The giant eel in the shipwreck on the first mission scared me so much. Still freaks my nut out to this day.

First PC game I ever played back in like 98? I wish I could play it today but never could get it to work on a modern OS.

I still have the discs.

Are you A Dino Crisis 3 Virgin?

Seriously though not really rare or obscure, everyone says it sucks and when I press them on it they admit they never played it. In reality they got filtered hard, this is the God Hand of survival horror.

I’m a massive Goosebumps fan and this game is a bit of a guilty pleasure. There’s a behind the scenes documentary of the making of the game and it shows an amazing look at the werewolf animatronic and all the miniature sets. There was a surprising amount of effort and talent involved. Spielberg, Goldblum, & Rossellini.

Were any of these books good or was it just the covers?

their tv show scared me as a kid

the tv show was such a cringefest that i'm willing to believe it was secretly produced as a joke

The books are more known for their creative ideas and batshit twists than anything. They’re 120 pages at most and made for elementary schoolers, so for most people it isn’t good by default. There could be scary and some actually dark moments if you know what you’re looking for (the second book literally has the main character slitting her father’s wrists). I describe it as “popcorn horror” where it’s more entertaining than actually scary. Like a Scooby-Doo episode.

But yeah the covers are goddamn amazing. Glad I met Tim Jacobus, I got 4 books signed and an original sketch.

Most of what I mentioned above applies to the show as well. The Haunted Mask is seared into my brain but I can’t get through most episodes without an ironic laugh. Once again, there are actual good moments (mainly the haunted mask and werewolf of fever swamp).

The makeup though is outstanding for a kids show if it’s time, I’ll admit.

Shoestring 90s budget made in Canada based on 120 page books. Of course it’s not high quality.

Some were genuinely good campy horror reads, some were godawful and some were just batshit insane, especially towards the end of the run.

The covers were always amazing, although some were definitely misleading, pic related

They're perfectly fine as a little kid's first horror themed books, they're short and breezy and have just enough gruesomeness to feel "cool" for a 4-7 year old to be reading without being inappropriate.

There's some really retarded ones in there especially later on but the first 30 or so had decent ideas.
Great covers do a lot of lifting though.

I played the demo as a kid, pretty sure I had no idea how to actually play but the game still felt really fascinating to me. Never played the full version.

You're not alone.
It's a shame that the units were ridiculously unbalanced.

The ones I read were pretty good for kids' books. Would you get a lot out of them as an adult? Probably not. I remember reading the Horror at Camp Jellyjam and Attack of the Mutant. They were more weird than scary.

This was a common phenomenon for RTS games
