I've very hungry for a new XCOM and my favorite part of the genre is having "my dudes" with the dynamic story telling (which is making me understand my love for Kenshi a lot more, when put this way). Never heard of this game, but you seem to get it anon. This game worth giving a chance and at least keeping an eye on? Or is it never gonna scratch the itch

Works both ways you dumb nigger. Suppress the enemy before they can suppress your dudes. If they got one of your squads suppressed move another squad up to lay down some fire and try to pin the enemy down. That's kind of the basic strategy for the game. Don't just try to outright kill the bad guys. Pin them down first and THEN go in for the kill.

i think xcom is a good comparison. it will have base management and its grid based tactics. Its like battle brothers in that it seems like its more open world than xcom on the strategic layer, and tactically it has a battle brothers feel to its balance. with stuff like 'bullshit enemies you cannot properly approach causing situations that feel like you are fucked but somehow you are managing to hang in there and pull through' contrasted against 'non bullshit enemies that directly fuck you immediately if you dont approach them right but are easy to handle if you just move properly and count the spaces'

King arthur knights tale is similar but unlike xcom its not like missions where you drop in fight and leave, it forces you to slowly walk through huge maps searching for the occasional near worthless item, checkpoints where you decide to refill either armor or health and optional encounters. That, the severe lack of enemy variety, forced filler mission spam and level / story progression being painfully slow all combine to wear the game down hard. I got about a third of the way through the game before I couldn't take the tedium anymore which sucked because the combat, voice acting and story are pretty solid its just everything surrounding that is monotonous as fuck. If you have a high tolerance for those downsides you might like it.

why does the perimeter sweep mission say you only need to kill 60% of the enemy forces when you actually need to kill 100% of the ones on the map? I've swept the map except 1 corner and killed everything I've encountered but I was still 1 squad short of accomplishing the objective. A single EMP squad was hiding in the last corner. where's the other 40% of the enemy forces?

Thats a good question. I randomly stumbled upon it when it was heavily discounted on console, saw it was a turn based rpg that looked similar to wasteland and xcom with good ratings and bought it.
I just took a quick glance over at nexus and theres definitely some mods that would certainly improve the game like faster walking speed, better scrolls, more gold and materials in chests and better formations. Theres some overhaul mods too but most of them seem to radically change the game. Actually the mod "KAKT 3v0 Complete Mod" seems to be a straight up enhancement of the game from what I can tell from skimming what it changes and adds.

The old 40k game? Some of its assets (voice lines for Chaos) got into ROSIGMA. It's an interesting contrast to X-Com and OpenXcom. I kind of like the linear campaign (with a few generic missions regularly you can play to fuck around and level guys), the limited fixed troop pool, and the very strong fixed aesthetics (you are exclusively 90smaxxed Ultramarines fighting the Word Bearers).

It's nice you can zoom in and out of battles, I like how it looks, if you speed up all the animations in settings the game doesn't feel too stiff. You can optimise it to shit with saving, loading, and meta-knowledge like all linear old school strategy campaign games. I just played it a little to fuck around, knowing winning would be a foregone conclusion if I just learned the early few levels and powerlevelled some squads of guys into beasts.

I prefer playing with unfamiliar stuff in ROSIGMA until I suffer an obscene defeat to something insane. If you want a more focused game you can master and win Chaos Gate is fine.

Oh, it also crashes regularly. Mind that.

Be aggressive and mobile. The vehicle+mobile infantry can cover a lot of ground and kill on their own. Just run around the edges with them. Deploying armored infantry will draw the enemies attention. Then you kill them with the next unit.

I never bothered with them anyway. Cover is nice, but not nearly as important in this game. Good armor and deploying is king. You take no damage even without cover.

I don't really mind women and colored but the fixed characters are the problem in two ways
one the starting pool is limited(4 from 7) and their perk trees are fixed, the amount of them is also small(EA supposedly will have around 26 characters), that is small amount, little diversity especially with hard divide between drivers and infantry
the other thing is that they constantly yap and are insufferable, their voice lines are limited and over all they are annoying
6 characters in demo only two are pretty pleasant to listen - the black chick and ginger, the pike and lim are meh, the sj and reva are just cunts, now that usually would not bother me but considering that you will only have limited leaders during single run(like around 12) and there will be only 26 in general - that suck
would much more prefer if you have big pool of leaders at last 50 to 70, bigger starting options and or ability to create some(local version of IMP from JA)
