Just look at the little + sign when you check your Digimon's personality during a convo and pick the option that moves it closer to what you want and don't pick the ones that move it away. It should take about 4 fights to prompt the personality conversations for both frontline and backline, so make sure when you finish talking with your frontline to swap and talk with your backline as well.

You can't backtrack to the 1st area after getting to the 2nd one.If you really want to go crazy, you can get some digimon super buffed up with load enhancement. This one does take time but you can keep farming the 4 mobs right before the Kuwagamon boss, convert them asap, let them get exp in the box, and feed them all into any mon you like for exp and bonus stats.
