely like how Silksong's core design philosophy reflects its universe. It's meant to be a dark, dreary, unpleasant place full of strife and turmoil, and death is always just around the corner with the Abyss lurking. The game itself is tedious, annoying, and unfun to play, reflecting that. It makes you miserable, wastes your time, and makes you want to give up, which is how the residents of Pharloom feel. You aren't self-inserting into Hornet, you're self-inserting into a random merchant who retardedly set up his shop in some far-off corner of Hunter's March up an air jet behind three invisible walls and then died before anyone ever found him to buy his wares. It's almost like a deconstruction of good game design. I've never seen anything like it and it fascinates me.

Made it back. I went sifting through screenshots again but apparently I missed a few where the Weavers were mentioned. I remember this guy mentioning that he is just supposed to be a slave of the First Children but apparently I didn't clip that. The Twelfth Architect also mentions she's obligated to take the orders of The Weavers but maybe that was the caste hierarchy. Also Jubilana says the people in the library were hoarders even before The Haunting took root in Pharloom but again, benefit of the doubt, maybe she was just talking about the Keepers and no one else. So I'll amend my statement to that The Weavers, at the least, kept shitty friends

The egg one lets you get more grubs from the slave when you visit. The courier's rasher one is for the taste of pharloom and needed for some pale oil which increases needle damage. I'm almost certain The Weavers gave them the Threefold Melody. However I can't verify that they always hoarded it from regular bugs or if they turned themselves into godkings after The Weavers left and there was no one to check them. The Pontiff in the library is dead and Ballador seems regretful at his duty. But regular guys within the library seem to believe they, and only they, are allowed to read the scripture and know the songs of the choir.
>>
>>722017360
Yeah i am overall fine with the difficulty in itself if for the environments doing 2 damage (which they changed) and 2 contact damage from anything that isn't a fat fuck charging you.

Other than that my main gripe is that the game shouldn't be easier otherwise, it should just be more rewarding. Horde encounters should drop pearls and shards at least the first time you kill enemies and bosses should drop shards and rosaries. Finally some tools could just be a bit less hamstrung like the long nail actually reasonably increasing your range or the shitty moss charm only needing 1 hit to regenerate silk
>>
>>722024473
I thought the same, but then I thought further and realized there aren't many bosses that could plausibly work as "in their prime" rematches beyond Phantom, the Pinstress sisters, and maybe guys like Garmond and Vog. Maybe the Weavers but it would be funny playing Hornet going back to slap some sense into her mom.
>>
>>722024675
The original plan was for the citadel to keep the song going forever so the weavers could be free so it makes little sense for them to be very selective about who knew the song, after they left thw citadel became harder to access for pilgrims and the song started to die off along with them

I beat the big bird boss, but the other half of the rainy level has another bird gauntlet that I just don't have it in me to beat.
Going the other way is probably intended, but I know that just more shit that is too difficult for me lies at the end. I don't get excited for boss fights, I dread them.
>>
So is the nameless town just DLC bait.
Fucking nothing to do up there except talk to the mushroom yet they give you a shortcut like you'd want to come back.
>>
>>722025074
What act are you in? Silksong is very much a game where you're intended to go elsewhere and look for mask shards/new tools/new charms to try and get stronger before taking on a lot of things that you're able to get to.
>>
>>722025162
You get a memento for beating what is so far the hardest platforming challenge in the game.
>>
>>722025162
There's a memento on the dead guy in the hut and the bestiary entries for the various bugs, but it's mostly lore. The shortcut is there if you do the platforming before you have the mushroom quest.

