>>722341015easy game
Here’s a TL;DR of that rant:Started off loving Silksong’s difficulty because it felt fair and rewarding. But around chapter 2, the game design starts feeling cheap and frustrating—tankier enemies with unfair patterns, annoying gauntlets, visibility issues, and restrictive mechanics—making the fun challenge feel more like a chore.Do you want me to make it even shorter, like a one-liner summary?
The developers are genuinely talented, but they don't have restraint. Like Hollow Knight Silksong is held back by how badly it wants to be Dark Souls. There's no one thing. It's a bunch of smaller, cumulative things. Everything's been SLIGHTLY overtuned to be fucking obnoxious. You just know a developer went through these otherwise great parts thinking:>This boss is great but it's not PREPARE TO DIE™ enough, let's give it 50% more HP and another couple of flying, dodging, blocking adds!>This bit is hazardous and rewarding, but it's not PREPARE TO DIE™ enough, let's add an offscreen boulder!>The player will be doing this runback a few times, but it's too fast and convenient, DEFINITELY not PREPARE TO DIE™ enough. Better add some obnoxious outcroppings and some spikes at the bottom of pits so they must do it SLOWLY instead of QUICKLY!>This FLOOR IS LAVA gauntlet isn't PREPARE TO DIE™ enough, how can I fix that? Oh I know, let's add a lip at the top so there's less real estate to wall-jump in, with the added bonus of making the player glance off it and fall into the lava if they try to dash back to the wall from the wrong height!>This rising lava chase isn't PREPARE TO DIE™ enough, let's put a path to the right that's a complete dead end and hope the player panics under time pressure and just gets killed!>Leeches prevent you from healing and take 9 silk to dislodge? That's not PREPARE TO DIE™ enough, let's make them DRAIN silk too! I used the words "bad faith" but I don't think genuinely spiteful. I think they believe they're doing the player a favor. We're supposed to respond to the troll shit with "Haha, you got me! Oh you! I guess I'd better git gudder, huh?" when really it's just AMAZINGLY fucking tedious. And the most frustrating thing that it's a genuinely great game that is fantastic in every other respect. They just took that great game and decided to push everything a FRACTION too far until the player just isn't having fun anymore.
>>722341108Thanks for the valuable service AI-kun. Can you TL;DR my follow up post? >>722341630 I had it edit it down to get it beneath 2000 characters but it's still really big.
>>722341015Part of the package is tedium. Honestly the only thing I'd change is how flying enemies dash away from you, once you get the hook shot upgrade they're very easy, until then it's like dealing with irl flies
>>722341071I wouldn't go that far but I don't care that it's hard, I care that it's annoying
>>722341991>Honestly the only thing I'd change is how flying enemies dash away from youThat alone would instantly make the game infinitely betterIt's not so bad once in a while but it doesn't need to be EVERY flying enemy (which seem to make up a good 50% of the total foes in the game)
>>722342220Get used to dash attacking midair
>>722343897I do when there's solid ground beneath me, but if I'm over lava or spikes it's not really a good ideaAdmittedly though, I'm still getting used to how incredibly useful harpoon is in those situations. It's a fantastic movement tool, I think I have a mental block about using it because it costs (1) silk so I think of it as a spell to be used sparingly
I'm probably making things harder for myself by using wanderer but I dont care, it feels the best to me. I guess I'm not alone in finding the flying enemies annoying. It would be stupid for them to not avoid you at all but the way they rubber band away from you is infuriating.I would guess the developers didnt want people bouncing on the enemies as much as they did in the original game but like fuck that is the intuitive thing to do.
>>722341630>This rising lava chase isn't PREPARE TO DIE™ enough, let's put a path to the right that's a complete dead end and hope the player panics under time pressure and just gets killedOnce again, I guess I wasnt the only one kek. And the worst part is too I actually beat the enemies and made it back there on my first try and got trolled by the dead end. Then it took many attempts to actually even beat the enemies again. I got kinda mad.
>>722347443Clawline is your friend
>>722347829Yeah I really need to start using it more. I did the coral kaizo area last night and that helped me start to build the habit.
>>722347984One of my few gripes with the game is that a player taking their time is going to get clawline after 10-20 hours of getting used to dash attacks and weaving in and out of enemy range. It's such a powerful and flexible tool that I get putting it in Act 2, but it does mean integrating it into your habits is hard.
>>722341015>(but I bitched about that yesterday)so its just one guy spamming these threads?
>>722341071How do you guys take 70+ hours?
>>722347443>I would guess the developers didnt want people bouncing on the enemies as much as they did in the original game but like fuck that is the intuitive thing to do.It doesn't really accomplish that anyway, since when you do get above them you can still basically pogo infinitely. It makes it even weirded that every other aspect of the game is so carefully overtuned
>>722347443what are you talking about? wanderer is the dedicated easymode crest, its by far the most busted
>>722341015>>get partway through chapter 2>>suddenly everything seems full of bad faith, trolling design specifically intended to piss the player offwait til you get to act 3!
>>722348185I have made two whole threads, anon
>>722341630the game was barely playtested (and what playtesting did exist was presumably the same people playing the game for 7 years straight) and it shows. if nothing else, silksong is a fantastic argument for the positive effects of playtesting, betas, focus groups and whatever other player feedback. the game is like 80% of the way there and it just needed some people who werent numb to it after 7 years to come in and point out the obvious tedium to get it the rest of the way
>>722348350>wait til you get to act 3!THAT'S WHAT I WAS AFRAID OF
>>722348616whatever complaints you have with act 2 will be multiplied hundredfold in act 3. even just in unlocking act 3, if you havent been keeping up with quests as you play
>>722341630>Leeches prevent you from healing and take 9 silk to dislodge? That's not PREPARE TO DIE™ enough, let's make them DRAIN silk too!It wasn't even apparent to me that there was a way to get rid of the leeches by collecting silk, which is hard when the enemies throw things at you and fly, or deal two damage and take forever to hit. I just stopped playing after I got to Sinner's Road because my bullshit-o-meter was going off.
>>722348535It was playtested, however the aussies didn't care about those shitters' feedbacks. I SAY BASED. fuck em. fuck it, make it harder. the shitter should be put in their place
What Silksong really needs are Wystone mechanics.
>>722341015https://voca.ro/16K55CefJM9L
>>722348350>>722348616>>722348730Act 3 is nowhere near that bad. Unlocking act 3, sure, that felt like a slog sometimes. Enemy buffs, whatever. But the bossfights in act 3 are more forgiving in that they all have shorter runbacks and four of them take no resources from you and don't count as deaths if you die.
>>722348753Yeah, you just heal to get rid of them, but you don't actually get the health restoration from it. It's a cool idea but since it's so long before you can heal again AND your silk is actively draining, if you're low on health it basically boils down to "welp, better take the death and start over>>722348730I'm good on the quests so far, I didn't feel motivated to learn the cogwork dancers so I've been doing basically everything else instead
>>722349056I'm sorry, Hornet. I'll try harder.
>>722341630i love silksong to beats and i will defend it against retarded criticism about muh hard, but there's definitely some bullshit that alone doesn't warrant much but that is frequent enough and i think this post is fair. this is the sort of bullshit that many people can look past but others can't and it's hard to blame them, whereas if they ironed this stuff out it would legitimately not bother anyone.most of this doesn't really actively bother me, but there are OTHER kinda annoying bullshit, like the flying enemy AI being incredibly annoying to deal with since they always fly juuuust out of reach from you but also actively chase you down.
>>722349091I dunno, the Ant boss gauntlet felt really petty and tedious
>>722341015stop complaining, install a mod to make the game easier, and enjoy the game again
>>722349651it's extremely short, honestly it bothered me less than the mini gauntlet before traitor lord. then again i had an almost fully upgraded needle and i had already kind of nailed down killing normal ant enemies really quickly.
>>722349110I'm familiar with a similar mechanic from another game where you had to fight off a disease (by attacking the boss more) that would make it so that you lost more health from attacks if you failed or make your attacks hit harder if you succeeded, to add incentive to more aggressive gameplay, but if it halted healing ability altogether I'd have been so pissed.
>>722349314Thanks for the considered response anon, for what it's worth I still really like it a lot too, it's just getting frustrating more often and for longer periods of time>>722349804I don't want to cheat, I want to git gud but also bitch about the annoying parts
>>722349314flying? never heard of itt. reaperchad
>>722349904>it's extremely short,Yeah, that's the issue, why does it even exist? It's too easy to be a challenge, I didn't even need to bother dodging to start the boss fight at full hp and silk, since it's basically act 1 enemies when you have a maxed out needleIs the boss easier to balance for the gauntlet, like the coral tower? No, not really the boss itself is the real challengeIt exists to waste your time and that's it, a extremely petty time waster
>the leechesI just assumed you were kinda fucked. I guess I should have tried healing but its not like I had the silk to be able to do so. I would just run back to bench in Greymoor and start over it I even got leeched. When I limped over to the map lady with a single HP left, leeched, no silk, paid for the bench and the mechanism jammed, I almost uninstalled the game.
>>722350084I'm a fellow reaper lover, but WHY does it have this FUCKING upward swing
>>722341015Man, just what is it with all these Indians and their complaining about Silksong? Why did this game filter them so fucking hard?

