This is the big one. The world in SMW when the paradigm shift occurred. This is the moment when Super Mario breaks out of the "Bros." shell and changes into something more, something beyond that. Forest of Illusion is when the Mario franchise really matured and turned into what it is today, looking at the mainline games (and not spinoffs).Anything speaking against that idea?
Mario 3 is better than World.
>>722484563I hate that the art of "saying a lot of words that mean nothing" is completely obsolete since AI can do that for you now
>>722485747That's true but even if my post is retarded, it would feel utterly soulless if an AI wrote it. Frankly in all circumstances I can think of, using a language model to write you a post on fucking 4chan feels so unnecessary.
how the forest of illusion BREAKS youthe quiet loneliness of the forest of illusion
Which retard came up with this system? No point in collecting them at all.
This change happened early on in Donut Plains.
>>722484563I'd argue it was like, way too simpleAll you do is follow these path turns
>>722488340big shiny coinmust collect
>>722484563Nah, Mario 3 was the real turning point. World 5 turning from a regular ground world into a sky world, and World 6 having those headfuck 'how was I supposed to know' exits. I do wish they'd have included a Forest of Illusion level in Mario 64. Probably would have been hard to pull off though.
>>722488340Points!
Dude I fucking LOVE collecting all the dragon coins!
>>722488340GBA version turned this into a good feature by letting you keep track of which ones you had and hadn't collected, and giving you a Wario style PERFECT screen once you collected them all.
>>722490593If only the color palette and screen ratio wasn't fucked.
>*filters amerishitters*
>>722485671is a commonly held opinion by midwits, SMW perfects the Mario formula that started the moment you saw Mario in SMB going from one level to the other, providing a feeling of continuity instead of random scattered levels, the World in SMW is the ultimate expression of that.
Super Mario Bros. 3 is more "Famicom"Whereas Super Mario World is feels unmistakably "Super Nintendo"
>>722486234>even if my post is retardedNo 'if' about it, anon.
>>722484563Forest of Illusion is just the trial-and-error castles from SMB1 in form of a world.
...
I was stuck in Forest of Illusion for over a yearI'm serious, I basically quit the game here for over a year and only just recently found a way outI think this area fucking SUCKS
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zw0w254NzF8
>>722494258Heh, filtered.
>>722490680Sound quality too
>>722490445I believe you
>>722493206Yeah and Mario64 feels like an N64 game
>>722494258Unironically how, don't you literally see the key and keyhole while walking by and just have to use the balloon to get to it? To get outside of the forest I mean.
>>722490969Fuck off with this narrative. SMB2 Japan didn’t come to the US because it was a half-assed sequel and Japanese players gave feedback that frightened Nintendo
>>722496245Not him, you have to enter a specific pipe in the third level to get out. It's not in the plain sight.
>>722496245That just unlocks the blue switch, not an exit.If you tell me otherwise then I must have a personalized copy of the game, because I literally just did this like a few days ago.
For me it's Donut Plains. All those tasty donuts...
>>722488340>not pointmaxxingU R MR GAY
>>722494107This guy fucks.
>>722496869>>722496757Oh yeah I remember now, sorry. Yeah I just started trying every pipe to find the exit.
Feels good
>>722498121>all that deforestation Mario is the real monster. Bowser never did anything as bad as that.
>>722498197He did it for his peoples.
>>722498247Oh yeah I'm sure the Yoshi's will be real pleased with having less forest to roam around in.
>>722485671The movement in SMW is way, waaaay better than 3. It's snappier, the air control is better, and spin jumps allow for all kinds of creative obstacles (even though the base game doesnt make use of it nearly enough)
>>722484563I guarantee you this nigga can't get past the pyramids in SMB3.
>>722494107That Blue Yoshi looks as if it has seen some things...
literally impossible
>>722484563what the fuck does this even mean, mario always had those gay ass maze levels that everyone seems to memory hole, this is just the same shit but you can clear a level so the timer doesnt kill you
>>722484563You haven't said shit about why Forest of Illusion is some paradigm shift.Because, what, it makes it that the alternate exits are the required exits for making progress through the map?Forest of Illusion otherwise doesn't do anything that isn't introduced earlier in the game, where levels have multiple exits and draw new paths and offer non-linear progression. It doesn't do something new, but it does maybe best showcase one of Super Mario World's stand-out features.