>the game demands gitgud by punishing the use of it's mechanics to mitigate difficulty
Explain.
>>
>>722014391
Probably about 1200 in Act 1 and Act 2, haven't lost any in a while.
>>
>>722025310
The Unravelled is basically an undead silk spirit possessing corpses, one of which is the corpse of a Conductor. Probably the one who died in the operation recording you can find.
>>
>>722018858
I wish they did more with the cute ladybug npc
Lil dude just wanted to run his game
>>
>>722025181
Act 1, I guess. I haven't seen anything talking about another act.
The issue is just that most of the boss fights are a huge jump in difficulty compared to the standard levels and that is above where I am at.
I can have fun traversing a level, but then run into a boss fight roadblock that I have to clear eventually. Running another direction just roadblocks me another way.
>>
>>722025321
Solely upgrades. Some of which are obviously locked behind wishes and boss battles, but the wishes and bosses themselves don't count, only the upgrades themselves.
>>
>>722025461
Think like a hunter. Play it safe, observe, endure, then when you figure out their openings, strike with caution.
>>
>>722025447
I can gather that much but aren't the Conductors pretty high up in the hierarchy, hardly fitting for Silk experiments, especially the ones that can go wrong
>>
>>722025162
what about the secret room in weavenest cindri?
>>
>>722025461
Take your time. Even for experienced players in the genre this game is 50+ hours long. It's normal for bosses to be a difficulty spike, particularly early when you have few options and aren't comfortable with the movement. You'll get there.
>>
Why is the Crawfather fight so kino despite me hating the birds everywhere else?
>>
>>722023395

>>
>>722025310
>>722025447
The unravelled are the souls of a ton of dead failed silk injection experiments. They're just possessing the top of a statue of the conductor, they don't really have anything to do with him. The statue might have been in the Whiteward to honor him or whatever, it's not actually his corpse.
>>
>>722025512
Ok so two questions. Do memory lockets count as upgrades and do you get an upgrade for doing the courier to mt fray wish?

Because you should be used to fighting them by then.

just finished act 3.

one thing ive seen talked about but not enough is Hornet as a character.its hard to explain exactly but she is so refreshing in the way she acts.

>clearly a highly noble and proper princess, she is polite and soft spoken but she also has a beastly hunter side to her.
>her goals are most important to her, nobody is above them but she still cares for others.
>holds high regard for strength but also for kindness, if you are kind enough she'll act good towards you even if you are physically weak and frail.
if i knew how to write my thoughts better i wouldve gone on.

it wouldve been so easy to make her either bitchy, boring or a stuck up annoying mc (thick Lace but not comically over the top enough to be enjoyable) but they did really good. she is very very lovely.
>>
>>722025894
By what, cause the last one remaining is being dripfed a spool of Silk? I suppose that's reason enough but the experiments down there seemed a lot more nasty
>>
>Fighting Lost Lace
>"Ok I think I'm surviving her last phase long enough to not still die if I throw out tools, I get the moveset, if I die this time she's getting the tacks and cogflies"
>Win that attempt
>Never used the tools
That's how almost all bosses for me went. The tools feel like such a huge waste of potential desu. Can't wait for the Pantheon DLC in 5 years where you get a set budget of 100 shards to do the entire Pantheon of Pharloom with just to reiterate how you're never allowed to use them ever.
>>
>>722025461
Don't get greedy
Don't be afraid to use tools
Use your cocoon as a reserve heal by not breaking it the moment you start the boss fight

its cause she was written by men

I like Hornet because she actually acts like an age old demi-god. And the setting takes that character trait very seriously outaide of the handful of "lmao you look like a kid" jokes.

I'm currently playing through Hades 2 and I hate how the gods are written.

She's a more devolved version of a traditional Weaver. it's stated in SS that the Weavers are slowly losing the gifts GMS gave them when she uplifted them from pharlids. It's also why she's referred to as a "common beast" in HK, compared to her dead husband who was a "true" Weaver.

I just did both of these because of these posts. Am I right in thinking that Lugosi turned the Citadel's bugs into some kind of preserved food? What was going on with Styx, is it just that he kills and eats bugs weaker than him or is there more being implied that I'm not getting? The silhouette didn't look like him when I played the Needolin, so is that his wife that he killed or something? He is male after all, and I think it said something about giving birth. It looked like Styx with his head missing, so did he cut his wife's head off or something? I might be overthinking it, it might've just been him without his mask, but then doesn't the needolin only create silhouettes/ghosts for bugs that are dead?
>>
I think it's funny that, for all the times Hornet being half-Weaver is mentioned, the only character who acknowledges her Wyrm heritage is Mister Mushroom.