>>722348296Oh is it? Okay never mind then. I just chose it because it felt the most like OG hollow knight.
>>722350045at least i can say that most of my bigger complaints about the balancing especially in act 1 were patched out so it seems like they were serious enough for the devs to agree on it, which were money being too scarce in the early (though they didn't entirely fix it but still, some things were made cheaper) and stage hazards and some regular enemies doing double damage for arbitrary reasons.>>722350084beast crest rapes flying enemies.>>722350405i always took these as part of the boss battle itself, though i get people feeling the tedium. the only one that was horseshit was groal's because the runback is already egregious enough where it takes just under a minute if you go quickly and don't take damage and don't fall onto shit water and don't miss in the vertical platforming section and don't grab silk from the secret room before the arena.
>>722350691people like genuine difficulty more than they like tedium
>>722350798So why do they (you) dislike Silksong then?

Trying to 100% the game on your own is complete bullshit. The game should mark rooms you have completed on the map instead of making you check every wall in every room by running into it and hitting it. The quick travel system is shit because you'll spend hours watching the animation going to Grand Bellway and the fucking elevator and elevator to Grand Bellway. The needolin song that brings you to the last quick travel spot you visited should just open a list of all the options in either quick travel system and let you select which you want right there. The game is full of tedious bullshit designed to waste your time.
>>722348192By not being guide slaves I imagine
I love the game. When you really get into the flow of the platforming it feels great, the combat too when you can get into a rhythm. The atmostphere is great, the context you pick up along the journey and the music, Bellhart and Choral Chambers specifically I just find myself stopping and listing to the music and soak it in. I love the NPCs and when the bell beast purs at me when it sees me it makes me smile. But my god it can also make me so fucking mad sometimes. The only time I really remember getting actually mad and frustrated in the original game was the final challenge in fighting arena, specifically the wall jumping section. They decided to pick the worst flying enemies they had for that. Now there's flying bastards everywhere.

