>absolutely craps out after a month of continuous use
>>
hygiene and cleanliness issue
mine work perfectly after 2 decades
>>
>>722056423
Sony had terrible build quality in that era. My uncle was telling me they all bought 2 or 3 ps2s over the years just because the cd trays and lasers break
>>
>have 6 different controllers
>always handled them with care and stored them properly away from dust
>2 of them gave up completely and won't turn on
>the rest all have stick drift and sticky analogs that smell
Why are they so shit?
>>
They always felt like cheap shit compared to the PS4 one
>>
>>722056423
why did they replace the dog nose sticks with shitty rubber that melts?
>>
>>722056423
I've been using the same dualshock3 that I got with my ps3 in 2012. still working fine and the only thing I've done is put a piece of paper behind the battery so it doesn't do random inputs if i squeeze it.

I clean it from time to time.
you're all a bunch of apes.

windows and linux drivers work with no issues.
>>
>>722056712
>and sticky analogs that smell
Hygiene issue. The first anon to reply to the thread was just shitposting, but if your controller starts to smell, that's literally a you thing. ...Especially if it's sticky.. are you retarded or just too stupid to realize you're dirty?
>>
>>722056423
that shits 2 decades old bro
>>
>>722056423
ANOTHER fucking advertising thread for your shitty controllers, chang? Post the same five fucking images I know you're itching to.

Is it possible to buy brand new sticks to solder in.
>>722059476
How do you keep the sticks from feeling all wobbly? I take care of my stuff but after wear and tear the sticks don't feel too good
>>
>>722056423
Mine still works decades later.
Unlike an Xbox One controlled that got stick drift after a month.
>>
kek my controller managed to tank a bunch of drops and never got stick drift, the battery shat out before anything else did
>>
>>722056553
No, it's literally a natural chemical breakdown issue, dipshit
>>
>>722060141
sticky isn't a hygiene thing with rubberized plastics, they just do that at some point
you can have a box that has never been opened and they'll still eventually leak weird oily shit and get sticky
>>
>>722060863
The Xbox 360 was really solid. I still use it on my PC, the only problem is then the rubber on the analog stick is completely gone, but other than that it's still working fine. But I only play souls games with this controller, so I'm not really abusing it.
>>
>>722060331
they are protecting me
>>
every time i use my ps2 or ps3 after not touching it for a while i have to isopropyl wipe the sticks to get the gunk off then they feel ok after being used for a day

i have some ps4 controllers in a drawer somewhere that do the same thing
i wonder why they make the sticks out of that rubber because i dont notice it on my og xbox controllers or gamecube controllers
>>
>>722060910
your body needs a natural chemical breakdown, fat boy
>>
>>722061156
cube c-stick turns into a weird dried out rubber eraser instead of a sticky mess, it's weird

I think you apply too much force.
probably having small hands help.

I've never done it outside arcade sticks but that petroleum based lubricant for plastics could prevent it. just like add a bit of wd40 as well.

>>722060941
yeah pretty random.
also is not even about wet hands. mine don't sweat.
and I have some controllers that have that and I never use them like my ps1 pad.
I bet there's' ways to fix them. rubber gets hard as fuck if is in contact with some chemicals. example the red paint of my old desk. it made the rubber wire of some controller really stiff.
>>
>>722060941
Just checked my controllers both of them have it what is that?
>>
>>722061314
>example the red paint of my old desk. it made the rubber wire of some controller really stiff.
my skin oil does this to koss headphone cables, and only koss headphone cables

>>722061407
there isn't really a specific hobbyist term for it, "becoming sticky" is about as descriptive as it goes
rubber is made out of sticky shit, the stuff holding it together in a pleasant to the touch way just breaks down and the rubber becomes sappy again
>>
>>722061569
>rubber is made out of sticky shit, the stuff holding it together in a pleasant to the touch way just breaks down and the rubber becomes sappy again
ah, I love the dualshock 3 don't care what anyone says
>>
>>722056423
It’s either super sticky or really oily
>>
>>722061627
you should, it has hall effect sticks
just pray that the interior components doesn't get crudded up

stick caps are somewhat easily replaced (the shoulder buttons are whores if they fall out during disassembly) if you feel like it, or you can put silicone covers on the sticks so you don't feel how tacky they are
>>
>>722061639
I went and pick mine just now. it was a bit sticky and shiny. started playing with it a bit and now is fine. dry hands? idk I guess I got the gamer genes.
>>
>>722061754
>(the shoulder buttons are whores if they fall out during disassembly)
Years ago I disassembled one and was a huge mistake. Couldn't get it back in properly and the controller never felt the same. Very wary of taking anything apart these days.
>silicone covers on the sticks so you don't feel how tacky they are
nah that's no fun. Gonna ride out the analog stick until it's no more. Nothing lasts forever
>>
>>722061897
yeah i don't blame you for not wanting to do a swap, i ruined the shoulders of a rumbleless sixaxis controller with that fucking separator piece breaking

