Why did the n64 age so bad? Even games like mario 64 are a hideous blurry laggy mess with shit controls compared to klonoa
>>722500270When is the last time you challenged a friend to couch multiplayer Goldeneye & Mario Kart 64
games don't age you fucking retarded zoomer
>>722500417>uhhhh ackually technically...Neck yourself autist
>being surprised games that ran like shit aged like shitwoah...
>>722500402Within the last 2 years for MK64. It was right after we played the original Mario Kart and he thought MK64 was a significant improvement.
>>722500417This. The Shitty4 always sucked ass
>>722500270>Written by womanOpinion into the fucking garbage.
GoldenEye really is something that only can be appreciated at the time it released.Almost every FPS released after trumps it
>>722500270>CBRRetarded faggot site.
>>722500270>mario 6429 years old and still best in class. How did they do it?
>>722500924Not really. You have a couple more good Bond games, Perfect Dark, and Timesplitters. After that FPS games abandoned the multi objective format and went totally on rails in CoD, Halo, and a couple Half Life games.
Maybe Goldeneye just because fps on console is jank as fuck to begin with but everything else? Naaaaah.
>>722500924Goldeneye was only ever impressive for tendies because they had never played any other FPS games. Quake came out a year prior and it has aged infinitely better.
>>722501194>Quake came out a year prior and it has aged infinitely better.Clearly not, since nobody gives a shit about your boomer shooter anymore.
>>722501194lol nobody plays quake
>>722501194Quake, Duke3D and turok are on both PC and N64. That doesn't change the fact that goldeneye 007 is still a great game.
>>722500270n64 is the only retro console I struggle to go back to. PlayStation, Saturn, PC Engine, Famicom, you name it I play em all but 64? I boot a game up and in 10 minutes my brain is glazing over and I'm nodding off. They're not good games. Gen X was on too many drugs in the 90s, these games blow chunks.
>>722501265I’m not even a Quakefag but you’re genuinely delusional if you think that Goldeneye has aged better than it. Even Doom which was 3 years old when Goldeneye came out has aged better.
>>722501194no one cares about doomslop, your shitty proto assfaggots, or any other mediocre dogshit """"classic"""" pc game. your entire platform was worthless until 2012, pclard
>>722500270It's the same games thought "unplayable" by the exact same audience when it was released. The only difference is "NINTENDO!? FUCK YOU!!" which, unremarkably, remains present in 2025.Your thread is now hidden.
I think this is the list. Im not going to follow the link to check.Turok: Dinosaur HunterJet Force GeminiDoom 64Conker's Bad Fur DayGoldenEye 007The Original Mario PartySuperman 64Mission ImpossibleCommand & ConquerOgre Battle 64: Person of Lordly Caliber
Hasn't this already been established? Every time someone asks about Goldeneye they're told to play the PC emulation of it because it controls better.
>>722501413>Even Doom which was 3 years old when Goldeneye came out has aged better. We are reaching peak retardation
>>722501413Remember a few years ago when goldeneye was coming out on switch and xbone and every goldeneye fag was bragging about how the world is gonna see how it's really done? Then it came out and was an improved version of the game but everyone instantly decided it was shit.
>>722501194Goldeneye is still played and loved today, meanwhile all the PC players moved from Quake to play gacha
>>722501413Quake sucks, the engine is good and that part is more lasting than Goldeneye but Quake sucks.
>>722501432TRVKE. Peecee only became relevant when it could emulate superior 64 games in 2012, and it’s still to O weak to play most accurately.
I just hated the controls on the switch versions
>>722500270Goldeneye was unplayable crap even back in the 90s. Everything else is fine
>>722500270>I believe clickbaitI'm so sorry for your profound mental retardation, OP.As I am ashamed of the autism which forces me to respond to your low-quality post instead of allowing you to be wrong.
>>722501554>Goldeneye is still played and loved today, lol no
Space Station Silicon Valley is a 10/10 still
>>722501517Yes, that's why there's still a huge active mod community and games still being made in the doom everyone like Selaco. Where are all the cool new Goldeneye engine games?
>le heckin shiny graphics!filtered
>>722501786>that's why there's still a huge active mod communityWe are talking about the vanilla game, DOOM is so dogshit it needs mods just to be PLAYABLE
>>722501194I liked the golden eye on the ps2 I played co op wiith my brothers the powers were more fun than cod
>>722500270Playing Goemon now and its great. Also DK, Mario 64, Zelda still hold their own
Its completely ridiculous to say Zelda OOT is unplayable today. Its controls basically the same as a Dark Souls game. You click to target the enemy and strafe around them.
