What games did you buy at full price and quickly regretted it?
>>722074757>buy
Tales of Symphonia 2
>>722074876I'm vegan, by the way.
Evolution World for the GCN
>>722074757Literally meI begged my parents to buy me "enter the matrix" it came on 6 cds I think. And it turned out biggest shit in the universe, I was so fucking mad with myself I never bought any game ever (except PoP warrior within) and just borrowed games from my friends.
remember how you needed to buy a memory upgrade for the N64 to play majora's mask?
Been a while since I paid full price. Indie games I just get on steam sale, big games I always use keysites like idk instant gaming or just pirate from rutracker. I'd never buy a remake or an AAA game, but I certainly won't pirate something like look outside.
>>722074757Toy Story on SNES. I traded away my copy of Super Metroid for it.
>>722074757>PicThere were corners to try out games before buying
>>722074757Dragon Age 2.
>>722074757Last one was TotK, but I got my money back.
>>722075086I'm sorry anon I had Toy Story and loved it and beat it.
>>722074757Dragon's Dogma 2. It was the only modern game I was willing to buy no matter what because it couldn't possibly turn out bad, and you already know the rest of the story.
>>722074757thisit sucked but i learned that while i like jrpgs, i do not like gay anime shit
>>722074757I havent bought a full priced game in probably 10 years, I get everything on https://www.instant-gaming.com/?igr=gamer-8b1867
>>722074757Dark Cloud 1, Borderlands 3, Fable 3, DOA4, THPS1+2R, and FF7R
>>722074757crazy how games doubled in price but the quality dropped also
>>722074757LOTR Conquest (or whatever the one that was supposed to be LOTR battlefront was called) did not meet my standards.
>>722074757>zoomers dont know about blockbuster/hollywood videoAlso used to abuse funco's 7 day return policy until gamestop bought them.
>>722075064came bundled with DK64 so it was a non issue for me
>>722075265Consoomers don't need good, it just has to be new, bonus points for being trendy with their favorite like&subscribepig
>>722074757Too many to count. Had a few discs that just flat out didn't work for me at all for some reason, back in the day.
>rent games>buy them if you actually like themit was that easy
>>722075295Pretty much thisHad one right down the road from me, played a new game basically every week
>>722074757Every fightan game ever since I don't even play online.Learned to just wait for the inevitable price drop.
>>722075356you can still do thisits called steam refund
>>722075186literally me lmao
>>722075356>RentGoddamn the 90s and 00s were truly peak for gamers in every way
>>722074757Payday 3 and Callisto Protocol
>>722075267>LOTR ConquestNever got to play that one, and I really wanted to as a kid, back then. Reminded of that one Joan of Arc game a bit.
>>722075040you shouldve bought path of neo, that game was super sweet
>>722074757>It's 1992>You just rented five games for $5 dollars from your local rental shop and you have a week to play them>One is good, you convince your grandma to buy it for your birthday.
>>722075186>likes jarpigs>doesnt like animeyou filtered out like 90% of all jrpgs
>>722074757I fell foe two worlds 1 was gonna be the oblivion killer. I literally watched its trailer over and over again every single day until release. Bought it on launch foe 600kr which is around 60 bucks and some minutes into the game i started crying over wasting a opportunity to buy games on two worlds lolPicrel still have it
>>722074757i don't know if it was a thing around but the video game store where i used to buy games back then would let me trade my full priced game for another if you brought it back within a few days with the receipt, it saved the pain of bad games in the past
pic rel, it was an absolute piece of shit and i returned it the same day for less than half of what i paid. better than keeping it.
>zoomer who wasn’t even born yet tries to tell those who were how it was back thenNobody and I mean NOBODY bought a brand new game blind
>>722075603jrpgs were fine in the 2d era when the anime shit was gated by graphic capability growing up on snes final fantasies then playing some 3d uwu :3 game was jarring as a kid
>>722075186what jrpg isn't gay anime shit?
>>722075648kek i never heard of that game
>>722075648I kinda enjoyed it it, even though the game is pretty shit. And it has a cool main menu theme.
