did you forget BIS existed?

BIS isn't as good but that one is still worth the play

it kinda feels like that on mario game that was something else at first and they repurposed into a mario game and that's why it was so good

Sprites used for passport photos in Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga + Bowser’s Minions, extracted from the game’s files. While the original Game Boy Advance version had many more than 5 different expressions (as they depended on location, direction pressed, and story progression), it simply reused sprites from other scenes in the game. The remake reduces the expressions to 5 for each character, but gives each of them unique sprites used only on the passports.

was the 3ds remake worth playing if this one is readily available? any quality of life changes or just sort of muh graphics and 3d
>>
>>722518958
I'd say so, it's a weird situation where the SSS remake is better than the BiS remake but the "side mode" is better in the latter.

This game is overrated as fuck

>>722519246
in what way?

Nowhere near as good as the original and started the trend of bros attacks being 30+ second minigames.

oof. I was considering playing it but this is an instant turn off

Brothership got unnecessary hate just because people are anti-nintendo now.
>>
>>722520105
I heard it was more pacing issues and the moves lasting way too long. Was it good?
>>
>>722520105
No, it's one of the most padded and soulless games I've ever finished. And the padding isn't even just the beginning. Even the end of the game is filled with tedious shit that goes on longer than it needs to.

The humor and energy aren't there either. The other M&L games have pretty fun moments and good dialogue to compensate for the lack of story, but it's a complete afterthought in this game. There is no entertainment value to any of the characters, they exist solely to pad the game.
>>
>>722520496
No, mainly because of those things you listed
>>
superstar saga and paper mario 64 are the best mario rpgs

BIS is gay fetish bait and not funny
TTYD is extremely overrated and the only good thing about it is the audience in battles which to be fair is a great mechanic

>because people are anti-nintendo
Genuine question, why do Nintendo fans act like rape victims on the behalf of brand these days? Anyway, it was disliked by M&L fans who found its pacing, mechanics, writing, ect. ect. to be incredibly poor compared to earlier installments. I wanted a kickass revival as much as anyone, but this wasn't it.
>>
>>722518310
I started this game recently and the first few hours are an agonizing slog of tutorials. What the fuck were they thinking?
Also fuck the block frenchoid, i hate that character so much.
>>
>>722518310
I loved Superstar Saga and I liked Partners in Time. I had to drop BIS around halfway through and I wasn't even offended by the weird stuff, I just wasn't enjoying it.
>>
>>722520105
I keep trying to play this but man is it kind of meh. I'll pop it in now. The regular attacks are all bros attacks now which is kind of cool. The battle plugs needing recharging is yeah I guess that checks out. The bro moves being items kind of sucks though. Did Alphadream make something else and then make it mario?
>>
>>722518958
The 3ds remake is just plain better, you get
>widescreen
>Better, more satisfying battle animations in line with DT and PJ
>Better music like Jokes End
>Refined battle system in line with the newest games at the time.
>Better boss balancing.
It's great, even better than the og, it did suffer from Nintendo's bland era erasure, some characters are lacking costumes and they added NSMB ugly hills to the intro, but other than that, it's the best version. Geno aint in it either for his 1 second cameo
>>
>>722518109
Lightning in a bottle. The reason SSS was good was because battles and animations were quick and snappy, only a few bosses had attacks that lasted longer than 2-3 seconds and couldnt be canceled out of with a well-timed counter. In later games both attacks and defense are elaborate minigames that last upwards of 10, 20 seconds of animation despite not actually having complex input cycles.
>>
>>722518310
It's dogshit, man. Just give it up already.
>>
>>722520105
I loved this game, but I loved this game for it's level design and battle gameplay. The actual story is pretty good, but the characters are the worst part about it, 80% of them are ugly and bland. I need them to remember M&L characters are better when they are entertaining retards like the Massif Bros. Needed more Extension Trios, Great Conductors and Zokkets, the plug people are disgusting and bland when they are recolored on the other seas. It's tied for Super Star Saga for me.
>>
Go play Tomato Adventure folks, great game.

They knew what they were doing beforehand, but Nintendo showed them how to tighten up the screws. Now imagine a world where they took those lessons and went back to developing their own IPs again instead of kneeling to Mario.
>>
I expect the next Mario & Luigi to be better again. Since Brothership was more a safe game so M&L doesn't die.
But they finally need the creative freedom of Super Mario RPG and Paper Mario 2 remakes got. The devs were still stuck with generic looking Mario characters and enemies.
Brothership was long in dev hell because Alpha Dream went bankruptcy. It really feels it was supposed to release much earlier. I hate when games try their hardest to be safe.
Find toads having no age or gender very retarded.
>>
Bros. Moves were what carried it. They lasted 2-3 seconds and each move had different difficulties you could do for higher risk/reward. Everything else after it has the shitty Bros. items where the move is a minigame that lasts 10-20 seconds that takes waaayyyy too long. Also Mario using fire and Luigi using lightning was cool.
>>
>>722518310
Where the hell does the love for this game come from? I've tried to play this game 3 separate times and have dropped it every single time. Furthest I got was Fawful/Bowser's Castle. The overworld is Bowser fighting the same enemy of the area over and over again. The inside sections are Mario and Luigi doing the longest, most tedious minigames in the series' history. It's boring. It has cool ideas and Bowser is fun to play as at first, but the enemy encounters are insanely repetitive. I think each area has maybe 2 different enemies at most.