>>722485671Only incels and furries say this
>>722484563OP, I can't explain it but I had that same feel as a kid. Even on a replay a unique nostalgia like nothing else hits me when I get to this area. I remember sometimes I would just hang out on the level select screen here and play make believe I was lost in the forest trying to find my way. I actually played in the woods a lot as a kid, so it really captured my imagination in a way I could relate to in my real life.
>>722491064>*capes over the entire grass themed level*
>>722499159>>722485671the base movement of mario got worse with each game starting from the first. each game makes him lighter and lighter, by world he's completely weightless, you can turn on a dime in midair even from a sprint jump. what's the point? I'm not gonna say the game's bad because of it, it's great, but just from a game feel comparison, running in jumping around in 1 feels way more satisfying. more control doesn't inherently equal better control. the reserve item box in world is retarded, it's way too generous to just get a free powerup whenever you take damage, 3 handled reserve items way better.
>>722484563Yes. I wish the levels on the overworld turned yellow when you've discovered all the secrets in them.
>>722488340extra lives were already meaningless by mario 3 anyway. >>722495608I like some of the gba tracks betterhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LHai4RtHiZQhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vKhS8xvaai8
>>722488340It makes sense having them considering how much space there is in SMW stages. The game would feel empty if there wasn't a secondary objective around.
>>722502967>*doesn't cape over the entire grass themed level*feels good man
>>722504153>The game would feel empty if there wasn't a secondary objective around.there's no objective. the game doesn't keep track of how many you collect, and the reward for collecting them is worthless.
>>722504340The game not keeping track of them doesn't mean there isn't an objective. You get 5, they disappear and you gain an extra life. There's optional level design built around picking them.
>>722488340They're shiny and I like collecting stuff. Also points are super fucking useless besides lives (I forget if mario does that) but seeing the numbers pop up is still cool. I don't like how they got rid of that
>>722484563I will never not be bothered by the empty dot in the middle
how were you supposed to know if a boo house had a secret exit or not
>>722504560if the objective is worthless and or meaningless, there's no objective. why waste your time and risk dying dicking around trying to find yoshi coins just to get one measly one up when the game passes them out like candy?
>>722504656the first one has a text box challenging you to find the secret exit, I guess you're supposed to assuem they all have one.
>>722484563>American version dropped the "Super Mario Bros 4"They recognized the series had truly become "Mario's World"
>>722485671You are correct. Solid level design and mechanics are more important than thematic consistency, and SMB3 excels in that while World favors consistency. World isn't bad, but it never reaches the peaks of 3.
>>722504713It's a player challenge, you only risk yourself to pick them because you CAN pick them. I see why you would think the way you do considering they started putting coins that unlock stuff in newer games. But you have to accept there is some stuff that's better left to the player own discretion instead having the game keeping track of every single thing. I don't see how 3D Land/3D World games wanting you to beat every stage with every character adds anything to the game but if the game didn't keep track it would feel natural that some players would want to use every character in the game. Same with jumping on the top of the poles. I think the coins being tracked wouldn't be a bad addition to SMW, I used to even argue that in the past but honestly, I would pick them regardless of this feature so it doesn't really matter now if it tracks or not. My personal take.
>>722484563how the fuck did miyamoto get away with this back then?
>>722495449
>96This bothered me so much that it wasn't 100
I liked how TTYD used SMW's theme as a ringtone. Nods like these are always welcome.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6qze79yt2-0
>>722494258>"CTR" shaderYeah, we know you are a retarded zoomer, it shows. Thats not how CTR looked like.
>>722485671Mario 2 mogs 3 and Yoshi's Island mogs all.
>>722484563SMW is in need of a remaster, if only to more properly theme its stages in each world. Too many of them go for a fairly generic look, or at most throw up a different background or change the color of the ground. If I'm in a forest with illusion magic heavy in the air, I should be in stages that are actually mysterious and heavily forested, populated by more obviously forest-type enemies. A few wigglers and fuzzies isn't going to get it. I still want a SMW hack that removes the feather and adds all the SMB3 powerups to the game.
>>722507386>SMW is in need of a remasterThis poster is in need of being inserted into a woodchipper legs first.
>>722502967Yeah you can also use a funny glitch to immediately skip to the credits if you want.
