I was in a similar situation. My sector in the company did a massive fuck up and the CEO gave each of us a stern talking down. I have been unhappy there for years now, so even though I'm not eligible for severance pay, I was hoping he would just let me go, but then I find out that he just doesn't really care, and has actually given me more work to do; and not meaningless shit, actual work that needs to be done by competent people (which I am not)

My company is slowly dying due to folks being complete divas. Nobody wants to be responsible for anything, so crucial work gets shifted around constantly instead of getting done. We delay orders, we get our customers angry and they order elsewhere. It feels like people are either too indifferent or too stupid to care. They clock in, do the absolute minimum and go home. New orders keep drying up while everyone's infighting and playing the blaming game. I can see the company dying in real-time.

Yeah, I decided that I wanted to leave after the vice president got let go. After the most recent board meeting in August they weren't happy with the sales figures and so a sacrifice had to be made. The VP mostly just did social media and public relations work so her value was kind of dubious and was therefore an obvious target. That being said, she was employee #2(I'm #3) and she wasn't actually getting paid all that much to begin with so I thought it was just kind of needlessly cruel. I'm the obvious next target since I'm a relatively expensive PhD scientist and since our product has already launched they technically don't need someone to do a bunch of fancy R&D, they could probably get away with doing little improvements here and there and have it spearheaded by the engineering people.

I will be doing mine for 10 years this months but it has been invaded by useless cunts and söys and at this point me and a handful of other older employees are pretty much doing everything while 80% of the team just sits in meetings and at lunch and bosses your around. For now im only doing a 9am to 2pm thing, but still, the fact that it restricts my sleep schedule its annoying as fuck.

I've done nights for coming up 2 years and if you've got a social life and fitness goals then you're probably going to struggle to adapt. I really do enjoy my job and where I work, my hours are flexible and for being in the Southeast US the pay is incredible. I just sometimes worry it was a mistake to move up to managing a lab and technicians.

The lab's kind of had a rocky past with managers since around the time I started. I've been having a go of it. I've finally gotten an actual wagie job that actually pays decently and is specifically paying me for licenses that can give me far better jobs (SIE and the Series 6 license, and they'll pay me to get the Series 7 which lets me get into real /biz/ shit plus whatever Comptias I ask for in case I want to go IT instead) but all the studying for the licenses has been draining me. I agree with the rest of your post but I am gonna say this is becoming harder and harder. More and more cars actually worth a shit that are used are being hoarded by boomer "I know what I got"s that upcharge everything and the only time you find reasonable clunker prices you're typically actually getting shit just a hair away from being scrapped. I bought a 112k mile 2004 car for $1500 (negotiated down from $1900) and I ended up having to sink another $2400 into repairs (Suspension was fucked, electronics all needed to be replaced) and that's still not everything (need to realign tires, replace wipers, unfuck the wiper fluid sprayers, radio doesn't fucking work beyond being a charging port, etc). It drives fine, but it was the only car in the area even close to something that was considered normal 20 years ago. Everything else is triple the price with probably just as many if not more problems.

The car bubble is almost as bad as the housing bubble right now. Everything's turned into a hoarding speculator market.

It's semi-seasonal. Biotech is really capital intensive so when interest rates are low there's lots of options and when interest rates are high there a fewer options. Interest rates are high in the US right now compared to most peer nations so the job market isn't amazing right now. The good news is that compensation for the type of work I do is very generous so I've been able to build my war chest up over the last 6 years or so and I can afford to take time off. A lot of people are expecting interest rates to go down in the next couple of years for any number of different reasons so I'm optimistic about things in the long term.

Some (or most) people just don't really save money. Most people never realize that they can get free money from retirement accounts, long-term investments, and CDs (which is now just barely enough to keep up with inflation because the economy is a joke, but that's beside the point). So they just never actually grow their savings. This isn't a criticism of them, either, it's just how a lot of people are wired and there's never anybody or anything to teach them to be more conscious of their finances. Especially because the entire financial industry is designed to be as confusing and opaque as possible in order to fleece more money out of normal people that aren't psychotic investment golems.

The issue is this is like saying "buy bitcoin at the dip" - it was viable about 15+ years ago but if you're getting in now your options are shit. You get low-credit investments that still inexplicably have stupid low interest rates if you go corpo and if you go treasury you're gambling on if the government doesn't default in the next 30 years and odds are fucking high we're in the same situation as Russia when they had to change from Soviet to modern Rubles.
