>>722341530Neat. I look forward to seeing that in the next update.
/v/, please help me. My game is almost done (like 99% done). When should I release it? Sometime in october or november?

Gotta update our games on Steam cause of the RCE. Thanks Unity.
>>722347658This is the requirement for the spin-off show which I do not run. The other organizer records the show onto a VHS and then rips the playback to have an authentic VHS stream so that's why he requires it to be in 4x3

>>722349510They did and we're testing if nothing broke right now. I can't imagine Valve has the manpower to fix and test every game, they already patched Steam to try to stop any shenanigans. I don't think they even have a way of knowing which Unity games are affected.

>>722339901The absolute state of FOSSTARDS
>>722360081who?
>>722339901Since i was reconstructing the skeleton before moving on with animations i added 3 cohesive armor sets into the game. I came up with a less creative but vastly more streamlined way of mixing and matching the various meshes. Im also changing the default set to something simpler as well.
>>722361792love the colors and design of that armor set! good job man
>>722361884Thanks man, I really hate blender so much lol. I ended up using the same chainmail pants for all sets with different materials for each. That way I keep 1 in blender and attach boots to it lined up correctly. The gauntlets and chestpiece are easy enough but this way everything stop clipping. I also changed the style of armor to rest naturally at an a pose as I noticed t pose models were getting badly deformed.
on my side, I've integrated the facial expressions inside Godot. Was quite simple by just adjusting the material's UV offset like some anon suggested. Also for some reason my dude's face reminds me of Robot Chicken, but I might just be going insane.>>722362132I don't want to imagine how hard it must be to make a lot of armor pieces be compatible with a custom character. You are making great progress man, keep it up!
>>722362298and here's how it's setup: I made a new type of node named FacialExpressions. I feed it with the meshInstance3D and the dimensions of the texture sheet for facial expressions, then set them by doing calls like the one on the left, first parameter being the surface (eyes or mouth) and the second one, the index of the expression. This allows me to use facial expressions on the player, npcs and any enemies that might require them with 0 copy&pasted code. I'll probably just map those to some constant so I don't have to write a call for each animation.
>>722360081Looks like the openfront guy was just trying to cash in on free labour, what a dumbass
>>722362298Trying to merge verticies can sometime be more of a headache so i will at times rely on weight paint and small overlap to keep things clean. It is a bit cheaty but it works. The facial expression rocks! Really cool using uv offset in that way too.
>>722362819yeah, but instead someone else cashed in on his free labour. Btw should I add some kind of license shit to my game's page, or is it implied that my shit is mine unless stated otherwise?
>>722363458As long as you dont accept an open source license you can consider it private. But you also need to consider whatever you use to make anything, like any software, what their license includes for you.
>>722363458The basics are that you have automatic copyright and licensing is to give rights to *others* so you don't need to put one if you have no intention of letting others use your work. Of course do a little of your own research, no reason to take some anon at their word.
>>722363810>>722363908thanks anons>Of course do a little of your own research, no reason to take some anon at their wordsounds like the right thing to do yeah, I'll look into it. And I mean actually looking into it, not asking some IA and taking it's answer like an absolute truth like some retards do.
I'm cobbling together what's left of the changes for probably the last meaningful update. I set up some optional onscreen controls to make the game more playable on vertical touchscreens for maybe a mobile port. I'm worried that the buttons aren't big enough or that the black space will look like shit on a phone screen, but I'll get there when I actually set up a testing environment for that.
>>722363995Yes AI would probably give you a tard answer. It also depends on what your goals are. If you want the full game studio name, trademarks, the works, you can get pretty lost in the weeds with llcs, registered trademarks, but it gives you privileges like enhanced lawsuit power over your own shit and protecting your personal assets by separating you, the person, from the game.
>>722364026cool for android. will it then be playable on chinkheld?
>>722364026that's very cool anon. Also I love the little screwdriver on the side of the options panel.
>>722364329You mean those steam deck adjacent emulation devices? Don't those normally run Linux? It already runs on Linux natively, but this should make it playable for anything running on android or without actual buttons on the device.>>722364340thanks gamer, that's very kind
>>722364649no, i meant those android-based emulation devices. judging by your answer it's probably fine

