The paranormal stuff is what makes it good
>>722564105Just once it would be nice to have a thread without 2020s politics.
>>722564059>still fears his landlord by the third gameWhy is he such a faggot?
>>722564059Sorta, but like every Thief game they way over-do it. If it was a supernatural encounter here or there it'd be fine, but instead all Thief games are like 60% clubbing zombies to death.
>>722564648Bonehoard and Haunted Cathedral are some of the most fun levels. The Sword is the best and is also paranormal just of a different type.
>>722564059yeah loved that stuff and really miss it in the second game
>>722564648
Any hope for it?
>>722564979According to thief 2 supremacists the second mission is actually an undead mission because there is a zombie in a cave in a mine before the mission begins
>>722564979those fat komodo lizards ruin it for me more than thieves guild or mage towerswarwicks or something like that worst enemies in the game
>>722565014>Moon is right side upThat's not the City. The moon is upside down in that latitude
>>722565014Not much. Also>VRBut I'm cautiously optimistic about Serpens: Eternal Thievery
Lost City reconstructionhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GNUqp0LHBTw
>>722564059I just got to the cathedral and stopped playing desu senpai. The Sword is also the worst level, its huge, empty and has quirk chungus vibes "woah what if the room was huge and you were tiny, what if the room was upside down" Rick and Morty tier level
>>722565712dogshit taste
>>722565712>I just got to the cathedral and stopped playingYou got through the worst part of the game and then stopped? The city ruins in The Haunted Cathedral is widely considered the worst gameplay in TDP. You wanted to only experience the worst part and can't stand the idea of playing the better parts of the game?
>>722565847I think that anon has bad taste but I would not say Haunted outskirts is the worst part. Mage Towers and Lost City are pretty bad and are upcoming levels if you're playing Gold.
>>722565014Not really, they're amateur devs. I mean I'm the biggest VR enthusiast there is. But I can gauge a studio's talent and they're likely not up to the job. Whilst I'm trying to be positive and charitable, i know that it won't go over well with fans. This was just an excuse for Eidos to do something with an old dormant IP. But it will go over just about as well as Thi4f did. That's where we're at with the company, the direction hasn't really changed.
>>722565014>another girlboss protagonistIf I'm to play in VR, I want to play as a dude goddamitAt this point I'd take official Quest ports of 1 & 2 instead of a new VR game. I might be biased but I did enjoy RE4 for Quest
>>722565847>The city ruins in The Haunted Cathedral is widely considered the worst gameplay in TDPThat's a funny way of saying Thieves Guild
>>722565712I miss the days when bait was believable. Now take your (You) and go hang yourself
>>722565312thiefs slow creeping gameplay is perfect for VR>>722565847>The city ruins in The Haunted Cathedral is widely considered the worst gameplay in TDPaccording to whom? hot takes straight from your ass? Haunted cathedral is one of the best levels. Lost city is one of the shittier ones and thieves guild, a "100% loot mansion heist" mission, is universally seen as the most awful map. With mages tower not far behind
>>722565014>bring back thief after a decade and even get stephen russell back>but you dont play as him he's a voice in your headlooking foward to the series being dead again for another 10 years I guess
>>722566270why even bother with a stand alone only VR thief game gimped by motion controls. Either make a no motion control version that has 3d support for the headset, so flatties can have their release no problem, or take the old thief 1/2 and make them work with the headset for traditional controls with seated play but full 3d vr Motion controls are nice to have but publishers and devs are really setting themselves up for failure by thinking VR means a completely separate version, instead of being a enhancement of a traditional version
>>722565602The concept was so much better than the actual mission.
>>722566628VR and non-VR fundamentally need different game design
>>722566737they really dont if you dont use motion controls. Most milage I have gotten out of my headset is converting flatties to full 3d to run on a headset. Stuff like FEAR 1 for example. Everything else stays exactly the same like mouse and keyboard control Most of the magic of VR comes from actually being in the game world, which works great for atmospheric stuff like Thief. Flat screens feel like staring into the game world through a tiny little window. But when you start incorporating motion controls is when things need dramatic rehauling. From UI elements to how items handle to the fact the player is much slower and clumsier too
>>722565217>warwicks or something like that burricks
>>722566628>gimped by motion controlsWhy would you say gimped by motion controls when motion controls allows for no animation cutscenes for practically everything? opposed to the kind that were found in Thi4f with Garrets hands? I really don't understand why people are anti motion when it comes to VR. I mean I'd rather it wasn't floating hands and full body simulated personally, that would always be the best approach. But now I don't even understand why Thief fans were tearing apart Thi4f when the best solution is the one with full control over it. Maybe imsim fags are actually midwits that shouldn't be listened to if that's your stance on freely manipulatable animations.
