Play FAF. A real time strategy PvP sandbox is exactly what you need to give you the shakes. It's objectively fun.

I can only, like, minute 25-29, but it's one of the most effective strategies.

I think PvP is the best way to balance the game. Not only is 1v1 the best way to design a game to work in all other modes (I'm not even saying it would be the most popular), look at all the popular games: Apex, Fortnite. Nobody cares that they lose. PvP is also much simpler to design than AI and has much deeper gameplay.

I would like an RTS MMO.
>>

ARK is basically an RTS MMO. You can control dozens of units and can build bases and have economy, and what's the difference between WoW phasing a character with 75 people and ARK having 75 player servers that can be traveled to with your inventory?

>has a line of T1 PDs at base to instantly melt teleSACUs trying this shit

>>722409343
there's m28ai, just let the community do it for free
it's very fun to have the AI actually know how to do air fights and where to send nukes without cheating in resources(you can enable that too)
>>
>>722410271
Shattered Galaxy was fucking cash and I can't believe nobody copied it. It would also work great with all the skinner box bullshit everyone tries thanks to constant need for progression to level up your units over and over again.
>>
>>722411016
You have to have, like, 20 or something.

The risk:reward aspect of SupCom is really good. To upgrade a support commander requires an extreme amount of energy -- if the resource is depleted, it turns off shields (and storage buildings, to have some leeway while your expenditure is greater than your income, are extremely explosive).
>>
what the fuck is FAF boyo
>>
>>722411090
Air fighting is sort of complex, basically drifting, to keep the noses (because the planes only shoot forward) on the opponent fighters. I think the AI would just be leading their direction with move commands (which is how I do it), but if you know how it works, let me know.

I'm sure a good Heaven video exists on piloting.

You could have, like, leaderboards for players against AI, but the social aspect of playing vs. real players is too strong. See Self Determination Theory, extrinsic vs. intrinsic rewards. Feeling socially relevant keeps players from getting bored, and these systems are multiplicative, so real players are much more stimulating. I don't think people get the shakes playing AI, anywhere as much as PvPing. The latter (no pun intended) is extremely adrenergic. You have to learn to stay out of tunneling and to be aware.

Scouting and whole map gameplay (not to mention group sizes, and unit and building amounts) is one reason I think StarCraft is so much surpassed by SupCom.

I would also mention how much that realistic and recognizable features improve experience and casting (frigates, subs, destroyers, battlecruisers, battleships, etc.). Watch some Gyle casts. Simply so much more is going on, is storytelling.

I'm not sure what Shattered Galaxy is like, and I'm on a phone, but I would start players and respawns with a commander unit (to promote and dissuade early rushing, and which could still be deep with upgrades and such -- I don't think anyone has a problem with the commander being another option to units and buildings, and SupCom FA commander upgrades are *really* good -- gun, health, regeneration, teleporting, invisibility ... depending on the faction; not to mention veterancy bonuses) and would maybe have first and third person control (some games are already deep with terrain variables to shots, such as a laser vs. an arc projectile, and I'm not entirely sure anything interesting could be done with F/TP that would vastly improve gameplay, without requiring a lot of excess development, but maybe you have an insight).

commanders can't do shit once tier 3 assault bots are around
>>
>>722411876
SupCom sold a standalone xpac called Forged Alliance, and modders made patches and a multiplayer browser called Forged Alliance Forever. It's actually really good, though I extremely disagree with engimod (cheap secondary factories allow way too much freedom and power, and T1 engines being the most effective mass value is reasonable because of how little health they have).

I watched high level games and it just seems like a boring endgame.
>Just make superweapons and nukes and go.
OR
>If you are the gustav brackham race you can laser snipe suicide even if you don't have shit (totally retarded)
>>
>>722418621
I also really like SupCom's art design. Units have archetypal personality, somewhat derived from faction lores (e.g., UEF's >Americuh!) and bonuses.

what do anons think about Sanctuary Shattered Sun as the new SupCom replacement. I never see anyone mention it here.
>>
>>722418749
Endgame you never know what is going to happen. Watched one where the underdog managed to win by hunting down the enemy commander in a river and managing to drop a CZARs corpse on them just as his base was consumed by a horde of T1. We are talking fraction of life left on the winning commander and a shining example of one of the things that sets commander based rts apart from others, always know what the fuck your commander is doing. Getting to excited for your win you take the eyes off the prize and it doesn't take much to punish you for it.

>I watched high level games and it just seems like a boring endgame.

What's the problem? The gameplay variety is strong. Nukes aren't usually a problem when play is good, and unit play over vast landscapes is awareness requisite and skillful.

>>If you are the gustav brackham race you can laser snipe suicide even if you don't have shit (totally retarded)
Upgrades are expensive, and laser snipes are easy to avoid (point defense, or standing in water). Plus, you don't have to play Assassination, though it's my favorite.

don't play nor listen to op, he's a big autistic who can't move on from his old and busted game
if you want to play something similar but modern just go to Beyond all Reason

Is that one being made with by some FAF coders? I recall it being shilled through the FAF client so thought they might be connected.
Last I saw was some stuff about playtests. There was a point during development they didnt commit to skirmish Ai as it was put of scope for funding despite its importance. Hope they changed that stance and understand skirmish is critical for providing confidence for new players to go online.

Only works in dedicated 1v1 settings. When things get scaled, 1v1 balance breaks games.
>>
>>722406257
I need to try this for the coop campaign.
>>
>>722421319
How so? Are you saying that 1v1 design makes units and buildings (especially in a team) too powerful?

No

>try to play a 8 player skirmish on a large map

FAF had its time but now its Beyond All Reason's territory. Massive optimization, fun and totally free.
>>
>>722423637
There's nothing about FAF that makes it unplayable, and it has so much variety:depth, from zooming out (and back into another area for quick relocation), to being able to attack while you move, that makes it better than even popular games. Match development has an extreme amount of options and story.
>>
>>722424079
I really like everything about the game, but I play very repetitively, especially when playing on the one-ish map that everyone plays. You have to play the meta for your slot, but I have a strict play for each. I always play Seraphim, so I rush T3 subs on naval, borrow an engy from Cybran and eco-support-commander spam on land, nuke and tele rush on land, and experimental rush on eco slot. The variety is obviously still good. (I love playing navy and pushing back theirs.) All of the gameplay is exhilarating, but I need to watch my map more, scout more often, and not base build for 30 minutes every game.

I would really like to see a AAA RTS that really pushes HW.

When I first started playing SupCom, I didn't know you could upgrade mass extractors, so I was getting vastly out-eco'd.

Also, the AI is really good. Air is really powerful, and it spams it.