>>722075690>returned sames day>for less than half of what I paidOof.
>>722075186Same. I like the anime look but I don't like anime dialogue, acting and cringe jokes.
I feel this and I pirate everything. I even have good download speed so it's not like I'm waiting a full day for a game either, its just like "get this trash off my computer man" sorta feeling
Most recently, Fetus game. From the makes of odyssey my ass.
>>722075745Good!
>>722075690>didnt keep it for 20 years so he could sell it for $200 to some retarded collectoryou lack shark mentality
Stellar Blade at 20% off which is basically full price
>>722074757Bro games were literally $80 in 1992 and if it was bugged or totally broken you’d have no way to know or even return it easily.
>>722075749After 6 months i forced myself to play it. Dunno how far i got but i was killing everything super easily. Ran on sub 30fps lmao
>>722075407doesn't really work when modern game tutorials/intros are 3 hours
>>722075785i really liked that early-00s sci fi jrpg look
>>72207475750 bucks for a game in the 90's?
>>722075758I really hated it that much, I felt so fucking retarded. I bought it because at that point i thought Squeenix could do no wrong, and i wanted to see the FFX-2 demo (that was awesome, bought that game and enjoyed it). Only other time i ever returned a game the day I bought it was State of Emergency, but at least I got that used for like 10-15 bucks>>722075812I was the kinda kid who sold games when he beat them to get new ones. As a result, I played a shitload of great games back in the day, but I have had to rebuild my retro collection from pretty much nothing. I am well aware of how much money I missed out on, and it bothers me everyday
Street Fighter 4I was expecting it to be fun single-player like Tekken (it was not, it sucked ass)
>>722074757I preordered Fable 3 and learned real fucking quick never to do that again.
The moment I saw mobs dropping crafting materials I knew I dun goofed.
>>722076047It still makes me angry how dissapointing that game was after the god tier Fable 2.
>>722075356I still do this, except renting now costs $0.
>>722075105Video rentals used to be a mainstay in the neighborhoods of the poors. It was a sad day when they all went the way of the Dodo.
>>722076025This makes me so glad that the UK has a good returns policy. You can return any item (game, movie, book, etc) within 2 weeks of purchase for any reason, even if it's used/opened.It was a life saver as a poor child.
>>722075741You just like western localization. It completely changes artstyle in box etc. to more generic western fantasy, and changes writing to be less Japanese.Play DnD.
>>722076186Which is weird how come Video Rental stores never got knocked over in robberies?
>>722074757literally doesn't happen to me, im almost never disappointed in my purchases or media consumption choices, I have a very good intuition for what I will like. I honestly feel bad for people who lack this ability and have to go around guessing all the time.
>>722074757>look up 1992>see title >have flashback of my rageStar Trek: 25th Anniversary.
>>722074757I got fooled multiple times by LJN because I really liked Marvel as a kid.
>>722075741that’s why the OG FF7 rules and the remake drools. It’s easier to ignore the cutesy anime shit when it’s low poly
>>722076102glad i never got swindled by this, almost did
>>722076189>You can return any item (game, movie, book, etc) within 2 weeks of purchase for any reason, even if it's used/opened.I found out this lesson the hard way upon realizing that the return policy in my country is utter dogshit. Enough that you wouldn't even consider any future visits when they pulled bullshit like that.
>>722074757none, idk how you wind up regretting a game purchase other than gacha
Back then you never got buyers remorse
>>722076245They did. I got robbed at Hollywood Video once.
>>722076189wow, thats insanely consumer friendly. that would NEVER be a thing here in NYC, especially not in the ghetto in the late 90s. fortunately i bought so many games as a kid that my parents and i got in the good graces of the owner, and he would give us discounts and shit like that. even with trade ins, i was probably buying a $40 game just about every week - there were that many good games coming out back then.what a time to be alive....
>>722076332That's a huge bummer, I'm sorry to hear that anon.
