How to do? I can somewhat comfortably get to the black market but I don't last long afterwards. And getting the ankh from the black market and escaping alive is nightmarish.
I've noticed when I tend to press the run button I tend to die like a retard. Is it better to never run unless it's necessary to clear gaps?

I find it really difficult to balance not wasting bombs or ropes (or else maybe I won't be able to get to the black market), making enough cash (50k is a ton), exploring, not dying, carrying girls to the exit and doing everything relatively quickly for the very few screens you play on the first stage. And you don't even see shit from the inner walls until you get the eye in case you want to blow something up for easy money.
I guess I'll start by playing more slowly and see how things go.

Learn some setups for robbing the Black Market. You can place a bomb on the floor of the top layer, anger them, and then make them drop down to the bottom layers if you place yourself correctly
Shopkeepers won't jump if they're already a tile above you, so you can take cover in the starting room while they fall down. Then you'd throw some bombs down, or shotgun spam from the other side. If you already have a shotgun you can just shoot them from all the way to the entrance
Angry shopkeepers aren't that much of a problem deeper in the run because they (usually) tend to die on their own to the level itself (tiki traps, ice caves abyss, spike balls...)
