>>
>>722422306
The 360's launch titles weren't that great, if I remember right. I think we only had Project Gotham Racing 3 and Kameo: Elements of Power at the time.
Kameo was a great Zelda clone though. I'd like to play it again.
>>
>>722422672
Did you hook it up to the internet from day one?
>>
>>722421942
yeah getting the red ring of death must've felt godly
>>
>>722422745
Not from day one. My parents were really wary about online subscriptions at the time.
But back then, you would get a free month of Xbox Live with every new Microsoft account/Gamertag you made, so when Halo 3 came out the following Fall, I made a new account so I could play online, and did the same thing like two or three more times so I could keep playing. The last one I made is still my Microsoft account to this day.
>>
>>722421942
I got mine in 2008, but I played in 2006-2007 I was blown out about gears of war coopertive mode and lost planet snow levels
>>
I was a snot nosed little shit and asked for a 360 like a week before Christmas. No idea how my parents made it happen, but they did.

>>
>>722421942
I always wondered why I had Forza and Marvel Ultimate Alliance. I guess I just forgot getting it with the console.
>>
Didn't the first run of 360's lack an HDMI port or was that just the arcade?
>>
My parents refused to buy me an Xbox 360 and got me a PS3. I was so upset I couldn’t play halo 3 with my friend
>>
>>722423563
Yeah, the early ones were A/V only which is why it will be a retro console in a month and a half.
>>
>>722423563
I'm pretty sure there was a basic and a premium model on launch and only the premium one had HDMI

Everything except the super slim supported component, which could do 1080i. Even though there were a bunch of bundles that included the component cables instead of basic composite I imagine most people just used them as composite anyway.

One nice thing about the 360's component cable is the physical SD/HD toggle switch on it. If you switched TVs a lot you didn't have to worry about it being stuck at like 720p or something while you're trying to hook it up to a CRT, which was kind of a problem with the Wii.
>>
>>722421942
I couldn't imagine how bad it would get. I used to think gaming was going to be paradise in the future but now you have to be a absolute drooling retard to play on xbox even if you are a normie which says something.

>>
>>722421942
I didn't get it until 2006, because my family were poorfags, but honestly it wasn't that bad because the first units had RROD. I don't think any console release has topped this with the spectacle that it really was. The freedom to trash talk, online multiplayer being pushed, pack-in mics, the deals microsoft cut to bring awesome exclusive titles to it.

>>
>>722424172
I am that retard. I have stuck with the Xbox brand for 20 years now. It's just depressing to see how far things have fallen and how little Microsoft actually gives a shit anymore. The Series X has been on the market now 5 years and doesn't even have even one exclusive game. Unless you are someone while is already invested in the ecosystem there is little reason to actually own an Xbox in 2025 particularly since they just gutted Game Pass, the one thing people actually liked about the console

Never owned a three-sissy or any other xbox for that matter. Not opposed to them but one never turned up into my hands at a convenient time for a reasonable price. Too few exclusives to actively seek it out. Shame og xbox emulation still barely works on many games, I'd try a few.

Should've waited one more year and gotten the 360slim when it released a year later as for RROD which mainly affected the lowest price point model of the earliest releases. The slim and other models didn't have that issue.
>>
>>722425992
If you bought a new one in 2009 it wouldn't have had the RROD issue. They fixed it mid-2008.

with xbox you had to cope with hd dvd
>>
>>722428227
Xbox Live was by far the best online gaming service at the time. Making players pay to play multiplayer is someone I definitely still support as it does absolute wonders to filter out cheaters and poor third worlders from games. $60 dollars a year for online gaming was totally worth it

(as far as i can find at least)
and you can play singleplayer
so the console and most of its games and features works without paying for online

The left itself has unfortunately been focused on identity politics since around the middle of the 20th century when they failed to appeal to the working class and changed strategies. Occupy was an important moment but the cultural stream was steadily going in this direction for a long time. Tumblr was made in 2007, after all.
Not to mention foreign powers know that social issues are a huge weak point and it's easier than ever to enflame them in the age of the international internet.

Only very early fat models, yeah. Unlike Microsoft, Sony actually cracked down properly on the YLOD as soon as it became a thing.

