In spite of lacking soul and edge, there is still the question of whether they are doing good things with gameplay. I just watched the developer commentary guys run of Rift Apart and it looked satisfying to play. Good design of weapons and general gameplay whereas I felt Crack In Time, the game that people seem to praise from the post-PS2 era, had bland weapons and weak design.