>>722500270changing the controls in the emulator is kind of annoying but its not so bad after i wanted to get one of the 64 style controllers but i was worried it would be garbage and a waste of money
four player splitscreen at 12fps with one analog stick just doesn't hit right in 2025
Zelda looks better on Switch 2
This is their lists:10. Yoshi's Story (shit gameplay)9. Space Station Silicon Valley (buggy)8. Mario Kart 64 (weak entry with bad tracks)7. Excitebike 64 (repetitive with shit performance)6. Turok (fog and shit controls)5. Jet Force Gemini (shit controls)4. Doom 64 (too dark)3. Conker's Bad Fur Day (shit gameplay)2. Goldeneye (shit graphics, shit controls, shit performance)1. Mario Party (blisters)This list is a joke.
>>722502187yea we don't need split screen to reach 12fps now
Hmm Curious. Then how is it that most of my favourite games are from the n64 and ps1 gen or beforehand? Zelda OOT and MMMario 64Starfox 64Metal Gear Solid 1Resident Evil 1,2 and 3
>>722501194Quake had great movement but I actually got issues with just how much fucking health everything had because they couldn't trust pcs at the time to have very many creatures in maps so they had to beef up their health to compensate. I think Half life was when you really started to see greatness in non sprite based shooters
I don't give a single shit about Goldeneye, but Mario Kart 64 plays just fine.
>>722500270Everything has aged poorly.
>>722502426Barney Boys are just a bunch of faggots
>>722502426Ok, that's a decent list overall.
>>722502710People say that but then watch old Top Gear episodes instead of the ones with... not-Clarkson/Hammond/May
>>722502426Kart has great tracks though, there's a reason their Rainbow Road got brought back, and I thought JFG was pretty decent on control scheme for a tps on the 64
Crap like Assassin's Creed feel dated even though they're brand new.
>>722502426>no Banjo KazooieI wish that Jontron video was never made. It took 1 video for revisionists to believe that garbage was enjoyable. >>722501981>take 3 steps then backtrack to the barrel still holds its own
I've never understood the logic behind saying a 30 game is bad because it has bad graphics.
>>722501194you just know /v/ is nintendogaf by just the reply to this post.
>>722500270Zoomers literally can't play these old school games because they're "too hard" and don't hold your hand like new titles. When's the last time you saw a zoomer or younger go through Ghosts n Goblins, Ninja Gaiden trilogy, etc? You fucking haven't because they can't.
>>722503874this generation is fucked because they cant even use toasters too
>>722503159it is because it does
>>722500270Hot take: N64 games always kind of sucked. How many N64 games did you really hear anybody talk about? There was Mario 64, there were the two Zelda titles, there was Goldeneye. Any maybe you heard about Star Fox 64. But anything else? Zelda's best gimmick was the Z-targetting control method, which became irrelevant once people started using twinsticks for camera control. And Goldeneye was big because it was a FPS on a console controller. Most games on N64 were considered good because of Nintendo cope, since the system didn't have many games on it.It was a fine system, but the library selection was always crap and a lot of the most revolutionary aspects have been overshadowed by today's metrics. It's not surprising that there isn't much reason to still play it outside Super Mario 64 speedruns.
I had a N64 when it came out and iwas 12.I polayed ooT like 4 times, MAreio 64, Mario KArt 64, lylat Wars (the german version was called this its called Star Fox 64) atleast 12 timesi wouldnt play any of thgese games today because they aged TERRIBLY
>>722500402Mk64 was a staple of beerio kart for years. The dated controls and low fps make goldeneye a tougher game. Smash 64 was a popular one amongst friends too.
How come they endure, nay, thrive even 30 years later?
Mario 64 and the Zeldas have aged very well.Goldeneye is basically unplayable on modern gamepads and was only hailed as a masterpiece because it was the first console FPS, it's just not that fun, meanwhile in OOT you can still appreciate the design of basically all of the Adult Link dungeons even in 2025.
>>722500270mk64 is still the best mk
>>722506216'cuz when you shoot people with a red shell they go flying high up into the air, possibly over a railing and into a pit. It's like snowboard kids, it's satisfying.
>>722500417this. it either always sucked or was always good.
How long until Gamecube games are unplayable bros?
>>722506808ca minus 24 years
>>722500270Not unplayable just unbearable dogshit compared to what we have today. T. zoomer
>>722500270and this is why these niggers deserve to lose their jobs
>>722500402Like 5 years ago
>>722500270Honest question: how can any grown adult tolerate playing sm64 for more than a few minutes?Mario screams with each button you press.Music consists of high-pitched doots and beeps.Everything about this game feels infantile, in the way you'd feel when watching a cartoon made for toddlers.
>>722501194They hated him because he spoke the truth
>>722507374We used to make fun of people like you here. I don't know what changed to allow your kind to breed.
I would say yes most N64 games aged badly but Mario 64 and Zelda OOT/MM are still fine.
