XP had the most soul of any rpg maker, but was maybe a bit too rigid.

VXAce was probably the best overall,

FFXIV didn't suddenly get horrible mechanically, it got horrible story and world wise and it NUKED the playerbase
WoW has been steadily getting worse story and world wise while bleeding players and positive mechanical changes haven't affected the player count, only made the existing players happier
you would need multiple dozens of writers working not only together from a foundational corpus but also maintaining the relevant writing style
that's a potentially impossible undertaking with the state of many modern writers who are obsessed with being unique and quirky and so can't work in groups to create a common, unitary project
you would need to convince actual writers who can write within an existing framework co-operatively, like ghostwriters for long-running series to join your dev team

What the fuck are you talking about? The reason why WoW was so good when it came out was because of how massive and immersive the world felt and how many things there were to do. No game up until then had anywhere near that much content in it. By today's standards it just feels small and repetitive. What I said is that a new MMO would need to have 10x more quests but also 10x more variety in its quests. Today's technology allows for extremely large open world games that could feel like actual living worlds if enough work was put into populating them with characters and things to do. With the budget of something like GTA 6 you could do exactly that.

there is so much stuff that is just objectively terrible out of the box with RPG Maker.
Like the Character Generator they started including. Its ugly, its limited, its hard to expand. it just feels like there hasn't been any significant usability enhancements since vx ace, except for scripting. And If I wanted to script everything I wouldn't be using a purpose built tool for making simple RPGs.

Depending on combo of personality + traits + relationship they can stay in town after growing up and help grow your orphanage further. Depending on your choices you can end up with an ubermench training camp, a chinese dark factory, youth correctional facility, or a disney happy ending New Home.

Include Rimworld logic so making a happy orphanage is exponentially harder than performing horrific crimes against children to keep the house functioning. But if you're not careful then children may escape and either report you to the authorities or come back years later, seeking revenge personally.

2k3 is amazing but held back by low resolution and players requiring to install the RPGmaker RTP.
XP had one of the nicest default asset libraries but not much else. The combat system took a massive hit.
VXAce is still goated, only marred by the sheer amount of shovelware it produced.
I like MV/MZ because you can export to web and have high resolution graphics and also the plugins you can find online are really good.

I have 2 main dreams. 1 is an open world pirate rpg with black flags ship mechanics (multiplayer open world optimally but not necessarily) without the assassin stuff and with rpg quests, factions, custom characters, ship roster with customization and different ship types.

The second idea is an elder scrolls type game in a custom setting I’ve been thinking about which is based on pre Christian western and eastern Europe with cultures based on Germanic tribes, Slavs, Celts. Super authentic material culture vibe with mystical elements and real mythology. No Rome shit all barbarian mythos. It’s extremely grounded looking while being completely fantastical in the way pagan myths are.

Stealth explore /ss/ game with set women and if one of your characters gets caught, you take control of another one. The set woman who caught your shota is busy fucking him and no longer patrolling, so you need to return and double-team her to knock her out and get the character back.

The goal of the game is to rescue your other shota friends in a similar manner, effectively getting more "lives" as a result, and make your way to the exit.

Use the Outrun courses map as the basis for a JRPG that has a time looping mechanic. If you look at the courses map, each route could be a town, and making choices in that town could determine where you need to head next. Using a time loop mechanic, you could restart if you fail to complete a loop, or restart once finishing a route, to try and get every ending. Obviously you could apply the same principle idea to other genres too.
