Is this game still relevant in 2025?
>>722547105define relevant
>>722547105The faggot frog ruined some features (like digging up) when he gave it graphics and I haven't played it since. It's still a cool game I imagine. I'm probably gonna replay it soon and accidentally flood my fortress trying to give my leader a private swimming pool.
it's still relevant, but it's not the king of the space it once was, it spawned a genre of like games, a lot of which focus on one aspect of DF and do it better than DF, but don't reach the broadness of DF. Still a massively influential game and i don't think we've hit the bottom on how deep it's influence goes.
>>722547857They are just sandbox Colony games. A genre that is super old already.
last time I played I spent forever building my fort but invasions never triggered so I got bored
played the steam version long enough to realize it's actually more shallow than RWin fact, I think DF would be a lot better if it was only like 20 z levels or something... 100+ zlevels is just too much to fuckin manage for a game with a puddle of content
>>722547105the steam release exposed it to the masses and normies realized it is a barely functional obtuse piece of shit where half of the fun is in your imagination until even that wears thin a la daggerfall
>>722549964i literally saw some faggot praising the steam version because he could finally play ithe was too retarded to install a tilesetthe ASCII default graphics and obtuse controls really lend an air of complexity that just isn't there
>>722550819it might actually be fun if anything worked as intendedthe central idea of fortress mode is pretty cool in the sense of indirectly bossing dwarves around, but in reality one ends up configuring the dwarves in such a way as to get specific dwaves to do specific things, so it just ends up being tedious
not really any point in playing it now