>>722341630Perfectly put, there are so many little fuck you moments that it's apparent devs had to take their time to think and plan how exactly screw over the player the most. Too many environmental hazards time just right to hit you when you don't need it the most, too many enemies placed exactly on the most optimal runback path. The entire thing with rosaries scattering around you having to take up slot. All yellow tools in general being subpar solutions for little problems they invented.
>>722352352As the OP, I can see why you dislike that but I'm not going to stop using it, I think it perfectly describes the mindset that developers like this have
>>722352531I did but it still takes like 15 seconds every time watching the screen transitions and stuff. And then you'll watch the same stuff again because the needolin takes you to the last one visited instead of Grand Bellway which I want to visit 90% of the time.

>>722341015>>722341630Some of these points may seem very nitpicky but I do agree with the overall sentiment that there is a TON of little nigger moments in this game that, while nothingburgers unto themselves, just happen so goddamn often throughout the whole goddamn thing that they really do tend to accumulate and piss you off. If you try articulating any of these moment individually it sounds like whining, but they're so endemic that they seriously build up.Silksong is a huge test of patience, it feels like it's designed to drop your patience meter by 1% per minute until you're either seething and quit or finish whatever section you told yourself you'd get through that day. This is what happens when the devs go so far out of their way to troll the player continuously at all times that they actually succeed, and you're so trolled that you aren't having fun anymore. Congrats devs, you made a game that's genuinely unfun in a LOT of places. Why on Earth was that the goal?

>>722348192Not done with the game yet, still early on, but I spent like 2 hours just trying to get across this gap with only the floaty cloak and the dash. I could've kept going but there's a switch I hit that drops you back at the beginning and opens the huge pit. Now I can't make it back. Infuriating Jewish bullshit. Yeah, you can probably make it easier with future items, but still.
My main problem is that the bosses are just so uninspired. Sister splinter has very basic attacks, savage beastfly doesn't even really have any attacks. It just floats into you for contact damage. Compared to some of the bosses of hollow knight the silksong bosses are extremely boring, tedious and lazily designed. Real bummer. Gauntlets doesn't fix this.