>>722026813
Styx is some schizo killing other bugs and wearing their masks, and acquiring their personalities temporarily (see mask maker dialogue from HK). His mask looks like the Huntress and he's obsessed with trying to feed Hornet so Stux presumably killed her mate and is now skinwalking him.

The thing I hate the most is how backloaded the game is with upgrades and items. Feels like you're being starved through all of act 1 and then late act 2 you're finding tons of shit. This could have been paced out a lot better. First nail upgrade kind of feels similar in how it doesn't seem like much of an upgrade.

>the Pale King's corpse also doesn't mean anything.
it means everything
you literally acquire the king's soul from his body and it persists when you leave the white palace, it's the real soul
the alternative is to imagine for some reason the pale king left a body double in a dream world for someone to find but somehow imbued that body double with his real soul and somehow survived afterwards despite leaving his soul behind - which is several ridiculous layers into nonsensical "keikaku just as planned" territory, not to mention it makes the hollow knight story completely nonsensical

the spells do not speed up the fight enough to justify the risk of losing a heal considering how punishing a single mistake can be

Yes there is a living Weaver (big globe head) that runs away.
>why would they not have made Herrah one to begin with
Weavers fled their old kingdom then fled back when Radiance shit started happening, it was implied that Herrah was a descendant of the Weavers who came to Hallownest. So technically full weaver I guess, just a Hapsburg Weaver.

the Knight is male
>well ACKSHUALLY the Vessels are genderless beca--
the Knight is male

you know he's male, i know he's male. he's designed as a male, knights are male, nothing about his design is feminine, the developers referred to him as male in Hungry Knight and referred to him as male in the development of Hollow Knight

the Hollow Knight (bigger one) is clearly male too, there's a reason everyone says the Pale King thought of him as a SON rather than 'as a child'

funnily enough the fans of this game know this and subconsiously give it away, by saying Silksong was the mother & daughter counterpart to the father & son story of Hollow Knight
your brain understands that both of the Knights are male and categorizes them as such, don't lie

this bizarre gender ambiguity shit of is tiresome and i will not adhere to it and i will not live in delusion world, sorry
hornet is a girl and the knight is male

>>
>>722029052
Hard agree. In HK you can get:
>A full mask
>Long Nail
>Shaman Stone for spell damage
>Quick Focus for healing
before you even move out of Crossroads.

In Silk Song to get the same you need to do this:
>1 full mask at most by the very end of act 1
>longclaw way at the end of act 2 and its worse than longnail which was the LESSER nail extension charm
>Quick heal halfway into act 2
>Extra tool damage after a long side quest act 1
>Extra spell damage separate at the end of act 2

Also a huge offender is how the fleas give you NOTHING while you get a payout for every single grub
>>
>>722029523

Because this game is at it's best when you stop playing like you're the Knight and start playing like you're Hornet.

From my understanding the original Pharloom was way more peaceful with Weaver being worshipped as the first children while the religion wasn't as greedy with a plain humble Citadel reminiscent of an ascetic monk temple.

But then the First Sinner went ballistic and everything went to shit. And during that point the Weavers subverted the religion and corrupted it so that the gigantic music box containing GMS cpuld operate. And then it's just guess work as to when the Conductors usurped them or when the Silk experiments started etc.

Nothing about the design of the knight is masculine either. He is a black lil blob with limbs underneath the mask. I don't get why you'd get bent out of shape about the lore that the vessels, including the knight, are all genderless. They are neither male or female nor something in between. The entire concept of sex is pointless regarding them because they are just void entities occupying the shape of the vessels.

You didn't, because even if Pale king raised Hollow Knight as a "son" that didn't make the knight a male or grant him sexual characteristics. None of the vessels are male or female biologically, because the void consumed any such characteristics from them. Hornet is called the gendered child for a reason. There is no point in calling her that if the vessels had genders. People use male pronouns for the vessels because both the player character and the Hollow Knight are associated more with masculine characteristics by the fandom, but that does not make them biologically male no matter how much you cope or seethe about it.

All the vessels are genderless void homonculi, with no sexual characteristics.

They are arguably not even bugs because of the process via which they were created. They are void entities.