>>722367998He's right that it's really hard to get people to care even if you have something that's pretty "good." ("good" in quotes because there's so much subjectivity, perhaps you have something great but it's a genre with few people interested) But it's not impossible and giving up is a bitch move.

i really wish that I didn't stop development, I had a good prototype going. I had collision down, movement, room changing, enemies, spells, mana, health, bullets, charged bullets, etc. The big holdup for me was making a kind of map editor so that I could manually place/delete blocks on maps, save them down, and use it at runtime. Also, I wanted to have smooth animation and pixel art, but I have zero artistic skills. Still, I got pretty far. At that time there were some other anons on /v/ making some AMAZING 2d art that I really wanted to emulate for my game.
>>722346959Looks good, I'd like to see a webm of this.
>>722339901How do I get into making skyboxes?
>>722373274That looks cute and fun. Level editors are always worth it in my opinion, even if they take some time to finish. It makes the eventual level making process a lot more enjoyable.
>>722374578Go outside and take a picture.
>>722374679>Level editors are always worth it in my opinionfor sure, 100%. I could just never quite wrap my head around writing and reading everything from jsons in c++. I think the art and the animation problem would have been much easier to solve, if only I had overcome the json issues
>>722351574This is what I thought from the trailer. On phone so can't play demo.>ZamN cloneSeems too grounded but not gritty. Nor is it cartoony for a ZamN clone.Doesn't look distinct enough, all the monsters are just dull green and one bright green. The park area looks too open. Add more obstacles and the ability for you and monsters to vault over them. Make the guns more unique. Cram real prototype guns together like a gyrojet plus something and change the sounds up.Listen to the FTL game soundtrack(or something else you like) and add one sound from the hostile sectors to each song.
>>722374773>jsonYou could also use a plain text file. Being able to read the data like this is also very useful and whatever performance penalties will likely not matter with modern hardware.
>>722342448Built for omo
>>722374916>json or txtwouldn't they both be pretty functionally similar? The main issue for me was always targeting the file to read relative to the executable. With AI being so much more popular and powerful now it would probably be way easier to find solutions, but back then I was asking on /g/ where people were pretty unhelpful (or worse than I at coding)
>>722369693Good night, thanks for keeping these threads bumped.
>>722374773>tiled levels>jsonwtf, why. just store the room data in a 2D array.
>>722375912I was thinking of storing it like this
>>722375120I could tell you if you're using electron, but yeah AI can do it too I bet.
>>722376372again, if you intend to do tiled levels with no overlaps, the simplest approach is storing all tiles in a 2D array of IDs where each ID can be mapped to blocks of different textures, enemies and so on.storing that shit is then super simple because you can just write the entire array as raw data (if you have variable room sizes, store two ints for lengths).the overworld can be yet another 2d arr where you store the offsets for each room.for even simpler storing, make em 1D arrays and just imagine the splits between each lane.
>>722377919so rather than having the three different arrays for blocks, enemies, and entrances, just have it be an x/y coordinate, and then an identifying number for what to spawn? so like 1 block, 2 ghost, 3 entrance, 0 for empty, etc, and then fill it into the relevant array for the runtime? ie blocks for collision detection, enemies for moving around, etc
>>722378253yup. also makes the editor braindead simple cuz it's just paint with tiles.
>>722378253You don't need to store an x/y coordinate. Just the width and height of your map, and width*height tile type IDs (numbers). It's fine to make the map dense, because you're hand making it, anything you hand make will be small enough to not matter when it comes to file size in this context. If the size does seem to big, you can just zip it up and it will compress extremely well.
I've been keeping this character a secret for a long time! This is Fygoon's Horrible Ex who left him for General Grex! She's a tramp (but you can see why Joey would go for her, look at that body!). Is it bad to have bad voice acting? And when does bad voice acting become so bad it's good/funny?SF64 had horrid voice work yet is still one of the most memorable and quotable games in history. Then you have games like Resident Evil and the 5th gen Mega Man games, among many others, all enjoyable despite being bad. Then you have awful ones like FFX, Hogwarts Legacy, that one NBA game, that are just awful with almost nothing worth noting. Where's the line? I ask because my game is going to have lots of voice acting, but I don't want to shell out tons of money for "professionals" when I get to that point.