>>722360340they are definitely a lot less inspired than in hk1i think the fights are good and exciting in their own way but you could have that level of challenge with hk1 level of characterbut overall i think silksong is just aesthetically a lot weaker>>722360515you can easily do any arena without tool spam anyway, guys bitching at nothingwith 1 needle upgrade you deal respectable enough damage to beat the game with it, and theres really no incentive to not get more power than that
>>722359809I also took a long time trying to get back up there after the bridge opened. Godspeed anon
>>722341015>flying enemies are annoying enough with reaper, they must be MISERABLE with wandererThe game gives you four different red tools for flyers (pin trio and boomerang), all of which have a relatively low shard cost, poison, and a mini game from the ladybug guy to help you practice aiming one of them, all within ACT 1.
>>722360340Hk's bosses were insanely simple though other than post-grimm bosses. even moorwing is "more complex" than 90% of hollow knight's bosses. enemies are more sophisticated in general in silksong
>>722360515Trivializing shit with tool spam isn't fun and the ability to do it doesn't mean the game is free of criticism for its design choicesI have been using magic more though, thread storm has gotten me through some rough shit>>722360683>with 1 needle upgrade you deal respectable enough damage to beat the game with itMaybe you can beat the game with it, but it's not what I'd call "respectable", especially when most enemies have some form of block, evasion, or burrowing ability in addition to their high HP pool and small safe-to-attack windows
>>722361286doesnt reaper have by far the best nail art for dealing with flying enemies?
>>722361286>and a mini game from the ladybug guy to help you practice aiming one of themThanks for reminding me to go back there and do that, but yeah, while tools are very useful I don't want to use them as a crutch every time I encounter a flying enemy (which is all the time)
>>722360683NTA but the gauntlets definitely feel more brutal this time around. Two things contribute>Silk arts come out way less often than spells did in Hollow Knight because of how much more expensive healing is. >No Shade Cloak iframes. Especially before you get Clawline and Double Jump in Act 2, navigating the spam and contact damage in arena battles is way harderI agree with the other anon that your best bet is to just spam tools. In fact I'd say that arenas are way the toolspam comes in way harder than actual 1v1 bossfights. Because of this, I'd also say that arenas that are too long for toolspam, like High Halls and Coral Tower, are by far the hardest content in the game. No boss (not even Karmelita or Lost Lace) even comes close.
>>722341630>>722341015holy shit git gud faggots
>>722341630Very well put Anon. However, I actually reacted the way the devs intended. Maybe I just have a lot of patience for intentional bullshit moments, but I like them. Keeps me on my toes. What really grinds my gears is when something feels untested, like the way bosses move dealing contact damage.
>>722360357They're talking about wanderer but it's not 3x more damage.Wanderer deals 40% more in DPS than Hunter due to attack speed. If you get 12 consecutive strikes without receiving damage with Hunter, you get a 1.4x damage boost so they become equivalent. It's just that one gets additional conditions for no reason so it's worse
>>722341630>>This rising lava chase isn't PREPARE TO DIE™ enough, let's put a path to the right that's a complete dead end and hope the player panics under time pressure and just gets killed!good thing you came down that very path to get there and know the way back up then, retard
>>722341015don't worryit will get worseact 3 is where all the bullshit is
>>722362194Wanderer also gets free 300% damage crits 2% of the time for some reason. It's only a small DPS increase on average but it makes a difference and is absolutely unnecessary. It also builds silk significantly faster which lets you use skills more often for even more damage. Wanderer is just at a very significant advantage over every other crest.
>>722361317>Trivializing shit with tool spam isn't fun and the ability to do it doesn't mean the game is free of criticism for its design choices>I have been using magic more though, thread storm has gotten me through some rough shitUsing an option the game gives you is not "trivializing" anything. This right here is why so many of you are utterly pathetic. Just because you feel a certain way about something does not make it true. The game gave you buttons to press use them or don't but do not attach your emotional inferiority to them.If you want to get good enough to do everything in the game by only using the nail then do so but don't complain the game is too hard because you're too stupid to avail yourselves of the options that do exist.
>>722341630cry more
>>722362757I actually think Hunter might be the "worst" crest in the game lmao. Like Wanderer, Architect and Shaman are obviously cracked. Humter's dmg buff should be increased imo
>>722353342>secret entrance for the seeker soulhuh?
>>722341015>couldn't see the mechanical darwinism behind silksong>didn't advance through the jungian scaffolds to reach the nietzschean ludosublimation>didn't get his tastes elevatedSilksong doesn't even come close to real (=arcade) games in terms of difficulty
>>722363117Hunter is solid, if you don't get hit it does do a lot of damage and it doesn't have Shaman's awkward heal. It's way better off than Witch or Beast that have significant downsides in exchange for worse versions of thread storm or flea brew, and Reaper is basically just a bad version Hunter with an easy pogo.
>>722362436>good thing you came down that very path to get there and know the way back up then, retardIt's a troll dead end designed to trap a panicking player who didn't expect the lava to keep rising after the initial platforming part, and sees spikes on the left. Knowing you're an idiot for going the wrong way doesn't make it feel not-shit and not-tedious when you realize you're trapped with no way out and just have to take the death.
Got the Needolin in my Steel Soul run. I'm probably going to hunt every mask shard I can get in Act 1, go kill Phantom since I still have good muscle memories of him, and then start a new save to sort of "run ahead" of my SS run, then practice gauntlets and bosses until I can beat them hitless, so I can get the confidence to attempt them in my real try.Ironically the part that made me sweat the most so far was the platforming challenge that traps you in a corridor full of spikes and explosive bugs in Shellwood, got out of it with maybe 2 masks. For some reason the hardest bosses were Sister Splinter and Moss Mother x 2 because the RNG really had it out for me
>>722341071I had over 78h. But I found Verdania and almost all lore in my playthrough
>>722362784>Using an option the game gives you is not "trivializing" anythingThat's what they said about summons in Elden Ring, but we all know you didn't beat the game if you used them, right? We can quibble over whether it's "trivializing" it but standing in the corner spamming poison kunai or whatever your tool of choice is is an amazing way to cheat yourself out of a challenge. Even if that challenge is overtuned and frustrating, I don't want to just skip it. Why even play if I'm just going to skip the content?
>>722341108For some reason I struggled waayyyy more in act 1. Act 2 was so expansive that I was always finding new shit and poweups. This is one of the few Metroidvania that, despite having everything, I never felt overpowered, like 99% of similar games.
>>722363895>That's what they said about summons in Elden Ring, but we all know you didn't beat the game if you used them, right?>We can quibble over whether it's "trivializing" it but standing in the corner spamming poison kunai or whatever your tool of choice is is an amazing way to cheat yourself out of a challenge. Even if that challenge is overtuned and frustrating, I don't want to just skip it. Why even play if I'm just going to skip the content?Miyazaki already destroyed that argument when he used them himself. Use the tools that are available and win how you want, do not complain the game is too hard if you cannot do it by just hitting the nail. Self-imposed difficulty to masturbate about how good you are only matters to you. If you feel inferior because you need to use tools where other don't that is a you problem that you should work out in therapy, the game has nothing to do with it.
>>722363339Maybe I'll get there anon, I'm still trying. You'll just call me a shitter but the thing I'm complaining about isn't the difficulty, even though there's some overlap sometimes.>>722363632>Reaper is basically just a bad version Hunter with an easy pogo. The reach is pretty useful though, and I like getting a lot of silk back after healing. why does it let me go in the fountain if there's nothing here?
>couriers rashers>the forum>unravelled>mount faydid they just front load all the good content?act 2 fucking sucks so far

>>722341015>AND have tons of HPJust because of pure stupidity I didn't find how to upgrade the pin until I got the oil inside the Citadel. Game went from rough to too easy in like, seconds. You get used to dealing with some things when you have to fight everything for extended periods of time per fight.
>>722365136>unravelledIt wasn't actually a bad fight once you figure out all the damage openings (even though he's annoyingly fat, too much HP, is carefully designed to contact damage you when you think you're safe, too much waiting between phases) but he was just so sillyHe looks dumb and he moves stupidly and he smacks into the wall and does a little bounce, and the spinning enemies he summons are also very stupid
Mount Fay was goated but the surface parkour was kinda mid and uninspired. Suprised there was no white palace or path of pain

>>722366427OKAY
>>722341630Yeah this sums it up fairly well.I hate when a game becomes practically immune to all criticism solely because it is in fact well made and extremely difficult.Like nigger nothing is perfect, there is nothing wrong with pointing out flaws in a great game, stop taking offense like some kind of mindless NPC shill.
I just got to Act 2. Is there a boss in greymoor? I saw some clips on Twitter but never found anything.
>>722369074There is, but if you move the flea caravan into Greymoor he won't show up. Once they've moved on and you go back to around where they where he should show up.
>>722369406He showed up for me and the caravan hasn't moved on yet

>>722341015I think it's way too easy to accidentally miss important items in this game. I got all three songs without even climbing mount faye. I had no idea where the fuck I was supposed to go because the map was so large yet the path to the next mandatory item wasn't even visible.

