What exactly went wrong? I'd like to see it make a comeback...somehow.
They heavily insisted on GD-ROM because it was more secure than CD and held 1gb instead of 750mb.They got destroyed by DVD.
Sega used a proprietary disc format called GD-ROM, which held 1GB. It was a step up from the CD-ROM of last generation, but the PS2 and Xbox had the advantage of using DVDs. Single-layer DVDs could hold 4 GB of data while dual-layer DVDs could hold 8.5 GB of data, much more breathing space for developers.

>>722537718everyone was waiting for the ps2 instead. sega had completely torched their brand and convincing people to buy a dreamcast instead of a ps2 was basically impossible
>>722537718they didn't listen to the gaijin time traveler
>>722541562saturn is when everything fell apart because they didnt expect playstation
>>722537718>What exactly went wrong?Sega was, and still are, retards. Most of their first party flagship titles out sonic also kind of flopped. Most their success was always in secondary media. Like dinosaur king the anime being way more popular than the actual game.
>>722537718the same thing that always went wrong for SEGA. the timing.SEGA tried to always be first, to always be hip and with it. and they were. but technology was advancing so fast, those who waited even a little bit, benefited from advancements in tech.they clung to an arcade mindset when arcades had gone the way of the dodo.
