Someone recommended this to me and I played it on a whim and it was pure kino. Are the rest of the expedition games just as good?

Also did you march on rome? Did you kill lurco?

To me the game really wanted me to, but I put my trust in the glorious roman people and its senate and I wasn't let down. Absolute kino.

First time I', hearing of those, but it looks good. How are the graphics? Do you control one guy or do you have sidekicks like Mass Effect? Are there big ass battles where you control armies?
>>
>>722064539
Graphics are mix of stylistic low poly and typical UE medium budget shit. Also you control 5 units and yes, but it's just a minigame you play on the map. You do have sieges where you control 5-10 units in different teams, usually at the climax of each "zone".
>>
Also enjoyed it, and played on a whim too. Since I enjoyed I tried the Vikings one but it didn't feel like it had the same appeal, dropped it before completing.

It was ok but it could have been much better

The other two are shit

Exp Viking maybe would be playable but the interface is insanely bad with tiny icons and text that looks like it was made for ants on 1440p

Which is a shame since Id be down to play a game about colonizing and civilizing some savages

I'm glad I got to play as Vorenus/Pullo combo from HBO's Rome

>>722066032
I disliked that whole section, although I still kept her happy since I wanted to keep Cleo happy.

I have tolerance for that from playing paradox games, I'm going to try both of them a shot at least.
>>
>>722066214
>I disliked that whole section, although I still kept her happy since I wanted to keep Cleo happy.
Eh, that whole section with you being busy with "negotiations" while in the meantime your companions are trying their damnest not to burn the Library of Alexandria, while the game keeps pushing you towards burning the Library of Alexandria was legit hilarious.

Oh yeah Egypt section in general was great, but I meant the specific inclusion of the cat goddess and her sections. I worded that pretty poorly.
>>

Fuck you, Lurco. Although, having TWO armies later in Gaul flat out trivializes the game.

>>722064298
I tried to play conquistador years ago (a decade?) but it had female crew members and I couldn't get immersed.
>>
>>722064298
>Are the rest of the expedition games just as good?
Sure. Conquistador is a bit awkward at first, because it plays less like an RPG and more like King's Bounty clone.
Viking is fun if a bit janky. But IMO Rome is the best.
I wonder what the next game in the series is going to be about.

Are they making one? I just saw the devs fell for some NFT gaming meme. So it's up to the publisher if they want to bounce the game off to some other studio unless the old devs are still around.

Based. I hope for crusades setting.
>>
>>722067216
Me too.
Although, I wouldn't be surprised if they went with some Asian setting, to pivot away from Europe a bit.
I wouldn't say no to a game set during the Sengoku Jidai period It also fits their MO, given that Viking was a riff on a Vikings TV show, Rome was a riff on a HBO's Rome, it's only fitting for their next game to riff off of Shogun.
>>
>>722064298
Conquistador has the best writing and difficulty curve/balance. Rome and Vikings drag on for way too long with the base management strategy nonsense and your party ends up too powerful.

I feel there's been an oversaturation of sengoku media in the recent history. Particularly with the Will Adams outsider take. Shogun and Asscreed Shadows basically came out back to back.

The army battle spam was getting to a point I was hoping to just automate it, and yeah my main character at the end was basically soloing fights on the hardest difficulty.

Not becoming an emperor/empress is the stupidest move you could ever make in that situation. The whole army is behind you, an opportunity to shape the fate of the world, the only thing that matters in life - power, is in your hands. Why would you choose to squander it all on some ephemeral ideals?
>>
>>722070320
There's basic classes and it's like a mini crpg more than a strategy game

Rome should never have pushed past the alps and I think if not for a power grabbing dictator they never extend to the british isles. If they remained a mediterranean power they'd probably have remained as one empire until ottomans eventually pushed them back. But I also didn't want to larp as Caesar, it was more fun to RP as just a soldier. Becoming the emperor was jumping the shark for my protagonist.
>>
>>722070923
You have 6 (IIRC) fully-fleshed out story companions with their own content and quests just like in a typical cRPG, plus you can recruit a bunch of generic meatshields as your secondary party. Having multiple parties is necessary, because there are a lot of things going on in the world map and even you can't be everywhere at once.
Yes, there are romances.
>>
>>722072269
>Having multiple parties is necessary, because there are a lot of things going on in the world map and even you can't be everywhere at once.
i didn't even realize you can split your homies. though i did get punished for that during the africa section since you get a ton of maluses for running around with no rations
>>
>>722072269
>Yes, there are romances.
Not a fan, as usually badly written.
Multiple teams, eh?
>>
>>722072269
>>722073390
Can you mix and match, like 3 meat shields and 3 unique per team?
>>
>>722073443
Yeah, you can. I usually had Dei/Julia lead one party of meatshields, while my PC was busy doing something else with the rest of the soldiers.

she's a slut

i'd probably have kept her in my party over either the archer lady or the scythia lady though. they both had to sit on the bench and make room for lucius vorenus and titus pullo in my game.

Yeah, I would've preferred her over Dei. Because holy shit was Dei boring. At least Raia had some kind of personality.

Same here I even left a bad review just because of it. Pissed me off they made a historical game and put a bunch of women in it. I decided to give Rome a try and it's much better, you're only forced to use Julia but I begrudgingly accepted it because the game makes a big thing out of her pretending to be a man, even if it was done horribly, I had no idea she was supposed to be pretending to be a man until right before the "reveal" at the start of the game and was wondering why this woman had a dude's name in the UI

There were quite a few mentions that showcase the times in Rome being bad for women but yeah I stll noticed things like the symposium thing having female attendees. Your legionnaires comment on their legate having women in the legion in a sceptical way and you can RP as a sexist badguy. I'm installing conquistador and trying it later today though.

I'm surprised this thread even got more than 2 on topic replies, I didn't know these games had an audience on this board
>>
>>722076796
>Pissed me off they made a historical game and put a bunch of women in it.
So that's what pisses you off but absolutely raping any semblance of historical accuracy is perfectly fine. BMWs in Rome are fine as long as they don't have a woman in the passenger seat. Are you Gr*ek or something?

Yeah the obvious hamfisted female roles are hamfisted, but they're almost invisible compared to the level of bullshit the game does on most other fronts, especially in contrast to the things they do genuinely try to get right. The Egypt and Egyptians can scarcely be called a pastiche or cartoon even if you're sucking the game off harder than Kinghley does Kojima.
>>
>>722078396
Well yeah. I don't mind artistic license. I'm not looking for a historical simulation. But I can't take female soldiers/warriors seriously. This extends to other games as well, even fantasy ones.
