What was the deal with the Ringed City? I know it was separated from the Age of Fire/Dark, but what happened to it after Filianore woke up? Does the fight with Slave Knight Gael take place at the end of the Dark Souls universe?
For that matter, is the Dreg Heap also at the end of the universe?
>>
its contrived "we don't care to write anything of of substance and don't know how to end it in a way worthy of the grand finale so lets just wrap it up" slop
>>
>>722519696
Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the ending. The end of DS3 was already fitting enough, and the DLC introducing a way out of the cycle was like a cherry on top to the end.
>>
>>722519974
>pigment of the blood of the dark soul
no this fanfic tier writing is not fitting as the ending of a great trilogy.
>>
>>722519265
All speculation. It's apparently an illusion. Touching/opening the egg shows you that everything is over, world died. Getting the bloodbornesoul gives the dragon girl the material to create a new world and the cycle will repeat itself.
>>
>>722519265
>Dreg Heap also at the end of the universe?
Rather the end (state) of the world(s).
>>
>>722519265
Filianore and her egg were keeping the city in stasis, somehow, however it clearly wasn't perfect, as you could see the influence the abyss/darkness had on the city before you woke her up. (and Filianore herself, note the dark roots around her eyes and how eroded the egg is.)

When you wake her up and the egg crumbles, eons pass in a minute, and the ringed city joins the rest of the world at the end of the age of fire. Those are the ruins of Anor Londo and Lothric Castle you see in the distance.
>>
>>722519265
The city is at the end of time. The world is collapsing in on itself, at the center is the Ringed City which is an illusion.
>no, it's actually frozen in time
>no, it's a spell keeping you from seeing the truth
Unimportant. As far as the plot is concerned they're the same thing. What matters is that the city is a lie meant to distract from the inevitable; that's why it references Angel's Egg. It's thematic instead of literal.
>what happened to it after Filianore woke up?
The dream ended, she and the player faced reality
>Does the fight with Slave Knight Gael take place at the end of the Dark Souls universe?
Yes. No matter what ending you get the world is eventually ground into dust
>is the Dreg Heap also at the end of the universe?
It's on the edge. Eventually it'll get dusted too.
>>
>>722523546
Pretty sure that's wrong and touching the egg is revealing the truth or banishing the illusion. Unsure how I know that, been a long time. >>722525392
The world is on the tree, there's even a picture.
>same thing
Why exactly?
>future of earth
Recently read that we are done for anyway pretty soon. Reading that I'm pretty sure life repeats itself and civilisations come and go. 10k years is nothing and we will be wiped very soon, on cosmological time scale that is. Who knows how many grand empires were on this planet?
>>
>>722521545
>Getting the bloodbornesoul gives the dragon girl the material to create a new world and the cycle will repeat itself
Is this just an allegory for Miyazaki getting the funds to create souls clones after souls clones?
>>
>>722526692
>>same thing
>Why exactly?
Because the city is false regardless. It's either a pocket of time or an illusion meant to look like that. Either way it's denying reality, which is the point. The literal meaning isn't as important as the theme.
>Recently read that we are done for anyway pretty soon
I wouldn't get caught up in such talk. Things are bad and maybe they'll get worse. Maybe we're just another Jericho or maybe there'll be an Augustus that gives us 200+ years of prosperity. Nobody knows so don't worry about it.
>>
>>722527584
I reckon. Imho that's the biggest problem videogame stories have: it's never one story, but just story tacked on story. Studios should write the script for 5 games and create actually epic tales, not what we have today: gov gibs create games full of propaganda.
>>
>>722527703
Right, that's what you want to say. Fair point.
>we dead
100 million years or so, according to "scientists say". That's soon from a cosmological standpoint and I might be almost old at that point. Modern medicine will save me, trust the plan!

>What was the deal with the Ringed City? I know it was separated from the Age of Fire/Dark, but what happened to it after Filianore woke up?
The Egg was a spell that kept the whole area in stasis. It's the same as the white mist of the Age of Ancient, and that appears in boss fog walls
>>722520491
Blood was the link of Souls since forever in Souls games
>>722521545
>It's apparently an illusion
No it's not
>>
>>722525392
>at the center is the Ringed City which is an illusion.
Quit repeating this headcanon
>Unimportant
No it's very important. The Ringed City exists in a timeline and you can travel through the timeline by the link to the Flame. Waking up Filianore doesn't forbid you from time traveling to the Ringed City. Filianore white light spell blocks the fiture version of the Ringed City from happening
>>
>>722528749
Mfer... Very good. I thought it's a spell by the gods, but filianore is a dragon, is she not?
>spell/illusion
Come now...
>>
>>722529342
It's not an illusion because illusions are meaningless and ineffectual
>>
>spend 2/3 the game going through meme swamps and rotten hellholes, except boring and unoppressive compared to the previous games of the franchise

>DLC comes up with a cool looking fancy city
>DLC comes up with sick stylish deadly knights with fire weapons and tricky movesets
>DLC instead decides to make 2/3 its runtime be a random shitty swamp where you fight diseased meme disfigured enemies, or some city corridor where you still fight diseased human-looking meme enemies
what were they thinking?
>>
>>722530221
>what were they thinking?
Main dev likes swamps and sweaty feet.
>>
>>722519265
Are you supposed to play this DLC after or before the Soul of Cinder boss fight?
>>
The story was ruined during development as usual, just get a youtuber to make it up for you
>>
>>722519265
>What was the deal with the Ringed City?
Miyazaki really wanted to rip off Angel's Egg, that's it that's the explanation. All the headcanon lore like >>722523546 is post-fact rationalization.
>>
>>722530221
>what were they thinking?
Nothing, lol.
>>
>>722532285
Often the case. Jap sees something cool and wants it for his work.
>>
>>722532285
>>722532554
Retards, Elden Ring has the Orphic Egg coiled around the serpent. Miyazaki already takes his inspirations from classic literature and history.
