I don't even like the medieval period that much (I'm a romaboo desu) but Medieval 2 Total war and CK2 are the two best games in the genre.
The absolute best is probably CK2 I think it has the edge but if you want something more lighthearted, turn based, and with the fun battle command stuff then M2TW can offer an experience just as fun, for me at least.