They were ex-squaresoft. So maybe like with Final Fantasy they saw some success and then they just kept rocketing up the production values until their money maker became a financial liability.

When they went bankrupt Dream Team had sold 2.5m and Paper Jam had sold 1million and they said that their income couldn't keep up with development costs and the $4million in loans. So they must have took out those massive loans presuming that Dream Team was guaranteed to sell 4million like Bowser's Inside Story.

Then when it didn't they spiralled because Paper Jam was just re-using Sticker Star assets, and the remakes were quick and dirty remakes that didn't even use the 3DS 3D effect.

PIT is better.
BIS is better.
DT is better.
>>
>try to pick anything up as bowser
>uh oh you have to do a minigame now start hitting those balls
>try to eat something
>minigame time better mash the touchscreen now
>fight coming up
>uh oh you have to stimulate bowser's prostate
>do any kind of bros attack
>time to spend an entire minute doing dumb bullshit

I seriously don't get the love for BIS.
>>
>>722524736
there are two people who really REALLY like the part where bowser eats a lot of food and have decided that this scene makes the game a 9/10
>>
>>722518109
I don't really see how the issues with the other games stem from a lack of production value
>>
>>722524736
It's not good. I bought it day 1 as a huge fan even of the 2nd game which people seem to dislike. The level design is boring because Bowser has no vertical moves until the very end of the game. There are also way too many shitty mini-games you play over and over.
>>
>>722524736
I played it as a kid and liked the music.
>>
>>722522978
definitely going to play this
>>
>>722525805
The only song I can remember off the top of my head is the crappy minigame theme because you hear it all the time.
>>
>>722526023
You can't recall the various battle themes? Or Bumpsy Plains ones? That tea break one was also pleasant.
>>
>>722526154
Before the other day, the last time i played the game was on release. also i just started a new playthrough and i'm only a couple hours in so there's a flood of minigames
>>
>>722526318
The whole game is a bunch of minigames... it never stops
>>
brothership feels like they doubled down on the things people disliked about PJ
>>
I wish DT had had no tutorial spam and bro/dream attacks that did not last for 5905930945 minutes, the boss fights were a lot of fun.
>>
>>722527461
Remove the gyro battles too, it makes hard mode a chore having to watch 3 minute long cutscenes every time you want to try the boss

If it’s worth anything it seems to be a failure in all regards. Hopefully it kills the series for good. On track to be on the right timeline
>>
>>722518109
>>722518310
99% of the appeal of these games, and paper mario, is that they were genuinely baby's first RPG and most kids were too stupid to understand you had to level and not run away from fights. Due to this, they spent a shit ton of time looking around the world for alternative things to do when they would get stuck, which is why so many praise "world building" in these games. Play SSS today, its not that good of an RPG and the overworld puzzles get really annoying. That's why this game >>722520105, gets a very lukewarm response in comparison, despite having stronger battle gameplay than the rest of the series (case in point, look what he says about the story >>722522918)
>>
>>722518310
I think it's insane how many people are replying to this saying they dislike the game, and not only that, but claiming they like PiT over it, it feels like I'm in some bizarro world.
Actually I keep seeing this trend with quite a few games too, like Zelda Twilight Princess and Fire Emblem Fates (which people argue didn't have that bad of a story/characters lol)

I'd argue zeekeeper is worse, you have to tilt all around the screen to avoid orbs and then swipe down fast to get 2 hits in, if you fail which takes about 5 hits to die, you have to sit through his cutscene again.
>>
>>722525296
>fight coming up
>uh oh you have to stimulate bowser's prostate
Heh, this cracks me up at how accurate it is
>>
>>722527987
I don't think the overworld or overworld puzzles are that bad in Brothership. The problem is the pacing is really fucking bad. There are four seas and the entire first sea is a tutorial and I don't think the game even truly picks up until you get to the last one.
>>
>>722528095
It's full of gimmick mini-games, introduced the shitty giant battles, has no platforming on the overworld (besides like 2 small areas meant for M&L), bowser combat is boring since he's so overpowered. What does it do better than PiT? Literally nothing
>>
>>722527927
>failure in all regards
I doubt it's a failure, it's probably just so-so. It sold just shy of 2 million which puts it at 4th best selling behind BIS, DT and SSS. If it has legs then it can overtake SSS since it's 1.97 mil vs 2.15 mil. It's enough where they probably aren't rushing to make another but will probably make another one some day.
>>
>>722518109
SSS isn't even that good. I replayed it and I realized half of the game is a "that part" and I haven't touched it since.
>>
>>722522740
The attacks are so brain dead too. Use trampoline in PiT and the battle is over. Way easier to counter an enemy's attack too. Nintendo never recovered after dumbing things down in the DS and Wii era.
>>
>>722529006
I refuse to believe anybody can enjoy Teehee Valley's escort, or the ocean's shitty movement that stops you from swimming too high for no reason.
>>
TTYD gameplay, M&L writing and characters, Super RPG pacing
>>
>>722529384
What about graphics? 2D sprites, Paper Mario, or 3D platformer graphics?

the 3d graphics in brothership allow for better cameras but the issue is that they lack detail, if it had more effort into the textures it would probably be the best looking one, origami king is 3d and it's a treat on the eyes