>>722390363I think the age of the game plays a bit part to it. Also goes if you're trying to ape the style of games of that era. If you're going for something more modern you might need to ease people into the bad acting, if anything at least make the audio sound good.

Are there any up-to-date tutorials for Gamemaker 2? I think Heartbeast's can be a bit outdated now.
>>722405738Anything specific or do you just watch tutorials with no goal in mind?
>>722405738You really don't need a tutorial. Just think of what you want to do, think of steps you might need to take (e.g. to move a character you need to check if a button is pressed, and change position if so), and if you don't know how to do a particular step you google how to do it.
Irrlicht is a comfy engine. If you're aiming for late-90s/early-2000s graphics and are thinking about enginedevving, consider modifying Irrlicht instead of starting from scratch.>C++>just a small-medium sized library, not a behemoth that takes over your entire codebase and build system>importers for Quake maps and various model formats of that era>look around the forums and you'll find third-party loaders for other formats like GLTF>basic collision detection and convenient related features e.g. efficient triangle picking>lots of examples>built around fixed-function pipelines, but some support for shadersKeep in mind, it's more-or-less a dead project. There's one guy still adding to it (using SVN of all things) but he doesn't really have enough time. You should assume that the codebase you fetch from 1.9 trunk is all you'll get. It still uses SDL1 and D3D9, and only recently dropped Windows 98 support. But because it's relatively small and simple, this isn't really a problem in the same way it would be for a bigger engine. It's feasible to fork and maintain it and most projects do that. Some of these forks (like minetest) are open source and can be used for reference.Realistically you should expect to need to heavily modify it. So far I've>stripped out all its makefiles and replaced them with CMake>reorganised the codebase a bit>updated the SDL1 "driver" (irrlicht's term for platform backend) to SDL3>removed all the other non-SDL backends>fixed some issues with windowed mouselook>removed the DX9 renderer, leaving only the OpenGL 2.x oneMy next step will be to write a new renderer using a modern graphics RHI. bgfx and Diligent Engine are contenders but I'll probably go with SDL GPU, because I've played with it before and I'm already using SDL3. When that's done, I should be able to build for Windows+Mac+Linux+iOS+Android. There are also NDA console backends for SDL3+SDLGPU which would be useful if I later want to do a Switch port or something.
>>722406221Whole series would be nice as refresher, but I would like something about saving and loading specifically. The month to work on spooky stuff
>>722411473Take a look at Monster Hunter. They've got a pretty good spread from "literally just a color change" to new creatures that are just barely related, and it actually adds to the fantasy because all the creatures obviously place on an evolutionary tree. There's also various other cheap tricks you can employ, color is just the one that's been available for the longest time. Different textures, sizes, sounds, putting on various extra bits like horns or armor. You could even get the player to like that the enemies are reused by making that an active part of gameplay. The obvious thing would be "+5% damage to goblins", but maybe instead your goblins carry around bombs that the player can use, or special golden version of enemies that drop a lot more gold then usual.
>>722411473People are expecting 235 now. Pack it up if you think 10 enemies and 5 recolors is anywhere close to adequate.
I spent the whole week trying to make some tiles that look good and failing miserably. I´ts clear to me having some skill in character design doesn´t translate that well into environment design>>722391737This is cool. Great progress
>>722412301Even Silksong is full of recolors though. You've got all the different variants of pilgrims, which are so similar that there's a quest that involves stealing their cloaks, which swaps one sprite for another, since the cloak is the only difference. And honestly a lot of Silksong enemies are the worst kind of "enemy variant" where it's a completely redrawn sprite that has no behavioral differences from any other sprites that match it. How many>it just sort of flies toward youenemies are there in the game, 10? 11? You've got two separate enemies that are literally nothing but a pit hazard with some context given if you throw a bomb into it.Don't get me wrong, Silksong is awesome, but the enemy variety in Silksong is just an aesthetic flex. It's a way of making areas feel unique by giving them unique inhabitants. Mechanically it only has like 5 or 6 actual enemy types. Notwithstanding the bosses of course.
>>722411519It's not actually multiplayer but there's a lot of stuff happening to sync the city up between players, including daily price/market multipliers for different things and the gang territories behaving according to the state of the gang war meter which is online and synced for everybody (if you're playing with an internet connection)Btw seriously HUGE thanks for playing dude

