Where are my Icewind Dale bros?
>>
How does Icewind Dale differ from Baldur's Gate?
>>
>>722320056
No gay story to interrupt your dungeon crawl. You make your party and go kill stuff.
>>
>>722320020
I'm stroking my shit here in Kuldahar.
>>
>>722320056
It's mostly a dungeon crawl. You'll be blowing up a bunch of skeles with fire balls and such. There's one town you always return to, everywhere else is for you to adventure in. Also scrolls are a bit more limited so you might want to split up what kind of spell casters you have.
>>
>>722320056
Dumbed down story, uninteresting characters, it's basically a DnD "strategy" game
>>
>>722320056
A lot of combat, it's kinda ez though compared to bg2, focused linear story with sidequests, NPCs don't talk much, pretty good variety of environments/visuals despite being snow-based.

IWD2 is one of my favorite games.
Recently made it through the Underdark. Playing the Enhanced mod. I don't know what Stunned my wizard whenever the fight started, but once I somehow managed to avoid it, the fight go tremendously easier.
Now, in Kuldahar, there is a shit ton of undead awaiting the landing side. Didn't remember this fight being so difficult.

I never played IWD2. What's so great about it?
>>
>>722320812
Gay sex side stories.

That one is controversial, but the party building is much better. Thanks to being 3e, you get much more classes, feats, exotic races like drow and deep gnomes. Controversial, because someone will come scream at me saying that builds are for trannies and only 2e is the true white man's game.
3e indeed has its issues, but it's not much of a problem in video games
I can spend hours just thinking about creating groups in this game. Thematic groups, silly groups, powergaming groups. Anything.
Aside from that, it's more of the same, bigger. Some pacing issues, but also some really great encounters and strong areas. There is also a very neat reactivity based on classes on races (more so at the start of the game). Maybe standard these days, but pretty cool back then.
>>722320878
I was right.
>>
>>722320812
It's pretty high powered and you have a lot of build freedom, it's one of the only games with full 3E-style multiclassing with subraces and shit.
>>
>>722320056
Multiplayer is more advisable for IWD. Your party consists of player-made characters only, making single-player seem a bit quiet and lonely once the dungeon-delving begins. Taking a friend gives you someone to banter with.

It's story and characters are unironically better BG, because you create them.
I autistically RP'd this game hard.
I made a my party a death cult of Lawful Evil mercs, no woman allowed only lads. And I spent hours customising their backstory and portraits.

I have never been so attached to characters in a game.

>muh no women, headstory backstory
>roleplaying
>>
Yea I play tons of the second one. Anyone got any meme team compositions(like 6 invisible druids casting Call Lightning on the map)
>>
>>722327710
>its not roleplaying if I cant make my dollie kiss the devs dollie
>>
>>722320056
It's the same but there's no companions and no cool evil wizard in BDSM gear antagonist
>>
anyone tried it with SCS? apparently new versions put in Rest restrictions, but I still have to try it in IWD
>>
>>722327710
That's how roleplaying works, yes. There is a fair question as to how much the game let's you roleplay within the systems and narrative provided, but it all stems from the idea of making your own character, with their own story and history and playing accordingly.
>>
>>722327918
Not the most massive meme, but I once made a group without any dedicated caster. Paladin, Fighter, Ranger, Rogue, Monk, Barbarian. All male, only the most stereotypical race-combinations.
Worked surprisingly well, though I relied a lot on potions. More than usual. Which was fun.

>>722320056
More linear, no story, ooga booga hit thing, get thing, move to other thing

I replayed the game 2 years ago with five fighter builds and one paladin. The only problem I had was with that multi armed snake woman.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Icewind_Dale#Plot
than what is this?
>>
>>722320812
>great
more thought out combat encounter challenges, tons of enemy variety
actual builds since it's 3e
more classes and abilities
imho much more densely packed maps
art
music
>no so great
no real expansion, you only get the base campaign
entire sections of the game are underbaked and boring (forest, fire lord realm) and some are gauntlets that also get some hate (frost temple, raven monastery) though I personally only have gripes with the former
>>
>>722320020
My favorite infinity engine game, anon. I love how there's minimal story to get in the way of adventuring and combat. Icewind Dale 2 dropped the ball there, trying to do too much.
