Outer Worlds is evidence that it doesn't matter how good your game leads are, or how much effort you put into a setting, at the end of the day, if you have a bunch of litfic women writers and zoomer programmers actually building on the skeleton of your game, it will be shit regardless.

The UE4 graphics scream PS4/Xbox One era and don't look very good today, on a technical level, though the retrofuture aesthetic is still neat.
Maybe this is fixable on PC with mods.
It's pretty good otherwise

Nothing. It was a good and fun game. It had decent roleplaying and a cool world.
I hope Outer Worlds 2 has more immersion sim mechanics.

I thought it was an okay game but I got it heavily discounted so there was no real loss. I won't be getting the sequel at full price.

They had a chance to make "New Vegas in Space" in a engine that isn't Gamebryo (or whatever Bethesda calls their version of Gamebryo) and they picked Unreal Engine and then proceeded to make sure the game both looked AND played exactly as if it was made in Gamebryo. It's amazing.

Also completely forgettable companions (I can't even call them bad, I don't remember any of them) and literally "we have Borderlands at home" everywhere.

Journalist bait, you see everything the game has to offer in the first area. After that everything feels like filler and done with much less effort.
Same as BG3

One of the quests was to literally set up a date for an asexual lesbian.
That kind of gigglesquee shit does not make for an interesting story.
I'm sorry to all the asexual lesbians out there, but wish-fulfillment is only interesting to people who share that wish, and asexual lesbians and their weird faghag hangers-on who fetishise gay people of every stripe are an absolute minority of humanity.

Add a cliche CORPORATION BAD story, where the corporations aren't really doing anything but general evil for the sake of evil, told in the most millenial manner possible ("hurr it has gen x writers!" Yeah and they have jobs because millenials eat it up you faggots, a pig farmer is not a pig who is a farmer you reddit-browsing, rick and morty-watching, nu-doctor who-shipping, onceler-fetishising, undertale-playing, soi-faced millenial fucktards) with everyone being ugly retard to be RELATEABLE and REALISTIC, especially the women, and an end game that has absolutely no fucking stakes with a villain who dies midway or whatever and some security overseer woman who dies in a boss-fight that would make Colonel Autumn blush.

Also for a game taking place in a solar system you get two planets to explore, twice, two cities (one which is a third planet but you only explore a fraction of the city) one planet exists just to be there on the map, but you don't get to see it. One planet is the end game prison planet which is the end game for some reason. A couple of tiny space ships and space stations, and an asteroid. Two more planets were added in DLC.
Now I'm not expecting some big ol fucking Everything Todd Howard Wanted People To Believe Saarfield Was experience, with fully explorable planets. I'm not.
I just wanted something more than exploring two planets twice, WITH SHARED ENEMIES ON ALL OF THEM.
Give me Ratchet and Clank. Smallish worlds that are distinctly alien from each other. That's it. That's all it needed.
>>
extremely content lacking.
fully exploring everything on every map, looting it all, upgrading, etc and beating the game only takes 5-8hrs
the story is so shitty theres no reason to explore the "multiple endings bro to these super small maps!"

i'll never buy anything made by the devs or producers again.

And why did the corporations even want to destroy the second colony ship? It's an entirely new workforce, with all sorts of experts and technicians you can set to work, and grunt labor to enslave. I think it was something to do with dwindling resources, but you solve that on the first planet if you simply teach people that DEAD BODIES CAN BE FERTILIZER, HOW THE FUCK DOES AN ENTIRE SPACE FARING COLONY NOT KNOW THAT YOU CAN FEED PLANTS WITH CORPSES WHAT THE FUCK
THEY CAN TRAVEL FASTER THAN LIGHT BUT THEY CAN'T MULCH PEOPLE DOWN INTO BIOFUEL ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME
I'VE GOT A FUCKING BOTTLE OF SMASHED UP FISH IN WATER THAT I PUT ON MY FUCKING PLANTS AND THE NEXT DAY YOU CAN SEE HOW MUCH HEALTHIER THEY'VE BECOME, YOU CAN BUY THIS SHIT AT ANY FUCKING NURSERY OR AT A FUCKING BUNNINGS, AND IF I CAN BUY IT AT BUNNINGS YOU CUNTS CAN BUY IT AT HOME DEPO OR SOME SHIT WHO THE FUCK WROTE THIS FUCKING STORY

The plot should be to protect the second ship from being found BECAUSE the companies would enslave the workforce, and drive down labour value amongst the workers.
If these faggots had a fucking brain they could have used it as a metaphor for immigration. That the companies would use the new colonists as an excuse to pay their current labourers less, anyone who does not work harder will be replaced by a Second Ship Colonist, to have the workers hating the Second Ship Colonists instead of their bosses. To show that the immigration issue is exploited for profit and to sow division between the lower classes to prevent uprising. That's the plan.

