You can also check the fan wiki to know how to beat enemies.If you're having a lot of triible, try the sequel instead. Termina is much easier, since the map never changes between runs. Items are still randomized, however.
the faster you move around and grab stuff without fighting, the easier of a time you'll have more generally

The game is actually very short, as soon as you kill the crow nigger and can save on the bed underground, it becomes much easier and you can make progress faster. And you can do it really early too.