>>722075941which is ironic because PSO2 when full blown kawaiiiiii uguuuuuuu~~~~~ :3
>>722074757That's why you rented it first
>>722076352I know, those late fees are nuts
>>722075006I liked this game lol
>>722075865many retail stores have a return policy. if game is shit in 5 minutes, you return it same day for money back. its not as common now because games are online keys like mmos.
>>722074757Wrestlemania on the NES
>>722076245I couldn't tell you what it was like in the big cities but trying to knock over a small time shop is downright nog behavior. Stealing the discs themselves is one thing but wiping out the store itself is just plain rude. When the town is small enough you will figure out who pulled it unless they came in from outside.
>>722076438I was born in 91 and I've never rented a game or movie.
i don't think i fully regretted a purchase until i got the collectors edition of halo wars. i thought they had figured out the console RTS finally but it was just as shit as any other.
>>722074757the entire n64 librarythey roped you in with the 4 good exclusives and then every single other game for that console was an honest to god 0/10
>>722076582I had a PS1 and an N64, the N64 got a lot more use than the PS1 did.
MOOOOOOOOOODS
>>722074757first you spent 3bux on a rental or talked to kids at schoolsome mom and pop game stores would often get those new games sold to them and they would have multiple TVs running and you could pop A N Y game in and try it on the spotthere was a game store called Game Force in my local Krogers(back when it had a bunch of also-connected businesses in a main hall) that did that
>>722074757My dumbass bought Dying Light 2.
>>722076531I was born in 91 and rented videogames and movies all the time
abib you worthless cocksucker
>>722074757Sonic Heroes was the first time I spent my hard earned money on a full priced turd. The game has 4 copy pasted story lines, with different characters that play exactly the same.It made my blood boil the fact some people claimed this game was good. No, it was fucking not.
>>722076756You were clearly richer than me.Because we were very poor, we bought all the games we wanted (better to buy a game used once, than to rent it 10 times plus travel costs to get back to the store). It means I never rented anything, but at least I still own all the games I loved growing up.
>>722075973Games were like $80 in the 90’sLike $100 in Canada
>>722076845>he didn't pirate Playstation gamesNo wonder you were poor.
>>722076845NTA but games here were 1bux for a 3 day rental(SNES/Genesis)N64 was spendier at 3bux when it came outbut a single dollarydoo for a weekend of play was some juicy value where I livedonly issue was that after retarded kids ruined manuals they started printing them as part of the cover inserts on the back lmaomany did not say enough
>>722076582Same, once you played Zelda, Mario, Starfox, and Goldeneye, there was nothing else worth checking out.
>>722076582bro, your Jet Force Geminiyour Blast Corpsyour Diddy Kong Racingare you seriously trying to play for even a second that any of those are a 0/10that ain't even all that comes to mind
>>722077007>He didn't pirate playstation gamesNo, I didn't. My cousin got his Playstation chipped and the thing literally exploded, huge bang, smoke plume rose out of the console, never worked again.I knew we couldn't afford a second PS if that happened to mine, so I just bought good games for cheap instead.
the division
>>722074757Jump Force is the only one so far
>>722076540I only played the ultimate edition. I love that game. Was the original bad?
>>722076895I don't remember them being anywhere near that expensive.
>>722077219they're still chasing the JUMP Ultimate Stars era of popularityand they just don't understand what made it BASED
>>722076845m8 it was like 5 bucks to rent a game for 5 days. Not everything was as expensive as blockbuster
>>722077219Yeah that game was ass.
>>722074757Metroid: Other M is the one I remember regretting the most.New York Race was another game I paid full price for and didn't really like, but it took more than 5 minutes because I'd enjoyed and played the fuck out of the demo so I knew I liked the gameplay. It just turns out the map they used in the demo is the best map in the game and every other track is confusing as fuck.
>>722074757naraka, enjoyed some games but not worth 80€
>>722077219The one time we can see these characters together and they fumble it this hard.
>>722077304I live rurally. The only rental place nearby was a blockbuster that took over an hour to drive to.It was cheaper to buy used games for us, it's why we did it.