>>722411914Can pick them up and toss them now
>>722414213Honestly here? Nothing. If it was aaa studio, it isnt one at all. It looks like the character is getting launched up then gently floats down. If we are going by outerspace rules, the gentle float makes sense. Normally with locomotion states you have a beginning, apex, land, then recover. So you break up your jump animation 4 times, so if you fall you don't just freeze but there is an animation happening until you collide with the ground.
>>722414509>complaining about how the gear system makes all of the player characters feel like functionally the same character>game is still 93% positive on Steam
>>722414798You can also get very good results using a linear blend with an axis that tracks vertical speed. At max upward speed you have "start jump", at zero you have "peak jump", and at max downward speed you have "fall pose". Because jumping naturally follows a parabolic arc under all conditions (assuming you aren't doing super weird shit) the pose will never be static, at least until the player reaches terminal velocity (and if this is something that can realistically happen in your game, you can use loops rather than poses in the blend so that your character has some motion during long falls)
>>722342448awesome, post more
>>722415073There’s another repetitive enemy complaint so it’s not hard to find these>But the game did good so everything it does is right! The brand and the company did good. Indies are when the customer suddenly decides to be honest and critical about games.
>>722415669>But the game did good so everything it does is right!Disingenuous, basically every game that exists would benefit from more content. You can point to literally any game anywhere, ever, and say>it would be objectively better with more levels/weapons/enemies/missions/charactersand it will always be true. More of a good thing is always better. I haven't met the game yet that made me go "this would be so fucking awesome if it just had less stuff in it".When evaluating complaints of sameness, the question becomes "when does the limited pool of assets hurt the quality of the game in such a way that it detracts from the enjoyment of what else is there". A game with Too Few enemies/levels/etc doesn't get a chance to shine mechanically because there are too few unique problems to solve with the tools at the player's disposal. When the limited pool of assets actively DETRACTS from the core experience, rather than simply not giving the player yet another serving of it, that's when the line has been crossed IMO.TFD has just enough enemies that it can create a broad variety of encounters that are interesting. Most of the "samey-ness" complaints about the game have to do with the extremely limited map, because a big part of wandering around in a large game is seeing the sights and when you always see the same sights, wandering loses its charm. TFD was "open world" but the world was small and highly similar so it never really felt like it.
>>722415984>More of a good thing is always betterNo. Even a very long game filled with good content will get exhausting.
>>722415984>I haven't met the game yet that made me go "this would be so fucking awesome if it just had less stuff in it"There are lots of games that drag on and overstay their welcome. RPGs can suffer from this a lot. One example I can remember were the terrible new sidequests in Chrono Trigger DS.
>>722416526Maybe it’s a function of the types of games I play but I equate “overstayed its welcome” with being repetitive. When it’s not NEW content, it’s the same stuff I’ve already seen and done, but I’m doing it for the 20th time, and its detracting from the enjoyment that I got from my earlier experience as a result.

>>722407023I tried looking into irrlicht and idk what the point is. Seems like a third-party add-on nightmare. I don't even think it natively supports shadowmapping. And I gave up when I tried to use some gltf add-on and it didn't support mesh-skinning / animation. I'm too stupid to do these things myself and I feel like there are better modern options. Sure irrlicht is lightweight, but that's because it does almost nothing. It's more like a scene handler with barebones rendering. Also is gltf the only option for skeleton animation? There is fbx but it's some licensed autodesk proprietary garbage. Idk how they animated back before skeletons with just .obj and .x but it seems archaic. And like you say it uses SDL1. Not even SDL2. What a nightmare. This thing is way too old. I think it would be easier to start from scratch instead of learning someone else's code.

But it's functional (can load a Quake level, add some meshes, move around with WASD+mouselook) and it's compact enough that I can just rip and tear away at it to turn it into what I need.>And like you say it uses SDL1. >>722423461>do i have to code fbx importers and animation tools by handYes, in the sense that the stock engine can only import obsolete formats and has very minimal mesh animation support. No, in the sense that you probably wouldn't be coding them completely from scratch. More likely you'd find an outdated and buggy fbx importer someone wrote 10 years ago and fix/update/adapt it to do what you need. It's not an alternative to Godot/Unity. It's an alternative to starting from scratch. In my case my game will mostly involve exploring a static world in first person while interacting with either static objects, objects with basic rigid animations like doors, or physics objects. I do need character animation but it's not a priority and it's OK for it to be basic/janky. So my priorities are probably different from someone making a third person character action game.