i don't have the guts to open my vita to do a stick swap so they just have little silicone covers
3ds was super easy to replace the circle pad with a nice feeling pewter metal one (rubber didn't get sticky, the glue holding the rubber stopped adhering and the plastic stick crumpled when i used it bare)
>>
Mine has surprisingly little stick drift but sometimes it freaks out and presses random buttons, I tried re-seating the board a few times but re-assembling it is a nightmare. Bought one with magnet sticks from ali a while back instead
>>
and people act like dualsense sticks are incredibly less durable and planned obsolescent than these lol

are the ps3 sticks even truly hall effect sticks like they also claim? (which should last longer before they start to drift than pots used in dualsense)

though i don't remember getting noticeable stick drift when ps3 was current, instead multiple sixaxises and dualshock 3s i used all developed an issue where if you push either stick hard against restrictor in a direction the controller may suddenly start spazzing out (sending random buttom presses for a moment), iirc it was possible to "fix" that by placing some padding inside the controller in certain locations but lol yeah real superior tank-like build quality vs ds4 and ds5

the only shit thing about the PS3 controller is that the contacts are simply lightly pressed against each other instead of being in some connector or latch
because they're all so old now the foam that's supposed to put pressure on the cable to ensure it keeps contact flattens out and now that cable is flopping freely in the controller, which means your button presses are not consistent
weird design don't know why they went with it
>>
PS controllers are the worst, most fragile controllers I've encountered in consoles despite the tech they carry. It bothers me because while the PS4 controllers were really uncomfortable for me and the console was so stupidly loud, it was still my main console and I enjoyed playing the exclusive series, so I invested heavily on the ecosystem but this generation has had very few really interesting exclusives (at least for me), instead a bunch of remakes and remasters and sequels to games I never cared for, and I feel like it's been kind of a bust, and not even the hardware has managed to keep me holding on to that console, so it's there collecting dust. The PS5 is a disaster of a product and it has sold more by the strenght of the brand than the quality of the product itself.
>>
>>722062554
you're probably having this problem >>722063102
you need to replace the foam in the picture
or give it some extra thickness so the input flex board keeps contact with the motherboard pcb
a common "fix" is just to wrap that foam piece with electrical tape to give it some extra thickness
>>
>>722062897
>are the ps3 sticks even truly hall effect sticks like they also claim?
not all of them, but most of them
it's also proof that hall effect -can- drift, along with vita1000 (vita2000 just drifts more because it DOESN'T have hall effect)

i think dualshock 3 has about the tightest deadzone of any oem controller, so it's surprising it doesn't drift more than it does
>>
>>722063286
I did add some electrical tape layers to it but wasn't enough probably
>>
my two six axis from launch day still just werk :)
>>
>>722063246
i honestly like the shape of ds4 the most, but the conductive film inside breaking is ridiculous

Skill issue. Mine works flawlessly after 19 years in service at my PC.
>>
>>722063361
Drifting is just the stick being off center. Even the best hall effect and TMR sticks are slightly off center and you'll see drift with 0% deadzone. The only difference is that hall effect stick deviate from center over time orders of magnitude slower than sticks that make physical contact. There are many chink HE controllers that have larger inner deadzones than modern Alps stick due to being so off center, they just don't get worse over time nearly as much.

disgusting nails.
>>

You're just jealous because I can give my wife really satisfying back scratches.

my ps1, ps2, ps3, ps4, ps5 controllers
all
work
perfectly
you might want to start washing your hands my negros.
>>
>>722060331
If you put a controller in a freezer for a few days will it still work?
>>
>>722063908
that's unrelated, but not using them is the common factor for you
>>

lol. my controllers have seen some thousands of hours of use.

lol
ok

bro most anons here are millennials in our 30s. what's so weird about having old stuff.
>>
>>722064327
yeah i'm 39 and have older stuff than you, why we out here dickwaving?
cause your stupid ass thinks rubberized plastic weeping is because people don't wash your hands, even though a freshly opened box can have that as an issue?

off my board
>>
>>722064451
your->their*
was rephrasing cause i had to dumb it down to the audience, i like things to be tailored like that

>cause your stupid ass thinks rubberized plastic weeping
we are all giving our anecdotal evidence but given that i can personally vouche for like a dozen of well functioning controllers i think it's a decent track record to make a point
>>
>>722064693
lol ok
>>
>>722064451
>even though a freshly opened box
>that much gunk
why you lying anon
>>
>>722064814
i think you're trying to talk about something else than what i'm talking about
i'm talking about the sticky rubber phenomenon when there is breakdown of the chemicals used to make rubber into something soft and it turns back to sappy crap, which happens unrelated to handling
there's several unopened "retro products" that are gross when people go to open them, because of this crap
it's a poor material choice
>>
>>722062187
Yeah best proceed with caution. Take care dualshock3 bro
>>
>>722056423
My PS2 and PS3 pads still work flawlessly. My Joycons drifed after 3 months.
>>
>>722064327
>in our 30s

>i'm 39
>>722064693

You 3↊ or something?
>>
>>722063935
No problem, as long as you put it in a sealed bag to avoid moisture, let it dry out properly afterwards, and that there's no battery inside. The motors for the rumble may suffer though.
>>
>>722056592
Your uncle must’ve been compulsively smashing his PS2s with a hammer every few months, because I only had to replace the laser once in more than 20 years now, and even then it was only having problems reading CDs.