>>722370481>You chose to beeline the main story instead of exploring the worldThe whole point of exploring is that you don't know what's there until you go there. It's not obvious what's pointless fucking around like Memorium and what's essential to continue the story.
>>722341015>really enjoying Silksong>loving the difficulty, it's challenging but feels rewarding.>don't mind dying because it's fair, it's almost always because I fucked up>Some enemies are annoyingly tanky but that's okay I guess. You sound like a battered housewife making excuses for her violent, angry retard of a husband.
>>722371028>and what's essential to continue the story. You're given markers for that after you beat the cogwork dancers, it's very easy to tell what's story and what's not
>>722371105I too didn't get double jump because the platforming in Mt. Fay was just hard enough that I figured I needed a key item to alleviate it just like how you can alleviate heat-related shit in Deep Docks. That and Mist I decided I would come back for when I had whatever items made them easier to traverse. Obviously not knowing the former had no such thing and the latter only required needolin. I beat Act 2 without clearing those areas, most of the slab (didn't beat 1st Sinner), and had never touched Wisp Thicket. I would have at least attempted to get the Curse ending if I'd had more stuff when I got cursed, but there was no way my underpowered ass was beating Grandmother Silk without healing and no way I was exploring the rest of the game world without being able to heal.
>>722371028There's no pointless fucking around in the game. Memorium for example has a silk upgrade, a memory locket, a flea, a mossberry (free rosaries if you need some), multiple early game enemies if you want to fill out some journal entries without backtracking, one of the best tools in the game, and the main entrance to an area needed for the true ending.
>>722341015Story rundown:>There are these things called "Pale Beings" which are basically Greek God-tier deities in the bug world>One Pale Being, Grandmother Silk, comes to a functioning, albeit nascent, kingdom known as Pharloom>GMS starts spreading her silk around everywhere granting bugs extra power and extended lifespans>Pharloom bugs get high off of her supply and she starts mindcontrolling them subtly>Kingdom starts rapidly advancing technologically and has a strong government made up of the Architects, Conductors, and Vaultkeepers>Pollution caused by the Citadel/GMS ruins Bilewater/Sinners Road, Sands of Karak, and the Coral Tower>Weavers (spider descendants of Grandmother Silk) have enough of GMS and stage a rebellion led by First Sinner, the snails, and the bugs of Bilewater>Rebellion succeeds, but First Sinner is locked in gay baby jail forever and The Widow gets her mask broken and her silk sealed>Grandmother Silk is sealed and the kingdom starts falling apart because her immortality silk isn't being produced anymore, so places like Greymoor start harvesting silk to reuse it>Widow goes schizo because of having her mask destroyed and undoes the seal on GMS, causing GMS to start "The Haunting">High ranking bugs start going to other kingdoms to kidnap Weaver spawn that fled during the Rebellion which is how Hornet gets kidnapped>Lace frees Hornet in the Blasted Steps before she can get her silk harvested
>>722371105You're given markers for the songs and that's it. How you get there and what you need to do it is anyone's guess.

>>722371354>memorium has consumables, a sidegrade, and you can leave to go do something that mattersgreat
Nerf Lost Lace.
>>722341015the game has dogshit combat for a lot of reasons mainly because of the antiquated and overly shallow programming.Contact damage is horrible design. the only good boss fights in video games are ones that feel like they're playing by similar rules to you.But in this game every boss is playing by radically different rules.Imagine if you did heavy damage to bosses simply by moving into them.
>>722371526Right. So if you know where the story is, you know where it isn't. I made the choice to explore the other areas before I pursued the main story, and as a result I naturally finished off the rest of the story a lot more kitted out with abilities, tools and everything else. Complaining that beelining the main story doesn't hand you everything on a platter is asinine
>>722359809Opening that pit is indeed supposed to actually be a shortcut since it lets you walljump from the floor below to get up there. Make sure you're remembering that you can also dash in mid-air after doing a sprint jump. Ideally jump, use the drifter cloak at the peak of your jump to arrest your fall speed, drift right until you start falling faster, then dash to reset that speed and gain a bit more distance, and then use the cloak again.
>>722371761Single damage on contact would make this less of a problem.

>>722372738Both, but I suck at timing charged attacks. You can shred nearly any boss with Cogfly + 2 other traps of your choice depending on circumstances (Boomerang over tacks for flying enemies, Sting Shard in 90% of cases personally). All you have to do is dodge. If you come into the fight with full Silk, just replenish when the traps run out. Outside of dream bosses who don't consume shards, it will cost you loads and loads of shards if you aren't beating shit on your first or second try though.

>>722341015>many enemies now dance just out of reach AND constantly block AND do two damage AND have tons of HPYou know... now that i think about it, is this the game's way of teaching you to punish enemies instead of attacking them like you normally do, and to prepare you for some of the later bosses? If so then they could have done this a little better and not being so obnoxious about it. Like, they really didn't have the jank so many enemies up so bad.

