I dont know if it's the brightly lit desert map but everything just blurs into the background.
Suppression feels almost OP since you just suppress everything and the enemy then has to watch for the rest of the game as you slowly chip them to death.
On the other hand two basic pirates in a ditch can tank 4 tank MG salvos from2 tiles away without a care in the world when prone.

It is fun that you can actually play tactically but everything so far has been suppression > slowly kill everything > win

Also parking the recon drone in front of the enemies makes them tunnel on it hard and they waste a ton of shots on it since it seems to be hard to hit.

It feels very slow to play which is the largest problem, completely lacks the snappiness of Battle Brothers. The maps also take a long time to move across before you get to a fight sometimes. It actually feels like this is their first tactical game not BB. Lots of little janky problems like firing rockets through walls, not being able to shoot round corners and dead bodies and civs blocking your vehicle. Tbh I don't like how better equipment basically punishes you since the game wants you to deploy at low supply or you get a shitty rating

As for the game, I do not enjoy the squad mates being limited. I hope in the full game there is a way to slowly replenish them or get more. In the demo you don't really have to worry about running out but I am sure this will be an issue in the full game.

My biggest problem is the balance right now honestly. The autolaser is just too good compared to the HMG and GPMG options. Infinite ammo is just way too good to pass up compared to the extra range and suppression of the MGs, while also being flexible enough to engage vehicles (also obsoleting the rocket launcher too), in one run I actually ended up finding a cool tripod mounted version of the GPMG too, but it's just objectively worse in every way to the bipod mounted one. Same stats, except you need to spend an additional 20 AP to deploy it after dropping to a crouch and it has 2 more shots. It is slightly cheaper I guess.

The game is fun, but damn do things feel slooooooww with units having like 2 tiles of movement per turn, airstrikes taking a year to land, pinned enemies/allies taking a decade to be killed or eventually crawl away/etc. I understand the basics of /k/ shit enough to know fire-and-maneuver, and it's satisfying to pull off, but the maneuver part feels absurdly slow. I tend to form a strategy along the lines of "blitz group A in, group B flanks with armor", but in practice it becomes a slog as soon as contact is established.
tl;dr, overall bretty gud/10 so far, my hope is these issues are side effects of being in super early game.

The only annoying squaddies imo are Jean, who's grating but tolerable, (being ironically annoying is still annoying), and tankjeet, who is only mildly annoying at worst, I just find "muh bloodlust" types annoying regardless of genitals unless they're exceptionally well made/really really hammy. My biggest complaint is they simply don't have enough voice lines, I don't fully hate voiced squad leaders but please god at least give them enough unique lines that I don't hear them all after two turns.

Accuracy actually depends more on what gun you have. Different weapons have different favored range bands. The SMG of course performs best within 1-2 tile range, the ARC does best at 3-4, K-PAC 4 and 5 and the Crowbar 6+

I actually really like Phoenix Point, but I must concede that the game simply feels unfinished. If you told me the game in it's current state is in Early Access I'd be all in, because the "bones" are honestly really good, but holy fuck it just needs more polish and dev time to fix a million little issues, speed up enemy turns when there's a gorillion enemies, add a Parcel-type mapgen like XCOM2, clean up the strategy layer, etc etc the list could be an entire post limit wall of text. The Terror from the Deep mod helps but it feels like trying to fix a missing leg with a hilariously small band aid.

Yeah I know that, but it seems that once an enemy goes prone even having a sniper makes it a crapshoot on if you actually inflict any casualties, whereas if you get right up on the enemy even if it says it's not an accurate shot it seems to be a guaranteed kill on anything unarmored just because the SMGs shoot a lot per burst. You can do the same with pretty much any other gun too, but I just happened to use the SMG.

Also pro tip- you can shoot outside your effective range with some weapons by shooting the ground in front of the target. It's obviously not going to do full damage but it can Suppress and save another squaddie's ass in an emergency.

