This, not to mention 2 consoles of various generations. Perhaps if they all shit out and I have the money I'd buy one but I'd probably just get another pc.

Not all of them. Maybe all your PC games up to and including PS4-gen ones, but there is an increasing number of current-gen-only games which are too demanding and won't run on the Deck or won't be playable enough.
Such as Doom The Dark Ages

>>722509195
It's the meme tracing that allows tendies to shitpost over it. The switch2 can just barely do some raytracing because it has a few rt cores while the deck doesn't. But of course they'll ignore the deck mogging the switch2 into the dirt in every other aspect. They can have outlaws, lol, a game everyone shat on and they'll never actually buy or play, just shitpost.

>>
>>722511420

I wouldn't go that far. It's an underpowered Linux distro at heart and that comes with severe drawbacks. If you're looking for a complete PC turnkey solution you're better off with a Rog Ally or something.
>>
>>722511786
It's only $350 more than the OLED, which is the only version you should be getting. Not an issue if you're not poor. If you are then yeah, stick with your shitty underpowered blurry LCD tablet.
>>
>>722501228
LCD for £279 or OLED for £479
Which way, /v/?
>>
>pay premium price for suboptimal hardware
>I don't travel anywhere
The intersection point where performance and battery life I want would be sold at a price I would like does not exist economically. Being sold a 5070 on the go for $500 would be an insane deal and of course it will never be real unless it comes at a time when the 8090 is out and making that look like an utter joke
>>
>>722512000
OLED is a huge difference and you get more battery life.

so my recommendation is whatever you can afford, both are good options. If you are rich go OLED.
>>
>>722512000
Depends om your financial situation. LCD Deck is still ridiculously good for the price, but the OLED is a solid upgrade.
>>
>>722511827
I guess, but still, it offers a wide variety of solutions that make it a proper PC, while the Switch 2 is a specialized Game Machine, doesn't even offer streaming services(not like I want them tho)

I can't really recommend the LCD to anyone in this day and age. Incredibly underpowered, worse screen than the Switch 2, and just a mediocre battery life. There's a reason Valve is putting it on sale and not the OLED ie. the one that's actually good.

>>
>>722510883
>has a few rt cores while the deck doesn't
Switch 2 and Steam Deck can BOTH do some limited amount of hardware ray tracing.
In the early days of the Deck people were impressed with how it could run Metro Exodus Enhanced with its RTGI pretty well, comparable to the Series S version
>>
>>722501228
Bruh you used the same image I did for my steam deck thread.

You are a Nintendo fanboy. The only reason you even go after PC is because you think the audience is arrogant because you're a Nintendo fanboy. Which just perpetuates the arrogance lorded over you.
>>
>>722511827
I wouldn't mind the ROG Ally if it had the trackpads. The price isn't a problem for me, but I constantly switch between gaming and desktop mode on the Deck, so I'd like to have the option of using mouse controls on handheld mode.

The ROG Ally can use eGPUs, right? I have a few spare AMD and Nvidia GPUs, so I've been thinking about making a dock that can hold a GPU and hard drive. I hope the Deck 2 has eGPU support.

I thought that too and then I got older and realised I don't want to sit at my desk all day. Sometimes it's nice to just sit on the sofa and be comfy playing games.
>>
>>722512440
>worse screen than the Switch 2
Let's not get too ahead of ourselves.
>>
>>722512721
I'm not sure why you would need to switch to desktop mode often and not just say in gaming/big picture mode, but if you really must have a trackpad than the legion go is a good option. Personally I never cared for it since I used my Ally as an actual gaming handheld so I just had it boot to steam picture. I only went into desktop mode to pirate games and on the rare chance I was doing actual work on it I just plugged in a mouse.

>The ROG Ally can use eGPUs, right?
Yes but it's proprietary so you need to use an XG compatible one. Only the Ally X and XBox Ally work with normal egpus.

>>722512927

I didn't really have any issues using touch screen to install simple games like that and emulators are singlehandedly installed through emudeck anyways. But honestly I don't see myself going through a skyrim modlist on the deck's trackpads either. That's a "plug in the damn mouse" scenario.

>I hope it's possible to install Steam OS and still have egpu compatibility.
Steam OS is possible at least so it's something.

>Deck 2
Estimates put it at 2+ years out. If you wanted a handheld it's better to just grab something now as the value proposition just gets lower and lower every year with an increasingly aging Deck and tariffs hitting the new handhelds hard.

I use nightly versions of emulators, which aren't on discovery/flatpak. I don't like Nu-handhelds, because they're not portable nor very handheld, it's a worse way to play already existing games, while in the past handhelds were its own entire experience, with their own games, and features, PSP, Vita, 3DS, etc.
I can't ever see my self owning a steam-deck or one of the many equivalents of them, even the switch I got when it was new I barely used, because if you undock the thing it just becomes a worse way to play any of the games that are on it.

It's fair because the Deck is competing in mobile gaming with the Switch, and if that's what you're in the market for then whether the steam deck shares optimization problems with desktops is a non issue.

Of course the Deck has other benefits that the Nintendo lacks but that's besides the point

My phone is lower end so I wouldn't be able to play much on it beyond old roms and shitty mobile games outside of streaming
