Zoomers just have recency bias. You see the same thing in places like Backloggd.

It's sad that even Sony's soulless nostalgia-fest is a better platformer then Nintendo's latest.
How the mighty have fallen.

It's a truly splendid game.
But more than that it is a genuinely unique game experience since there really isn't another game that plays anything like it.
At best you can make superficial, structural comparisons to Odyssey. But in practise they play very differently from one another, and even in terms of structure they're actually very different too since Bananza chose to approach progression and gating differently from Odyssey to a significant degree.

Game good
Game unique
Game memorable
Game satisfying
Game fun

As someone who loves astro bot and is looking forward to getting bananza, these two games don’t seem all that comparable

3d platformers where you fight enemies and jump over holes in the ground

Bananza is a great game, but user scores do not matter and never have. They are not an indicator of anything.
>>
As someone who loved Mario Odyssey and played it to 100% three times, Bananza was a huge letdown. 90% of my memories of this game are just seeing a banana on sonar and smashing walls until I got it. I didn't 100% it and have absolutely no urge to play it again. It's like playing TotK but the hoverbike that trivialized everything is built into Link's basic moveset.

As that autistic anon pointed out (he even made a YouTube video afterwards), the gaming press began to become less demanding around the 2000s.
You can't compare modern reviews with older ones, simply because the old press was more rigorous. In fact, the press was more rigorous than the public back then, but today the trend has reversed, and the public tends to be more critical of games than the specialized press, which is a phenomenon unique to video games.

The system is broken, any time a game with a huge about of hype behind it gets an honest critical review, fanboys send twitter armies to complain and try to get the reviewer fired. If game review outlets want to stay in business they have to reaffirm fanboy beliefs.

Not to mention games are so massive and padded now, most reviews are written in the honeymoon phase where the game is still throwing new things at you, with no regard to how well the game systems actually stand up over 50 hours of playtime.

Seems like the opposite to me