Honestly my issue with Phoenix Point were some of the more questionable design decisions like having most equipment be sidegrades rather than upgrades. A key aspect to X-Com is that you're in a perpetual arms race with the enemy. Enemies don't just stop rolling out deadlier troops and equipment just because you're taking a break from researching better equipment. You can't neglect research and manufacturing newer and better equipment or you'll quickly find yourself outgunned and outmatched by enemy forces. It's part of what makes X-Com intense.
The way establishing new bases was based purely on luck and RNG was really fucking retarded as well. They should have stuck to doing it the X-Com way of selecting where you want to establish new bases instead of basically just having building new bases effectively be random events in random spots on the global map.
Also the devs' implementation of mod support felt like a fucking slap to the face. When they announced mod support I expected modding tools. Instead we got god damn ingame sliders for different shit like starting funds. That's not mod support, that's just custom difficulty settings.
It's a shame because I really did like the core gameplay, especially the Valkyria Chronicles style free aim system and the fact that getting hit was actually based purely on projectiles hitting you rather than a roll of the dice. It made combat feel more realistic and combined with the free aim system opened up possibilities for more unorthodoxed tactics like aiming your shots so that they'd hit multiple enemies in a single burst or cripple an especially strong enemy. The game just ultimately didn't live up to its full potential and it's a god damn shame the devs basically just called it quits and decided to stop patching and updating it.

Armor is absolutely the difference between your men getting chewed to pieces and suppressed, and shrugging off a barrage of fire. Losing units and taking actual damage causes you to suffer extra suppression. The big thing you want is to work around your special weapons. Since they deal lots of suppression with only one gun. Your primary is absolutely best for closing and destroying the enemy rather than suppressing them.

Unless the guys not in the demo have some kind of really cracked abilities, it's gonna be hard picking anyone but Darby and Lim for me. I tried this and it works, you can blow up a few squads in one go, but the issue is not the first few turns. It's that by the time you reach turn 7 the enemy force has more than doubled, and only gets worse from there. Enemy reinforcement spam isn't so bad on it's own, but there is simply no way to reliably finish off pinned groups without running out of ammo for whatever you use in 2 turns. I'm almost considering trying the buggy with the Run Over skill but the one time I used the car it barely feels faster than the APC.

Same way you aim the airstrike. Pinned down enemies also lose movement, and you don’t need a direct hit to be useful. The support fire hits enemies with a massive suppression debuff if they’re simply nearby or see another squad take it. I feel like a lot of the complaints would be alleviated if people were giving their squads more machine guns. The light machine gun is a guaranteed suppress unless a squad is pinned down, and it can just annihilate a squad if you catch them in the open, two if you haven’t moved, and it doesn’t even require deploying to use.

The LMG is way less useful against commandos and light skin vehicles though.
MMGs can reasonably suppress commandos and do decent rear damage to vics but like you said it's gotta be deployed first.
HMGs, which I've only got to use for like 10 minutes is a rape beast of a weapon that suppressed everything better than the vehicle does and rapes everything short of those uparmoured trucks.

1. The fact that there's a roster of existing commanders instead of Your Dudesâ„¢ massively subtracts points from the game for me. Yes, you can rename redshirts, but who really cares about them.
2. The fact that it seems much more like a Roguelite slop (at least mission-wise) instead of open-world sandbox is concerning. There was that game called Darkest Dungeon that tried to pull this shit with its sequel, and it was extremely bad.
3. Fights last forever and I could've played like 3 huge ass fights in BB in the time one mission of Menace is finished. I also don't understand why they insist of saturating the map with the enemy, they outnumber player forces x2 or x3.
4. Art style is extremely generic.
I don't have high hopes for the game but will probably pirate it after a few patches.

Shooting through buildings is an abstraction. The game is supposed to be abstracting 300+ m engagements which is why you can shoot through small buildings and take cover behind solar panels.

Music is good.
Dialogues for the pirates are extremely cringe. Why the fuck is there a conversation where they bully the anti tank squad leader lol?
The fundamentals are good but the game plays like it is in an early alpha stage with cover being very inconsistent, enemies shooting through walls and lame ass cheating AI (they literally charge at your squads the moment they run out of ammo).
7/10 interesting with potential which may or may not be realized during early access.

It's kinda, most of the other characters are pretty grounded in design, even the ripped ones from the files, but then there's Rewa. Completely over the top with the full body bandages.

My point was the building isn't supposed to be taking up an entire tile, despite what the game shows. That's the abstraction, plus all the differences in elevation and so on. There's just a lot of micro terrain, gaps in buildings, men taking cover in higher positions of the building, etc. etc. that's supposed to be assumed.

There's this dissonance between what we see and what we get. They should have made the game look more stylized like say into the breach or something instead of looking realistic and having some mechanics you expect from 3D turn based games but not others is just inconsistent/weird.