>>722074757New World
>>722074757Space Marines 2 or whatever it was exactly called. Bought it for 60 dollarydoos on release and it was a mistake. Maybe a 10$ experience at most.
Bought Night Reign. Didn't even complete the first mission but that was over the two hour limit so I don't get to refund it.
>>722077349>The one timeThis wasn't the first or only time.
>>722077341kek, i checked the store page and now it's f2p, i got really fucked
>>722077349>the one timenigga
MH:Wilds
>>722077514I meant to say these videogame crossovers are the one time they are able to crossover all these characters. So it's something it shouldn't be fumbled. Also wasn't there a leak about a new game being in the making? What happened to that?
>>722076047I can boot up og Fable and still enjoy it. Fable 3 felt like an eternal tutorial. Can't finish it.
>>722076281A couple of years ago I was reading the Star Trek 25th anniversary issue of nintendo power while taking a shit and it suddenly hit me that it had been longer since that issue came out then it was from the end of Star Trek to that series. Star Trek was always boring boomer shit in my mind and the sudden realization that I was older than my father was when he bought that issue for me blew my mind.>>722077393I lived rurally and we didn't have a chain store like that. The video rental store was just some mom and pop place that had a deal where if you rented five games you could get them for five dollars for five days.
Saw some horrible shit in this thread. Some people deserve to burn in Hell for the rest of eternity.
>>722074757DOA on dreamcast I got a refund though so Idc
>>722076895new games were $40-$50 dollars in the US until the year 2000, you're making shit up to confuse zoomers and third worlders
I bought Rage 2 on release for some inexplicable reason. Only game I refunded so far.
>>722076582Just like the Gamecube and Wii
>>722077763First day on 4chan? That was almost certainly a Brazilian
>>722077835I can say with full certainty that around 1998-2005 console games were $50 because every birthday my grandmother would give me $50 which was enough for a single game
>>722074757>Its 1992.>I go into a rental store having a sale.>The SNES is popular so they are getting rid of their NES games that are rentals.>I walk out of the place with over 30 games for maybe $50.>Its now 1997>I go to Kmart with $50.>I walk out with 3 to 5 games at the price of $10 to $30 each.>Its now 2005 and I buy one game for $40.>Its now 2025 and I dont buy any games because id rather spend it on something worth while.
>>722077714>I lived rurally and we didn't have a chain store like that.Nor did we. Like I said, we had to travel for over an hour to get to our "local" rental store. It was absurdly prohibitive. If your local town had a video rental store, you lived much less rurally than I did.
Dragons Dogma 2
>>722077940yup, games didn't go up to 60 bucks until ps3 at earliest.... unless you were a tendie lmao
>>722076540I regret buying a shitty remaster of San Andreas for the 360 because I wanted to play it again. Realizing that it was the same company that will go on to do the Redeemed Editions was almost cathartic. They ripped me off before and now they got to do it again with the official backing of T2 themselves. I wouldn't piss on that shit heap of a company if they were on fire. The fact that they were using that already dogshit android port again with jeet slave labor and AIshart is just the cherry on top.
>>722074757Spider-Man 3 movie game for ps2.Really enjoyed the second one on pc, don't know what happened.
>>722077892not him, but I've been coming here for almost 20 years and had never seen hardcore CSAM on /v/
>>722074757devil may cry 2final fantasy x-2dc universeI learned not to fall for squeals because the first game was goodand not to think a vidya will be fun because I saw people enjoy it
>>722078070>Australian dollarsnice try
>>722078213that fact that you typed CSAM instead of cheese pizza proves youre full of shit, stop larping kid
Castlevania Doninum Collection and Ace Attorney HD collection. Save states, rewind. This is not how these games were meant to be played.
>>722074757Sacred 2because it's been right after i beaten first one, and when i saw sequel in the store i had to buy it, and since i was a stupid little kid i dind't understand spec requirements and when i started the game i had like 10 fps tops and i ruined the box when i was opening it like a fucking idiot so i couldn't return it lol
Every time I have pre-ordered a game, it takes week to arrive and the used copy market makes it half off. Every fucking time.>>722077763Before 2013 there was no great filter for that kind of stuff.

