If you watch high level Mage gameplay it's typically extremely defensive assuming an equally matched opponent. STR/INT is also very strong, but mainly for your ability to proc Cold status with your heavy melee attacks and getting basic buffs from your spells. Casting is strong, but a lot of the hardest bosses in the game have dangerous gap closers, and the poise damage from most spells is kinda shit. You'll do good damage, but have to stay on your toes and be quick on the dodges. I've done two playthroughs, INT/DEX, mostly focused on casting, and INT/STR, mostly focused on melee, and while my mechanical skill is probably somewhat better, the latter is just much more manageable because Colossal Swords are such a powerful weapon class.

My easiest ever malenia kill was on my faith caster, burn o flame basically stunlocked her to death. Faith builds come online instantly too, you start with catch flame and get black flame and lightning spear extremely quickly. Depending on how quickly you get to altus plateu you get pest threads early as well. If you struggle with faith caster you should honestly uninstall and stop playing, it's one of the easiest builds there is and this game is just not for you. >>722424460Int rapes 90%+ of all bosses in the game to death with night comet and rock sling.
