I think what I've come to appreciate with discussing video games on /v/ and it's related boards, compared to any other place mainly boils down to people being factually wrong less, and people correcting each other.

On other forums and social media there's an imbalance due to lack of anonymity.
People agree with the familiar, their friends.
People shy away from speaking their mind to save face.
You may not even be able to share an image, showing the other person is wrong elsewhere.

Here, people post proofs, and then if necessary call the other person retard.
Elsewhere, that makes the person lose face and is seen as the one in the wrong, regardless of the argument.
We're not automatons and judge everyone correctly, but there's no visible person attached to the post, it's less about who posts and more about what is in the post.

Depends on which facet of video games of course, but I'm mainly thinking of factual things like "X character did Y", "X affects Y", "X happens before Y" measurable things, less about narrative, story and character design. Boards like /tv/ are fun, but I don't think it's really good in this specific way that /v/ is, /tg/ is more similar to /v/ in that way where there's more clarity in discussion opposed to other places online.
I keep seeing people get very basic things wrong in comments everywhere else on the internet, and when corrected, the one correcting gets more pushback.
Here you get called retarded and made fun when you're trying to safe face like that.

right, and i like that i can call someone a nigger if im losing an argument and get away with it
>>
All of this disproven by the fact that this board has "disapproved" games. If you try to talk about them, no matter how honest you are, it's going to get derailed and shitted on.

to manage a forum you can EITHER have content-based moderation OR you can require an account to control individual spammers.

if you have BOTH, it is going to be abused by targeting individual people to silence their content, democratically or otherwise through rules-lawyering. on the other hand, while content is normally freer because of fewer rules and anonymity, 4chan is also not different in the way that rule enforcement is inconsistent, and lacks accountability for mods who take improper or selective action.

the mod problem, however, is necessarily universal to any site with traffic because there is too much for a few principled mods to do and the volunteers who do it for free can rarely keep their egos out of decision making.