>>722078516That was a branding decision. The Gameboy Color wasn't called the "Colour" in Australia either.

The PS2 and Xbox also had a really low shovelware rate.

Spore. What a turd of a game. Takes 30 minutes to get to the Space Age and then you just dink around hauling cargo back and forth. Not to mention the game just looks ugly as sin.
>>722079164Have you played Cronos New Dawn? I only have room in my life for 1 Dead Spacelik
I got caught by the "title sounds like a more famous, and much better, game". Try to guess what it was.
>>722079546What? They did. We're comparing it to the n64 and if you walked into any store that had n64 games chances are at least half of them were complete trash that didn't even qualify as a tech demo. Superman 64. Batman Beyond. That south park game with the snowballs. Even your worst ps2 game is leagues ahead of that shit
>>722078570I bought Bubsy when I was a kid from Radio Shack when it was nearly brand new for $10, you can suck my big fat boomer dick asshole, new games always costed that but if you waited a few months to a year they cost nearly nothing. Now, a game that's 10 years old is still fucking $60 new!So shove those papers up your ass, cause I have my funco land book and I am tempted to scan this shit to fuck all your gay arguments up from here and into the future because in that mail order magazine was the prices of all these games.I paid $10 for Secret of Mana, and I paid $20 for Super Mario RPG!

>>722077408This was a terribly soulless MMO, made even worse by its post-release development arc. They started with actually good combat, with deep melee mechanics, then yielded to their playerbase and made it all hotkey clicking like every other MMO ever. They could have been the only MMO in existence with real combat but threw it away thinking they should just be WoW and lost whatever differentiating feature they had. >>722074757Most games, actually. I have been extremely susceptible to FOMO a lot in the past and I've been working on that a lot this year. Haven't bought anything day one this year besides Monster Hunter Wilds and Doom the Dark Ages. Games generally aren't worth $70, so I'm finally just waiting for sales on everything and working through a lot of my backlog in the meantime. Recent examples being that having not finished MGSV (and owning the Master Collection), Borderlands 3, Hollow Knight, and Hades prevented me from buying MGS3 Delta, Borderlands 4, Silksong, and Hades 2 day one on a whim. I finished Borderlands 3, another playthrough of original MGS3, and Hollow Knight in the past week and working on MGSV and Hades right now.

And then I would methodically replace every single fruit in the park with fake ones filled with rotten eggs. I'd spend a fortune hiring as much staff as I need to make this happen for months, even years until the monkeys resort to cannibalism, and lo and behold, the baby monkey they killed has also been stuffed with rotten eggs.I don't know why, I just hate monkeys.

>>722092957>unless you're grinding Super Credits.Even then, I like grinding SC solo. I put on a video/show or listen to something and just cruise around with the warp pack and FRV. I get like 20-60SC and 2-10 medals every ten minutes. The key is to just find terminate broadcast maps so I can just pop the tower cross map with something and then chill. Much better than having to talk to people and coordinate IMO. I usually do 1-2 maps like that any day that I play since I'm a bit behind on warbonds.

>>722087539JRPG and RPG are both just overloaded terms, like "love" or "sandwhich". People usually have a more specific idea of what they mean, which goes uncommunicated unless you elaborate. Like how Dark Souls and Dragon Quest are both Japanese and games where you "role play", but Dark Souls has action combat and light platforming with custom character creation while most DQ games are turn-based and menu-based random battles with predefined player characters.

Sparking Zero. It could have used another year of development since most of the offline gamemodes were lacking features that the previous entries had. The story mode only went up to the Tournament of Power, and practically ever single cutscene was just a glorified power point presentation with no voice acting whatsoever. The whole idea of What If sounded great on paper since it could have been a proper expansion on what BT3 did with those outlandish battle scenarios like Freeza vs Devilman, but they were so few and far between that felt really half baked at the end.
