>protagonist of the first game was an average Joe winning by wit and grit>in the sequel(s) he's the Chosen One for some reason
>>722558147>in the sequel he is the villain for some reasonhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HxyM_GxFwJ0
>>722560275Is this "subverting expectations" sort of thing?
>game takes place in the past, to emphasize that, everything has that ugly yellow tint
>>722558147yes
>>722558147Prequels that end up having a bigger scale than the first game. Especially if it's for a side character who had a limited role.
>Impactful death of a character >Gets resurrected because fan popularity No, I am not talking about Optimus Prime
>>722563970>Prequel has more advanced technology than sequel
>>722558147>something bad happens to the generic sidekick at the end, like dying or becoming a missing person>i'm supposed to care despite not having any attachment to the character
MC abandons his beloved childhood friend for some slut he just met
>>722558147>revenge is bad so I won't do it! (after killing 1000 regular dudes to get there)>I have superpowers? Noooo I didn't ask for this I just want a normal life! Two of the absolute worst.
>>722565652Yeah, I've seen a handful of games that are supposed to take place before the events of a game with flip phones and CRT TVs, and everything is Smartphones, Flat screens. It's never not distracting.Happens in animation too.>flashback to events that were originally aired in the 90 and early 2000s>all the technology is modern to when it's being aired currently
>>722565652>nu trek
>mcguffin had one specific purpose >in later games it becomes Deus ex machina
>>722558147legend of shield hero season 2 was so freakin bad
>have a cute girly girl in a game>in the sequel she looks and acts like a whore for some fucking reasonlooking at you, Clover
>>722565834>sidekick needs to make hard decisions, goes on to become a villain in the next game>it's kinda neat
>>722567916>have a massive whore in a game>in the sequel she becomes a goody two shoes
>>722568173settled down with a betabaxxer, evidently
>>722558147> Medieval fantasy game is hecking lgbtqia2+ friendly, you meet a bunch of men saying "my husband" etc.> historical game (like in 1800s England) has a bunch of browns and blacks and they don't even get discriminated againstAbsolutely ruins the immersion
>>722566734>He want everything to look like cardboardIt's not 1966 anymore.
>>722565652>prequel has more advanced technology>they actually do a great job explaining this because most of the tech is aboard a massive science vessel/planet, and all of it will be destroyed by the end of the game
>the church is evil and corrupt (but only if the religion is based on christianity)
>MC has a relative introduced in third game, he is very important
>>722561328Not reallyPeople shit on prototype 2 for that but the MCs mission from the get go is to kill alex mercer to avenge his family that were killed by the virus he developedExcept his family is revealed to still be alive later in the game and it was all a psyop orchestrated by mercer to get heller on his side, so him wanting to kill mercer still makes sense
>>722568315>he want everything to look like apple storeFuck you!
>>722558147relevant
>>722558147I can deal with that. What I hate is shit like >>722569612 where the game presents you as just playing as some random schmuck. And instead of telling a story about how any random schmuck can rise through the ranks to become a hero, it turns out that the protag actually has the blood of Jesus and was super special all along.JRPGs are fucking horrible with this.
>>722569810because that would require putting effort into writing.
>>722569810I find it funny that so much Jap media starts with that message then when you get halfway into a game or a couple seasons into an anime, that human story gets ditched due to power creep.
>>722569810I like what Xenoblade did with it.The protagonist, Shulk, was by all accounts just an ordinary kid, and spends most of his life normally. He isn't "special" by any birth right or anything, but because god fucked up and accidentally gave a vessel the ability to reshape the future in a universe with predetermined causality.Xenoblade 2 is much the same, the only thing "special" about the protag Rex, is that he has some lineage from a hero that was only relevant for opening a sealed door, but also having "aptitude" to resonate with Blades (which isn't a rare trait), which leads to him getting immediately killed but given a second chance by that universe's higher powers.
>>722570005>Luffy is currently Pirate Jesus
>>722569810Sounds like One Piece and Naruto
>>722571571Two anime shows that should be put out of their misery
