MediEvil has great game design. Maybe not the best controls or the smoothest geometry, but the philosophy behind its difficulty curve is near pitch perfect. If you don't keep up with getting chalices, you will get wrecked sooner rather than later since you won't have optimal tools. The game assumes you're going to actually fucking play it and to me, that's great game design.
