What was the feeling of owning a GBA back in 2001?

I only had original Gameboy

The shitty screen made it awkward until the SP came around, and I remember mine also had some problems with the power cable. I loved it anyway, I got mine on Christmas with Battle Network.

felt like a good leap over the gbc because the graphics were a massive improvement but owning a gba sp felt like a much bigger leap with the rechargeable battery and backlit screen. that was an actual "holy fuck" moment because it felt so premium, especially with the clamshell design to protect the screen. i played a lot of gba games too, it had some cool exclusives and i liked some of the snes ports to play on the way to and from school.

>wanted SMB3 on GBA
>ask dad to buy it for me with my allowance money
>he comes back with a shitty Rocket Power game
>he keeps the rest of the money for himself
