ITS SELLING SO WELL
>>
Each copy is already sold to the retailer, sony made their money for each copy on the shelf regardless if it sits there
>>
>>722522708
I live by ghetto places, so their shelves are never stocked and everything is in a cage somewhere
>>

I like Sony and own one, but the game is at best an under-performer.

wrong, retailers can get unsold stock refunded

All copies sold in India and China. Subscription downloads don't count.

predictable

>"""""millions""""" of """"""""""players***"""""""""" ""world"" """""wide"""""
When did it get like this?
Why can't they just make a good game instead of trying to be sneaky and trick people?

>>722523381
>own a permission to play the game
>actually own the game
Pick one.
>>
>>722523627
Like movies, 99% of the budget goes to marketing because it's more profitable than making something people actually want to buy
>>
Same energy as claiming consoles aren't selling because my local store has a a mountain of them.
>>
>>722523627
because everything must carry the "correct" social contexts and narratives, and they know people won't willingly buy it, so they do under-handed shit.
>>
>>722522708
It's pretty interesting how all these new AAA games just so happen to sell a million copies and then you never hear about them ever again.
>>
>>722523781
They are leftists theatre kids, they don't know how to make a good product.

I'm feeling like there are mad shills in here right now

are you retarded the previous ghost ended up selling like 10 million.
>>
>>722523878
Leaked data says otherwise
>>
>>722523803
It's my theory that the major publishers hand out or otherwise distribute a million copies (to industry people/reviewers/friends/family/whatever) specifically in order to say "see? Isn't a million a really big number? You better go get it so you don't miss out!"
>>
let me guess, it will be ported to PC in 6 months and will have 10k max concurrent players. This will be treated as stunning success equal to Silksong and Baldur's gate 3
>>
what a fucking retarded thread. the game launched yesterday. not even sony has retail numbers.
>>
>>722523803
A million is an incredibly embarrassing number for a AAA game.
Games nowadays need to sell tens of millions to make up for all the marketing costs and otherwise wasted investment.
>>
>>722523627
they are trying to win an impossible battle, its like throwing yourself of a cliff and hope you hit the water instead of the rocks, why would you do that when you know you are probably going to fail? retardation and bitterness

>game release 6 months after real release doesn't have a surge of hype on first day of rerelease
>>
>>722524083
It's not stupidity, people are just trying to hang on to their jobs in a time where the industry is getting gutted ruthlessly.
You're watching the last few rats on a sinking ship trying to climb to the mast to live a few seconds longer.

>A million is an incredibly embarrassing number for a AAA game.
bitch please. sony mindbroke you so hard you are spending your time crying how a game hasn't sold 10000000 12 hours after release. touch grass.
>>
>>722523496
Not exactly, they usually bundle games with consoles or accessories. That's how pieces of shit like TLOU2 ended up making big numbers. It's stupid and corny, but it often works.
>>
>>722523496
No they can't or bargain bins won't exist. I still see max payne 3 in bargain bins
>>
>>722524267
I'm not the one who wasted the vast majority of my budget on advertising/marketing instead of just making a decent game.

Who goes to Best Buy to buy video games? Like you order it online at Amazon or get it at Target if you want to play it day 1
>>
>>722524481
Enjoy your 1.5-2 million copies in a game that had to sell 5 mil to break even.
>>
>>722524267
A AAA game selling only one million is a failure considering how massive the budgets have become without accounting for marketing. Then you have to consider the fact that PS5 does not sell that much software which will most likely force Sony to port the game to PC just like how they did with Tsushima. I highly doubt Yotei will only sell one million, but I also doubt it will reach Tsushima's numbers any time soon.

Physical is increasing in all forms. The Zoomers have been exceeding my expectations in recent years.
>>
>>722524781
With a number like a million I think they were counting individual kernels as game sales.
>>
>>722524756
Ok? I never implied that the game should be selling one million on its first day, but that selling one million in the long term is not an acceptable goal in the slightest for a AAA game.

gears of war on ps5?

>99% of the budget goes to marketing
That's not true, tho, they just spend the same as the movie costed to make, basically doubling the production budget.
Still, haven't you seen what the average disney garbage costs?
The fucking garbage disney+ shit costs them over 300 or 400 million dollars to make, they were trying to deceive investors saying that the mediocre garbage that they shat with "the acolyte" costed that much, and it wasn't some magnificent spectacle, using mostly the same 4 sets they had already made for other movies and shows.
>>
>>722525554
they do in non-third-world shitholes.
>>
>>722522708
So it's like the switch 2 where it's sold millions but there's a lot of them sitting on shelves?
>>
Xbox games and consoles must be selling gorilions per second using the same logic.
>>
>>722523627
That’s how a free market acts when there isn’t any regulations. They’ll put woodchips in your food, sell you penny stocks from made up companies, and will lock their employees inside a burning build to prevent them from having breaks. Sure “the good guy” companies who raise their employee’s wages after profit increases do exist, but they are in an entire sea of scummy people whose only interests are their own Swiss bank accounts.
>>
>>722522901
Stop acting like people majority of actually buy shit from brick and mortar stores and most aren't just using digital stores

It's been a well-known fact that big budget movies have insane production costs and it's primarily from embezzlement.
I just don't know why the game industry had to copy it.

>80 million game machines sold
>one (1) game manages to capture 10% or more of that
>>
>>722523627
Because the industry has become very investor-driven. If a game sells well, they will brag about it. If a game doesn't sell as expected, they will cover it with "dollar sales", "shipments" or "millions of players". If a game sells badly, the game wasn't as expensive and it will be merged with the rest of the graph to show how strong the brand overall is. It's nothing but a game of lies to keep investors tame and ignorant, as they only care about the line going up.
>>
>>722523627
>When did it get like this?
MMOs have been doing it for ages with the "Come and join X million players" stuff then you realize that was counting some free weekend trial, or it was total players since launch and by the time you play it's less than 50k and over half of the servers were merged.
>>
>>722526431
>I just don't know why the game industry had to copy it.
They didn't copy it, you could most probably trace the costs 1 to 1 to employee wages during the 10 years the average AAA games takes to make.
Just take the over 1000 people making the game throughout several studios, and you more or less can get the cost of wages, which if you take a proper look, it ain't really much, so the real costs are probably several times over the declared costs at current US average wages.
>>
>>722523210
All the games on shelf where I am are just empty display boxes, you have to take it to the counter and they give you an actual copy, which they keep stored in the back.

I think the game might have underperformed but OP is being retarded. Even if those aren't display boxes the game being in stock doesn't mean anything other than they shipped a lot.