>>722379234>that groal is easy if you know what you're doing?any boss looks easy with enough practice my guy. Besides, your webm doesn't include the runup or the gauntlet, both of which contribute to how shitty that fight is
I don't know how but after 7 years of development act 3 feels haphazard, and plenty of the game's elements feel like they've been hastily rearranged. Loved the game but it does feel like the kind of project that's had a turbulent and inconsistent development cycle.
>>722379317nta but the gauntlet is easy. The worst part of Bilewater's enemies is that they either attack and flee, or try to fuck with you in the middle of platforming. Getting them in a gauntlet is an improvement because they're forced to actually fight you when you're ready to fight.
>>722379317no need to include the runup and gauntlet when the boss fight starts with me having full stats across the board, it should be implied that neither of those were a problemand if practice solved the so called difficulty problem then there is no difficulty problem, but a shitter problem instead

I have no fucking idea when to expect allies to show up or not show up, and for bosses/rushes I've only had the map one show up in ant hell once, the sheer fact that you or the devs expect people to know how to unlock or even anticipate assists is laughable. Almost no one talks about where they'll be going or what they'll be doing, and it's always a pleasant surprise to see them, but the game doesn't choreograph or expect you to get these unlocks in the first run. >>722379919so if I remember correctly aren't the infinitely respawning ones in that big open area where you have to clawline up before you go to the left? And then when you do go to the left there's like 1 or 2 before you have to go through the ACTUAL issue with the runup which is the enemies WITH NO TELL that jump out of the water and shoot crap at you. Yes it is avoidable with enough practice but it is annoying as fuck regardless and shouldn't be something you have to deal with more than once. So aside from the fact that if you wanted to farm silk before the gauntlet you'd have to sit there and wait on these to respawn (fair enough since you lost health on the way) you're completely ignoring the fact that they come before the actual main issue with the runup

Anyway back to the actual topic, the game is more polished and "better" than hk1 but fails in one critical aspect, almost every boss fight is just not fun, theyre gay and annoying and poorly balanced since the game tries to not let you cheese them with tools but you can cheese them with tools anyway. Pantheon 5 in HK1 was fun as hell despite the last 2 bosses being ridiculously difficult compared to anything else in hk1 or hk2

>>722381627i'd suck your dick. i'm not even that good at video games but compared to this other faggot i look like a golden god

