Do you think these things should return or be completely discarded?
>>
>>722069398
fuck that shit, include the manual on the cartridge and put a short story in the case with concept art pages
>>
>>722069624
Yeah, I don't see a point in making them physical except to help jerk off nostalgiafags.
>>
There's no longer any point because all new games come with a 20 minute mandatory onboarding tutorial to teach you how to play.
>>
>>722069398
>that many sports games
why do you have such shit taste
>>
>>722069398
they should bring back special editions that include a little complete guide in the game case format
>>
>>722069893
This. Physical-only people have become such a minority that you might as well just keep all that stuff exclusive to special editions. People with gay little collections are so deep in the game they basically HAVE to buy them.
>>
>>722069956
At least these people own their games
>>
No. We have in game menus now
>>
>>722069786
On one hand in game instructions feel more convenient than flipping through some tiny book, on the other sometimes it makes you feel like you're being hand-holded for far too long.
>>
>>722070356
Cool. I just care about playing them.
>>
They should return as art books and stuff
>>
>>722070356
Unless it's on PC where they can dump it and do whatever they want with the files, no they don't. They just like to pretend they do. And the people who buy those collectors editions most won't even play it, they just buy it to sit it on their shelf.
>>
>>722069398
I want to play some shit like Pillars of Eternity where reading manual would come in handy but I don't want to read it digital, if I had physical I would read it on the shitter

>posting cancer-gen manuals when all SOUL was already killed
You haven't read a proper instruction BOOKLET, zoomie.

>>722070658
>On one hand in game instructions feel more convenient than flipping through some tiny book
It does not though.
Way the old games worked:

1. you read the manual, learn the basics
2. you play the game, and enjoy

>OG Zelda had a huge ass paper map

No wonder I couldn't get into it on switch
>>
>>722071251
Eww, bacteria.

Bet there's an app with all digital manuals by now
>>
>>722071514
In some regions, it was a canvas print.
But you really don't need it to play the game.
>>
>>722069398
They are obsolete when manuals today are either in-game, a pdf, or done in the form of in-game tutorials. Paper manuals today are genuinely speaking, a waste of paper only meant to appease a tiny minority still nostalgic for a bygone era.
>>
If games are going to cost as much as they do there’s no fucking reason they can’t include a manual. Plastic cases are thinner and flimsier than ever with no manuals or even inserts yet games cost more than ever. It’s comical how 15 years ago we thought digital games would be cheaper because it cuts out the production costs
>>
>have to have your parents drive you to the game store
>get your game off the shelf or ask the clerk for help
>hand him the money/receive change and receipt etc
>read the game manual on the way home
>finally get home and play the game
it sounds stupid but this “instant gratification” is probably why younger kids dopamine receptors are fried. Getting a game used to be “an event” and now it’s like “ehhh this game is boring let me get another one” and probably why it’s so common to see anons with fuck huge backlogs or straight up buying games they never play
>>
>>722074071

Marvelous games have instructions, last devs who care
>>
>>722073631
I never read the manual to learn how to play the game I just enjoyed the character bios and artworks
>>
>>722074303
>expanded lore

It makes the game more magical
>>
>>722074380
exactly. I feel like there is a lot of generational divide happening in this thread because I find it bizarre that somebody would enjoy reading a game manual for lore reasons alone
>>
>>722074528
not enjoy**
>>
>>722074945
>>722074528
Things to be truly enjoyable they must savoured, slowly, digested and then you feel fulfilled when you're done.

like anon said before Instant gratification ruins every experience, whether it's a book or a videogame. Hell , even food cannot be enjoyed because you must eat asap and move to the next thing

Complete waste of paper that will add to nothing but polution of the ecosystem once the "magic" wears out and people throw them away
>>
>>722077358
>throw them away
why? I have game boxes and manuals from 30 years ago
>>
>>722077401
yeah you do and I commend you for it, but 90%+ of people won't care like you do
>>
>>722069786
And also constant popups to remind you that, indeed, pushing W moves your character forward

Does any of your games or manuals have so called battle damage?
>>
>>722077545
Worse. Game has yellow paint
>>
>>722078071
some minor sun fading on the spines of the cases but otherwise no. Disc rot is highly exaggerated
>>
>>722079407

Cool. Thought of things like dog bites or orange juice spill at a birthday party, those are precious memories.
>>
>>722079528
my original gamecube suffered “the root beer incident of 2004” but got cleaned out and repaired and has been chugging along for 20 years since
>>
>>722080261
Wonderful story anon. Let this console serve well even your grandchildren
>>722077793
>Game has in-game manual you need to figure out
>>
>>722069398
Discard unless it's a collector's edition or a first print. Bring FOMO to the forefront.
>>
>>722080959
But first edition games are usually unfinished software that need say one patch and polish within first year of release
>>
>>722069398
Manuals today would cost you at least 20$ more
>>
>>722081359
That's why they only come with switch 2 games
>>
>>722069398
No, its neat but I really only flip though em when its either a game I already know and just wanna see art renders or its a really old game like atari 2600 games or even some NES games. Modern games dont need em, cool if a dev throws one in but Its overall a waste of paper and unnecessary for most releases
>>
>>722081359
They kind of already do. They’re usually only included in “limited run” prints or expensive collectors editions both of which cost more than the standard edition
>>
>>722069398
Physical games accounted for 3% of ps5 sales last year. Physical media is dead sadly.
>>
>>722082440
I don’t believe those (((sales figures))) more than likely an outright lie to push the all digital future
>>
>>722069624
I hate that only the Vita bothered with this shit on Sony's end. PS4/PS5, the game either has an annoying mandatory tutorial, or its splash page on the OS links to a dead URL manual.
