I might be autistic but super metroid was one of those games I played back in the day where I would just go around looking at the sprites and colors and stuff.

i decompiled the super metroid SPC-700 sound driver ages ago, and still have my notes. i could prove this... (pic related is near the top of the decompile)
if i recall correctly, all enemy sound effects are loaded when the game boots up and never unloaded. the item jingle would also be loaded since it is used all over the place. only the bgm score and samples are swapped out.