>Going back to all the Act 1 areas after getting all the upgradesI love this game. I had no idea that Deep Docks was so big. I missed like half of it. For a future replay, is it safe to say that this should get the priority for the Simple Key?
>>722377602>says he's working class during the Eclipsium stream>all the kappa's in chat
>>722383208Yeah you gotta be judicious with it. It's high demand but extremely high performance
>>722379441>best category has the bosses with the most easily telegraphed attackedhmmmmmm....
>>722341630Perfectly said criticism. And I already 100%ed it and topped Seth's scores so anyone telling you just to git gud is a complete niggerfaggot
>>722383353Not really, there's not much down there of note unless you really want to push for flintslate. I think beelining for wanderer is still likely the play.
>>722383389i wanna try it out more, beast too. almost done with act 2 tho
i still don't know why beastfly gave people so much trouble.
>>722375784Gamers don't deserve respect.
>>722383353>priority for the Simple Key?wormway > deep dick > green guy > high halls
>>722383720He adjusts his rush height if you try to jump over him early, he deals 2 masks on everything when you're early in the game, he has ads that also rush you, he doesn't have a lot of downtime for an early boss, and most people fought him without any needle upgrades so he's tanky. He's just rough for when you can first access him for people who are new to the franchise/are still rusty.
>>722383720Because people treat it as an early game boss that blocks their entire way forward.
>>722382736I thought that was the worst one to be honest. Like a worst wanderer. Having to hit something with the heal, and that something needing to have enough hp or you heal like 1 mask. In a game where half the bosses teleport or fly around spastically all the time and are generally really agressive, you need to find that one moment where they're close to you, standing still, and not attacking or mid-whiff under the pressure of needing to heal or you die. In a game where getting hit mid heal interrumpts the heal and kills your silk bar to boot. What's the advantage exactly? No, seriously what's the fucking advantage. The range of the heal attack is fucking shit too.
>>722381945It wasn't even as hard as the first HK. Both Radiances, Pure Vessel, and NKG all took me about 50 tries vs Lost Lace's 7 Groal was the Skong champion by taking me about 25True Eigong had 116 attempts before I cleared her.
>>722383720I died to him a couple times because something about his movement felt unintuitive to me, but he was easy to adjust to. I think people also suck at dealing with more than one enemy at a time, so the fact that he can summon two guys makes him total bullshit in their view.
>>722383908I mean if we're talking relative difficulty NKG back in the day took me almost a solid hour of attempts. But I don't even think he's much harder than a fight like Widow. I'm just a better player now.
>>722383889warding bell + claw mirrors + multibinder
>this game is TOO HARD ARTIFICIAL DIFFICULTY DOESN'T RESPECT MY TIME TEDIUM HARD>what how dare you tell me to use a different strategy you didn't beat the game
>many enemies now dance just out of reach AND constantly block AND do two damage AND have tons of HP>flying enemies are annoying enough with reaper, they must be MISERABLE with wanderer>gauntlets/arenas start to include the most obnoxious groups of enemies possible, leaving fewer and fewer opportunities to safely deal damage without tool spam, even though enemies are taking more and more hits to killNow, I've had my fair share of malding at this game but can someone explain to me why people feel this is particularly egregious? Flyers being little shits that are hard to hit is *the point*, they're challenging your ability to engage and disengage at range and prioritizing targets in arenas. The arenas in general are excuses to present the player with groups of enemies that complement each other's weak points and forcing the player to engage them together and dismantle that. Why do people seem to get so angry at those kinds of gameplay challenges, but not others?>>722377623I think it was a regular haunting and Pavo describes the feeling of not being in control of his mind. I think the main difference is that bellhart residents were still alive, whereas most haunted bugs you encounter are actually just dead bodies being reanimated.
>>722384059Yeah but I could use that item combination with other crests and deal good damage with the heal too. What's the advantage of using witch specifically? Sometimes you really need to heal and the boss just moves out of the fucking way or it's too risky to get close to heal, with any other crest you didn't damage it but you still have 4 masks, with witch you're fucked now.
runbacks are just classic game design, you don't need a save in front of every fightcorpse runs are gay soulsshit though since it just discourages you from going somewhere else after dying since you'll permanently lose resourcessame with shards/tools
>>722384276Flyers aren't even that bad once you get clawline. Except spit squits and pinstress who are programmed to stay out of even that.
>>722383908>>722384007To also put it in perspective, Grimmtroupe and Godhome were later DLCs added to the game to increase difficulty as an optional challenge. Even Absolute Radiance isn't significantly harder than normal radiance, it's just that it's locked behind a 30+ minute gauntlet runback, moves a bit faster, and deals double damage wow, doesn't this sound familiarWe have nothing like that yet, just the base game. They'll probably do another lazy boss rush mode identical to the one in HK and people will cream themselves over "wow the content".
>>722384326the advantage is that it's fun and a different playstyle, running up on a group of enemies and binding to instagib them is cool, and the extended range helps you stay out of danger so you're not put into situations where you have no choice but to risk death just to heal, the charge attack is up there in power too
>>722384059Warding bell isn't worth it, run injector band instead. Warding bell counter seems appealing but it only does 7 damage so it's very outclassed later.
>>722348535Man, just fuck off and play one of the countless AAA pieces of trash that have been expressly lobotomized to accommodate subhuman retards like you.
>>722384389>runbacks are just classic game design*archaic game design
>>722384642nothing wrong with archaic bud
>>722341630That lava gauntlet can be cleared just by holding the wall and spamming tools until all enemies are dead. IQ issue.
>>722384276My working theory is the current obsession with bosses being the hardest thing ever in action games has led to people specializing in 1v1 fights while looking down on other forms of challenge and neglecting the skills needed to tackle them.
why is the beast pogo so fucking badyou will just randomly take damage no matter what part of the animation hits an enemy
>>722384642>this is bullshit, I almost beat the boss>why do I have to fight the whole thing over again?
>>722384528Fair point. I used Reaper almost the entire 100% run so now I'm planning to play with something else. I was thinking beast which I never used.
>>722384773skill issue __________________skill issue_____________________
>>722384389I found corpse runs a lot less tedious in Silksong compared to Hollow Knight since you just need to hit your cocoon once and silkeaters are decently easy to come by, the inclusion of rosary strings also alleviate things a lot
>>722384642**good game design
>>722384793that's just new god of war
>>722363126You can volt through the floor after groal and skip his fight entirely
I'm so fucking sad, man
i think it's super fucking gay how easily people complain at the slightest pushback and friction in a video game
>>722385130This seems like just a straight-up bug that they'll probably patch out.
>>722378004>0:29Rune Rend is such a piece of shit skill. It's ok for clearing a crowded arena but even then it somehow manages to miss a lot of the time, I really don't get how it's supposed to determine where the runes will appear.
>>722384793There are very few runbacks I would classify as part of the boss or even difficult, most I would simply consider a waste of my time as I go through more loading screens (like going in and out of the dreams) or a couple precious seconds running across the ground.
>>722341630I was enjoying the game a FUCK ton, even act 2 was amazing to me.Act 3 actually put huge brakes on that fun though, the game IS maliciously designed. It's not BAD design, but design that is specifically intended to make the player not have fun.Every boss fight now just annoys me because they give them all WAY too much health.I still beat them in a few retries but each attempt pisses me off because im playing fine, but after smacking the boss over 30 times, and even using silk skills and tools, they just simply dont fucking die.And then when i am successful it feels like the game was making fun of me because i actually WAS that much closer to victory on the other attempts.Im fine with bosses not having health bars.... if their HP values are insanely fucking bloated. On top of that, act 3's super jump leading to very mediocre arena fights in random fucking areas around the map also just started to burn me out heavily.>>722348535Very well put.The entire time playing through some parts of act 2, and mostly every part of act 3 i was thinking to myself "games like OoE and dark souls didnt do things this malicious and punishing because they had playtesters to tell them hey this shit is fucking unfair and exhausting.Thats the best way to describe my act 3 experience, its just exhausting and act 2 ended on a very high note.Just a sad ordeal with this game. It seriously fell off, HARD.
>>722385187pushback should be>wow this game is really hard I can't wait to keep playing and get better and improvenot>wow this game is hard but also so fucking annoying I can't wait to finish it so I finally move on
>>722385319>games like and dark souls didnt do things this maliciousYou cannot be fucking serious
>>722385319I don't know, the fights I had the most trouble with in this game were Last Judge and Groal (both Part 2) and Karmelita (Part 3.) All the other bosses in Part 3 are easy/fair, but she's a huge ballbuster, way harder than even Lost Lace for me (who should've skipped from first to third phase but otherwise wasn't HARD, just annoying to consistently react to.)
>>722385414>wow this game is really hard I can't wait to keep playing and get better and improveyeah that's how i felt about silksong, what i don't understand is how you came away with>wow this game is hard but also so fucking annoying I can't wait to finish it so I finally move onwith how much the game gives you to get past obstacles
>>722341015>Liked most of HK>But the Ghost had SHIT movment>Because of this the game was a 7/10 for me>Silksong>First thing you get is a Sprint>9 out of 10 GOTY for me>Difficulty? Runback? Just don't die retardI feel like I'm the only asshole in the world that has this opinion. Silksong runbacks to me are substantially less anoying then the Ghost moving so god damn slow for all of HK. The only time I did dislike the runbacks where the dream bosses, which ironically most people actually liked cause you are right there. But unlike other bosses where you have to platform or fight your way back, every dream boss forces you to do a 15 second cutscene of playing the song, passing out, then waking up every damn time which got on my nerves after a while. Like, at that point just fucking spawn me in the dream and don't waste my time.
>>722385309Rune Rage is RNG as hell but it absolutely nukes shit with the Shaman Crest + Volt Filament
>>722385518i dunno it just wasn't the most fun. Made me miss Sekiro desu, now that game was kino