I would borrow my friend's 360 back in 2008 just to play Forza Motorsport 3, I just couldn't get enough of this game. I still play it occasionally (I ended up buying the xbox from him because he switched to PS4)

It was cool to when you would do a private match and people would just join if it was open. I remember doing a private match on cod4 with a friend of mine to practice getting out of the map in old school free for all. It started with just me and him, then 1 by 1 people kept joining until we had a full game of people fucking around. A lot of them were friends of friends of friends that kept joining off of their friends. It was one of the most fun times i had that happened completely organically.

this girl was "one of the boys", she said she had a bunch of older brothers who passed the xbox down to her
but honestly for me it was great just being able to have an environment where i could talk to a woman and "flirt" without the awkwardness of being in front of an irl girl.
i wasnt even on the same side of the world as her so its not like i was trying to fuck or anything.
but boys growing up only gain experience by actually going up to a girl an talking to her
a fear that freezes most men solid for a decent amount of time(sometimes forever)
so when i finally was ready to start talking to girls irl i had almost a decade of "rizzing"(as the kids say these days) up this girl
and a ton of that fear and anxiety simply wasnt there at that point

now yes as always the other guys DID actually try to fuck her, which caused beef with the other guys and the clan broke up.
soon after i bought a pc and never looked back.

so even though women being in mens groups(online) usually goes tits up. in this situation it was really great.
well for me at least.

Microsoft, driven by the miraculous success of the Xbox 360 and Sony's massive fuckups with the Playstation 3, invested a monumental amount of money in the Xbox to bring the Gears, Halo, Fable and Forza franchises to its peak.
Despite the Xbox 360 success, this business strategy still wasn't profitable.
With the failure of the Xbox One, Microsoft simply abandoned the idea of making games and tried selling hardware and subscriptions.
Still, it wasn't worth it, and the Xbox division never achieved the monopoly Microsoft aspired to.

To think that Microsoft's Xbox division was never profitable just shows how desperate Bill Gates is to subvert the video game industry.

PS3 collecting is at least pretty cheap. I hate how overpriced the retro gaming market has become but right now is a great time to pick up 360 and PS3 games as most used games are fairly inexpensive. Check thift stores and pawn shops and you are likely to find a lot of stuff

Yeah that's called having internet.
Wouldn't it be crazy if you could just plug in your console and play online without having to pay an extra toll booth?
>>
>>722434018
>Yeah that's called having internet.
you are being bad faith.
i dont know why you hold onto this belief that the 360 had tons of problems with it had a couple hardware level flaws at best.

they didnt scam or trick or deceive anyone
they just had business practices that you personally didnt like.
and you are acting like these are flaws inherent to the hardware itself
its retarded.

I think it was the western powers that be in general that wanted to take over the growing console market again after Japanese companies had dominated in the wake of the 80s implosion.
After California claimed the Playstation and efforts were made to cull the dudebro culture that thrived on the 360, Xbox didn't have any purpose.

>have a near-launch era 360
>three (two) RRODs throughout its lifetime
>RROD #1: sent to MS in its "coffin," got a replacement unit a few weeks later
>RROD #2: revived it using the towel trick, which lasted about a week before
>RROD #3: bit the bullet, opened up the console and did the X-clamp mod. Also reflowed the mobo with a heat gun before putting everything back together
That repair lasted me a little over a decade now. Now when I turn the console on sometimes I'll get graphics artifacting or entire system lockups with no warning or red ring, so I guess it's about time to retire this console for good. I'm surprised it lasted this long.

I got one for my birthday, which was also the same day as the release date for oblivion on the 360

Xbox still managed to make America relevant in the console market again after Atari completely stumbled in the the mid 80's and never recovered. I just wish Microsoft had kept really trying after the Xbox 360. The Xbox One and the Series S and X have just felt very lackluster and low effort and just completely lacking in the ambition the Xbox brand had in its first two consoles

Next console generation I'll be buying a PlayStation, Steam deck type device or upgrading the PC. Microsoft can get fkd after offering a barely better catalogue than PlayStation and then attempting to ass fuck the customer base with their shitty sub service that by the way will have mandatory unzippable adverts. Also just replaced windows 10 with Linux.

No one ever talks about it, but it was amazing having music on your console. They had a visualizer when just play, me and friends could put on while smoking weed in high school. Also could just play music in any game, even GTA had a custom radio station for your music. The whole industry has got worse ever since 360.
