Nope, it really was that good, and I've been playing since the beginning. Then Gen 5 ruined it.

Being a pokémon diehard after pokémania died down and living through gens 3 and 4 where the fandom became much more focused and hardcore while the games became more expansive and packed with content with each generation is something indescribable to those who didn't experience it. You had to be there, but also everyone sort of "forgets" that Pokemon was culturally bullied for being kidlike instead of Halo 3 or COD already by Gen 3 and 4middle schools and hs in america (aka prisons) werent kind to Pokemon until after GOthen Pokemon became something everyone but der boomer collectively agreed is fun