Hey guys I think I found a major sequence break.I used Voltvessel to destroy the path from Bilewater to Putrefied Ducts... from the top. Skipping the entire Bilewater run
>>722385575>Like, at that point just fucking spawn me in the dream and don't waste my time.Yeah I don't get why it isn't the case since you can just walk out of them anyway, that shit was particularly egregious with the Coral Tower since you also gotta super jump each time
>>722385965What happens if you enter Groal from the back?
>>722386067NTA but you can just mug his house without ever facing him. It's clearly a bug but I like dumb sequence breaks like this.I like getting Longclaw early though, so still gonna rough it.
>>722373865Contra is VERY short in comparison to this game which is actually too fucking big, which hurts the game and exacerbates it's flaws because you are exposed to them for too long.Bad parts in arcade games last like a couple minutes at most.
>>722386502Dude it's a fucking metroidvania, of course it's supposed to be long. Imagine buying a metroidvania and being done with it in 2 hours.
>>722386693Some of the best metroidvanias are 4-8 hours long.
>>722386758literally name one
>>722386794cave story
>>722386758On a minimalist speedrun, yeah. Any metroidvania that can be beaten on your first attempt in 2 hours is a waste of resources.
>>722385253They're patching out the Trobbio skip which is conceptually similar. So yeah, it's definitely getting patched.
>>722386794Dread was great.
>>722386794Even without going for intentionally dense and compact indie games, Ori and the Blind Forest is easily under 8 hours.
>>722386758Even the shorter MVs I like are 10-12hrs minimum.
>>722385575>every dream boss forces you to do a 15 second cutscene of playing the song, passing out, then waking up every damn time which got on my nerves after a whileI though I was being a little bitch getting so disproportionally annoyed at those. I was imploring the game to just put me back in there. They even do shorten the animation after the first time, just not nearly enough. I'm glad I wasn't alone at least.
>>722386946I beat Islets blind in 8 hours
>>722386946Actually I lied Islets was shorter than I remember I just played it twice.
>>722386908yea playing a game and doing 0% of the optional stuff or engaging in any of the metroidvania aspects doesn't really count, does it. silksong can be beaten very quickly if you just go from point a to b
>>722387027it was the same in hollow knight with the dream fights. those little platforming sections that took a while. i can understand the reason for them at least
>>722386825>cave story>>722386908>Ori and the Blind ForestBoth of these just barely qualify as metroidvanias. Ori has some power progression, but it's so railroaded, you can tell it really wanted to be just a linear action platformer.Cave Story is slightly more free form, but I think most people don't really consider it a mv either since there's a pretty set story path you have to follow and there aren't any options outside of that, even if you can technically freely roam around the game.>>722387189Those didn't bother me because in all cases you could just figure out a spot to jump down directly into the arena and then ignore all the platforms.
>>722353342>>thread storm can be held??it can?!
>>722387027Runbacks have actual gameplay. I understand why many people dislike them but as someone that enjoys the games movment and combat it was never such a burden for me.The dream bosses on the other hand is literally "hold a button and wait several seconds of your life doing NOTHING" which doesn't sound as bad in theory but in reality it's so much worse cause those seconds add up a lot and I'd much rather be doing SOMETHING.
>>722387308Your definition of metroidvania is one met by a very small number of games held by common consensus within the genre, and in point of fact excludes most of the Metroid and Castlevania games.
>>722383251That's how I beat him after I died a couple times, I saw him using the sucking move and figured I could throw them into his mouth Zelda style.
>>722381173Okay tranny.
>>722383251If the bombs land in the water you also get a bestiary entry for the grubs. Same with the sandworm hazards.
>>722387372It's funny how nobody complains about them in comparison to any other runback, my guess is that since it's in act 3 anyone who got filtered by runbacks already dropped the game ages ago.
>>722383353It's a waste, you can get everything worthwhile from the Far Fields entrance
>>722385156He's just.... resting.....He will get up soon and then he and Zaza will go and have their next adventure! :D

>>722386908>ori and the blind forestIs any platformer with abilities you can unlock now a fucking metroidvania?
>>722387774>>722387931>>722385156Wish you could use Zaza to traverse the world after that.
>>722385156I mean... technically he isn't all parts and guts like the other bugs Hornet cuts down...
>>722387973And betray your Bell Beast like that?
>>722387967It has recursive exploration of areas with new abilities that recontextualize how you can move through that space and what you are able to obtain within that space. What other definition makes sense?
i miss the last (old) stag
Ori is a metroidvania but very light on the additional exploration part.
>>722388042I mean outside of the Bellways. Should be able to just zoom across the game world, you're practically done the game at that point so why not.
>>722388045Does it? It's been a good while since I played it but I remember walking away from the game with the impression that it was just 3 standalone dungeons connected via a hub world with no reason to backtrack. It has a structure more similar to a Zelda game than MVs.
>>722388158Yeah, there's quite a few pieces of heart and mana shards you can only get by backtracking with bash or glide or whatever to earlier zones. The definitive edition added two more abilities that are more explicitly 'metroidvania' with obstacles that only those abilities can circumvent but it interrupts the flow pretty severely.
>>722388045That definition applies to basically all games that allow you to revisit old areas, crash bandicoot is personally my favorite metroidvania, so cool to revisit new areas to unlock new stuff after collecting gems and abilities.