>>722507497Electionfags priding themselves on their own shit opinions
>>722507497>AD HOMINEM >NO ARGUMENT
>>722507374>how can any grown adult tolerate playing sm64 for more than a few minutes?not everyone develops crippling autism as they age.
>>722500270Aren’t all games unplayable to these journalists?
>>722500270They are perfectly playable after you play them for a couple hours and get used to them. Playing on a CRT helps with the graphics.
>>722502086It's more the camera that's unpleasant than the controls. The controls are only annoying later on when you're constantly swapping items. The Water Temple is infamous for a reason.
>>722507497There's a difference between a game like Spyro and SM64. Both are made for children, but the former doesn't have that infantile audiovisual design tailored to grab attention of toddlers. But of course it's easier for you to make a strawman like "if you find sm64 infantile you must only like mature shooter games" because you'd have no argument to make otherwise.
>>722508045Bro literally has an autism tantrum because of bing bing wahoos.
>>722501404They went all in with 3D graphics when the technology just wasn't there yet. 3D improved by leaps and bounds in just a few years and by the next generation we were playing games that made the N64 feel 100 years old.At least with the PS1 you had CD's that allowed for high quality audio and high resolution textures with pre rendered backgrounds and full motion video that is very nostalgic today, even if the 3D graphics weren't as good as the N64.
>>722500917this"literally unplayable" translates to "I refuse to play this"
>>722503159Not just the graphics. The gameplay is really rough as well. The physics is too primitive to make something like a 3D platforms work, so trying to play Mario or Donkey Kong is needlessly frustrating. It's made worse by the retarded controller design with the shitty analog stick.
>>722501194This is one of the least controversial opinions I've seen. Its like pretending doom doesn't surpass goldeneye. PC used to be practically defined by first person perspective in its major releases. Is it that shocking they're better at it?
>>722500270Goldeneye is really fun on that 1964 emulator.
>>722501786>Where are all the cool new Goldeneye engine games? You retard, Doom is easy to mod, even before the source code was made public.>>722501882>DOOM is so dogshit it needs mods just to be PLAYABLEYou rretard, Doom vanilla is immensely replayable.
>>722508487To be fair Nintendo spent like 10 months perfecting SM64's controls. If you want an early 3D game with truly atrocious physics, give Glover a go.
>>722508498It has a 96 on Metacritic and won GOTY awards over the likes of Symphony of the Night, Diablo, FF7.Goldeneye is such a trivial game so it's just funny to see how much journos jacked it off back in the day.
>>722507497t.tendie feeling called out
>>722508913That seems fucking criminal, but we can still see that behavior occasionaly repeated today.
these threads are funny.
>>722508913>won GOTY awards over the likes of Symphony of the Night, Diablo, FF7.deserved.
>>722501194nobody even gives a shit about quake past its technical innovations in the engine. even games built on its engine would widely deviate from the original game's design. HL and other ID tech games? they didnt even bother mimicking most of its single player elements. even teh sequels deviate significantly in other directions SP wise. even the MP just sputtered away like a fart in the wind after the third game.but goldeneye? people would rip off mechanics, from the aiming system, locational damage, or stealth aspects (alarms, camera shooting, stealth segments, etc.) from it nearly a whole decade after its release in fps games, within in its own series, and other games (medal of honor, timesplitters, perfect dark, deus ex, red faction, etc.)its impact on game designers was far larger than quake out of sheer quantity and scale due to it being a massive hit. not sure why people pretend that it wasn't barring 'i dislike it, my bias will make me deny anything i perceive positive about it'
The problem I have with old hardware is terrible video output. Default outputs of n64 look absolute shit, you'd have to have HDMI modded n64 to get good image, I think. Either that or I need to get an upscaler. It's the same problem with og xbox, I bought that small thing MVG recommended in his og xbox mod vid, basically very to use xbox 2 hdmi adapter or something. It's better that nintendo but it's still not something I'd like to play.
>>722510482the people who shills on N64 inferior ports are mostly nintendoga/v/ pisscord tourists. And as always, the only saving grace at nintendo consoles were idSoftware and Capcom
>>722510738This. Gaben played Goldeneye and basically had the team revamp a bunch of shit for Half-Life (most notably the AI).The game was a fresh new take on the FPS genre.
>>722511074lol
You are forgetting the most overrated game of all time..
>>722501490I would maybe agree with this list. but some of them more on different accounts.. Golden eye is playable, but you'd rather play Perfect dark if it's an option.
>>722512708I remember playing TP and thinking "oh wow this is like they didn't understand OOT at all and thought it was just bigger maps = more fun."
>>722500270But OOT is millennial core

Based banjo not on the list. Literally aged like a fine wine.