Your intelligent thoughts on how to go about sex simulation?I'll go full autism with the realistic cell physics and stretching despite the programming side not requiring more than a location and said location detecting how much % the object is covering the location, not even accounting for inertia for the thrust, let alone the blood and lube required for stretching the epithelial cells, let alone the clit and neurology involved. That's the interaction part that porn games never attempt, also because I want different shaped objects to react automatically and intuitively with what goes inside it rather than having to program every single 1%, 0.5%, 0.1%, 5% you get the idea, that shit should be automatic.Any thoughts on the simulation of it, anons? SDT did it simple with the locations, no physics simulation beyond the spit and cum hanging out which I think was already precoded and preavailable in flash. The next problem though is the limited audio & visuals. You can give any person endless pleasure, but if said person sits there like a dead-eyed fish you don't even know if its alive or not then it's no fun. You need endless exciting reactions and interactions with said person to make an interesting and entertaining simulation. You can use AI, but again if you're a perfectionist like me you'll waste time creating masks and layers for everything to add lipstick coloration, skin colors, hair color, eyeshadow color, tattoos and AI can't even do layers atm, that's why everyone is absolutely correct that it's useless, especially if you have to yell at it 20x times "Just do it" instead of IT understanding what it has to do and coming back to it 20 minutes later with all your

>>722410741Modern GPU architecture wouldn’t really benefit from it, so probably not. Typically the main reason for employing LODs is to reduce overdraw by eliminating subquad triangles (GPUs can only parallelize rasterization of 2x2 pixel quads, if two or more tris occupy the same quad they must be processed in series which is a bottleneck). That’s a function of triangle density vs size on screen, it doesn’t matter whether the entire screen is a perfectly carpeted sheet of triangles or two massive triangles forming a screen-size quad. Why do you want an algo to do this? Because the only time total vertex count really starts to be an issue on its own is computing bone transforms and there ARE algos for scaling down by number of rigs rendered on screen, IIRC.

Still, I struggle a lot when I have to refactor someone else's code, and I would have to add a lot of stuff to irrlicht.I prefer Raylib because it's like the same thing but more modern. And supports very basic gltf animation (one skeleton structure, linear interpolation only). The lack of good animation support is a dealbreaker in a lot of my searches. I might need to consider a separate library. Haven't done enough research but ozz-animation looks good. Even calculates IK.

>>722461876He's been posting about this "game" for over 2 years now. We're never gonna be free from this insanity.
>>722461881Wrong, it was Caspar Al-Wasq, as can be seen below:> The discovery of the Lynxstone begins during just after the discovery of Frydar Island. As the members of the Dragons’ Alliance began to chart the new land, a group of Felids under the Order of the Claw happened upon a then undiscovered cave in the Saidros Tundra region. One of the Felids on this mission was Caspar Al-Wasq, a Lynx assassin with a penchant for gemstones. While Al-Wasq and the Felids charted the cave, the Lynx tripped and fell. Surprised by the commotion, the other Felids rushed to their teammate’s aid deep in the cave. Upon finding Al-Wasq, the Felids found him surveying something peculiar in his hand: a shadow with seemingly no object casting it. Al-Wasq explained to the other Felids that this was a gemstone that, when in close proximity to an object with magical energy (such as the magic lanterns the Golems had lent them), the stone almost completely disappears. Skeptical of such a story, the Felids led Al-Wasq out of the cave as they believed he suffered from a concussion from his fall; however, once they reached the outside and closed their lanterns, an amber stone faded into existence in the hand of the Lynx. Awestruck at such a momentous discovery, the Felids named this stone the Gem of Al-Wasq in honor of its discoverer, with the name Lynxstone being used to describe similar specimens.Only the first question and you're already fucking up, huh? Now answer this:What did Menahem Pratemus, the Dragon founder of Pratemus Village, like to collect?
