Sophie 2, the latest in the subseries that has the MOST complicated alchemy, won across all 5 regions, Ryza and Yumia barely registered (outside SEA I think it was where yumia got 3rd). Not to mention Yumia got many bad reviews despite the sales, and Res conversely is quite popular among the people who are paying attention to it. If you're looking at pure sales sure it might look diffrent but gust are clearly looking deeper, where it's quite obvious Yumia isn't the way.

Rorona and Ayesha have a lot more going for them in terms of content despite being older and unrefined systems so they're better entries to hook new players with though Ayesha is a bit of a mislead because playing it sets expectations way too high for the rest of the Dusk trilogy which while seeing improved gameplay systems lets you down for not paying off several things in the original ps3 version of the final game. Also, Wilbell is in practice the true protagonist of the Dusk series and is playable in every entry.

Firis is probably the most endearing of the Mysterious protagonists though I'd say.Lydie and Sue is the Mysterious formula perfected. It has the best alchemy and battle system in the trilogy, most hefty post-game and most stuff to do in general. It also has much more stuff happening compared to the first two mysterious games, the story has more urgency. The protagonist twins are also bratty little shits, so they're much more engaging protagonists when it comes to moving stuff along. Like 75% of Lydie and Sue's cast are returning characters though, so playing prior Mysterious games is highly recommended.