And each head of each corporation wants to be the one to find it first because they can sell workers to other companies like cattle.
So now you've got a story where workers are literally the OBJECT of a gold-rush to be exploited.
How the fuck can I, an authoritarian racist, write a more thought provoking story about labour exploitation than the people whose political identity is immigration rights and smash capitalism?

Isn't the issue that the star system/planets are missing a trace element that human metabolisms need? Like selenium or molybdenum which are formed in supernova remnants like our solar system is located but some star system formed where only main sequence stars existed would have elements up to the mid 20's in the periodic table. So planets like that would support life but humans would eventually die of malnutrition no matter how much they ate. Putting human corpses into the food supply would forestall the problem.

Defrosting more colonists would just make the problem worse.

Real solution would be setting up a particle accelerator to produce the trace elements.

All talented people left Obsidian long ago.
>>
Characters look too stock.
>>
>>722530284
>trace elements
Realistically you could get in one shipment that would provide enough to make supplements for all the colonists for a lifetime.
>>
>>722520910
Obsidian had to do it from scratch so it couldn't be as systemic and ambitious
The second one looks a lot better
>>
i didn't even finish the tutorial planet this game was so mediocre
>>
They managed to make the 1 survival crafter game i have actually enjoyed. I'll give it a chance, but I do expect it to be more 7/10, fine but lots of small issues.
>>
>>722532010
Yes.

But even more realistically someone would have noticed that they have robots and AIs so they don't really need any colonists in the first place.

>Thirty-five years later, the colony is in fact on the verge of complete collapse. Despite the assurances of the Board, life in the colony is far from perfect. The main problem being slow and subtle starvation of the entire population due to Earth food being too low in nutrients.

Doesn't seem to be. It just looks like they imported cheap slop. They terraformed the planets too, so you'd think the terraforming process would include covering base nutrition.
It's simply that their food is garbage.

I suppose it's meant to be some sort of CAPITALISTS DON'T LIKE ORGANIC PRODUCE AT WHOLE FOODS or some shit.
Some soi-latte swilling twat acting like capitalism is why people eat McDonalds and not their own laziness.

>>722520910
I liked it and dumped a lot of time into a bunch of runs, but:
>very easy way to softlock the game in the first hour just by doing natural things a player would naturally do (changing tabs in the menus, loading more than one tutorial in one go), and this never got fixed
>too much emphasis on Welles and jokes in the marketing, leading to people going all in on the "reddit and memey" jokes and making /v/ avoid the game like the plague
>weird gameplay mechanics like locking ALL status effects behind the slow-mo for some reason
>tech weapons are too gimmicky to be worth using other than like once, and only 1-2 of them are even good at all even if you build for them
>a lot of the game is just filler to pad the time between main story quests
>all the loyalty quests except Parvati are just dumb one-offs with generic combat that you can complete in like 3 minutes if you rush them, and the robot doesn't even get one
>equipment in general is just kinda cobbled together both in stats and visuals
>no cosmetic/vanity system in a game that REALLY needs one
>trait/injury systems are all unbalanced as shit
Also:
>Parvati's loyalty quest is literally a lesbian writer on the team self-inserting as her, leading to the quest being this long thing full of lots of dialogue and gaslighting you into spending shitloads of credits on shit you don't need all to hook up two women together while giving the middle finger to Parvati's parents, when most of the game's main quests don't even get this much attention
>literally every man in power is a bumbling retard or an "NPC" just following orders
>almost every woman in power is the voice of reason, smarter, and more effective than her male superiors

>literally every man in power is a bumbling retard or an "NPC" just following orders

You don't get thyroid dysfunction and joint deterioration from lack of protein. The symptoms listed by the doctor match lack of molybdenum and selenium exactly. Except everyone in the game is too incompetent to look up a basic medical textbook.

Yes the corporation and rebels are unbelievably dumb. But my complaint is players who immediately go "CROP ROTATION LOL" without even trying to find out what's going on.
>>
Is there a wrong way to play this or something? The combat felt very boring to me, think I was doing heavy weapons
Otherwise I thought it was a fine rpg though I don't remember liking any of the crew members that much
>>
>>722530284
Yeah, anything you grow in the new system dies because the soil doesn't support shit from Earth, and anything local from the new system provides jack shit nutrition for people, so they can mukbang 500 lbs of food and still die of starvation.

>>722532449
They brought some food with them, and cobble together garbage too, but that has limits.
Also I don't think they terraformed shit outside of maybe the atmosphere at most, all the towns are just prefab shit slapped onto some dusty valley somewhere in a "westward expansion / wild west" kind of thing.
I doubt it's a "capitalists don't like organic food" thing either, since literally the only way to get the best ending is to sacrifice some people to go get some scary chemicals for the mad scientist so he can safely unfreeze some scientists and biologists and shit so they can GMO the shit out of food to make it safe to eat.
I mean yeah it's obviously a "capitalism bad" thing, but not a "rich people love processed fake food" thing.
>>
>>722520910
the game was so boring I had to force myself to keep turning it on, and one evening I just didn't bother anymore.