>>722565602Makes me wonder if 'The Builder' is another supernatural entity just like the 'Trickster' is and both of them have been warring over the same land for eternity. And always, humanity in the middle getting sent to ruin.
>>722567152Why the picture of a football?
>>722567182>Why would you say gimped by motion controlsin this context I meant because VR is such a niche market that its guaranteed to be a sales failure if you focus for a full VR version only. Make a flat screen version with traditional controls which also runs on a headset with full 3d as a compromise this is the best chance to get more Thief related content that aint once in a lifetime fan megaprojects like the black parade
>>722567037well it makes sense that playing seated with mouse and keyboard makes it more similar to flatscreen gaming, but you're sacrificing some immersion there, making it a kind of halfway point between flat gaming and full VR. I played Fallout 4 like that and it was okay, but not really worth the hassle of wearing a heavy headset
>>722567480>this is the best chance to get more Thief related content that aint once in a lifetime fan megaprojects like the black paradeHow is TBP? I got into Thief solely because TBP was hyped up but I want to beat Thief 2 before I play it. Is it actually kino?
everyone would like the zombies if they called you a taffer
>>722565712The Sword is the best level. The giant house that Gold added I can take it or leave it, otherwise I love the weird sideways rooms leading to dark winding grassy passages and shooting rope arrows through floating ceiling water. With droning ambience, inhuman voices, and sinister snickering to accompany the ominous twisted Trickster mansion.
>>722567480I don't think they ever plan on making more Thief. This was just some anomaly decision that had no meaning behind it. They licensed it out once in a blue moon for no reason whatsoever other trying their hand at getting a studio for a VR game. Kind of like the Deus Ex remaster disaster having no significant meaning behind it. If I were to reboot Thief through VR then I'd have probably got those Batman Arkham Shadow devs to do it if they wanted to show off at least a passable product. Vertigo and Maze Theory are way too inexperienced for this. I mean so were the Arkham devs before they released that game, but at least they have a record of an actually pretty good game and it shows they're capable of a higher quality product.
>>722566378desu i think i got further than the cathedral because i remember lost city and thinking "this is just the exact same map as thief 2" and quitting.
>>722565312>Serpens: Eternal Thieveryhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6OOhyQ7Vap8huh not bad for what I assume is a one man operation
https://youtu.be/GySn6_aclAM?t=39
>>722565014>thief 4 sequel why? thief 3 even has the whole "passing the torch" thing at the end, why not go from there?
>>722568078People will really watch this and think to themselves "wtf i bought a game called the DARK project and i have to fight zombies? i got rugpulled!"
>>722567402Considering that "blessings" are just starlight infusing into objects, it seems more likely that the Builder is just a deification of some ancient inventors. Thief was made by a bunch of Boston liberal atheists. Ken Levine made the Hammerites, and based them on old fundamentalist catholicism. I think it's more likely that the Hammerites are a reflection of the liberal atheist's impression on religious people like that, that they are a sad and self-punishing lot who attribute all of their genuinely good accomplishments on their god and punish themselves for things that are not their fault. The Builder very likely isn't real, and they just give him credit for all of their own innovations. They create their inventions and they discover blessings and "holy magic" from the interactions of the universe, but they just thank a god that doesn't exist for all of that. That's how I think a person like Ken Levine would have written a religious fundamentalist faction in the edgy 90's....also, dichotomies are so boring, and usually based on simplistic human bias. Few things in the universe have just one side and another. So, the existence of one deity does not imply the necessity of its opposite.
>>722566325This, Thieve's Guild is the fucking worst.I've never heard anyone complain about the ruins in the Haunted Cathedral.
>>722568385The ruins in Cathedral can be harsh for the loot requirement but other than that its a real good time.
>>722568059Yeah but the Serpens guy is working on Gloomwood full time first before he goes back to working on Serpens Eternal Thievery or whatever, he hasn't really updated anything about the project for a long ass time. It's going to take forever to see it come to fruition, if it even does. I've been recommending people add Noirmancer to their Wishlist because it looks like the closest thing I've seen to an indie Thief since Filcher. It's just super hero powered like Dishonoured, but unlike dishonoured It actually does use light/darkness and sound. So it classifies as a proper stealth game. I'm not sure if it's 'immersive sim' but it just looks like Thief to me.https://store.steampowered.com/app/3674590/Noirmancer/
>>722567959>They licensed it out once in a blue moon for no reason whatsoeverThief VR wasn't initiated by Eidos, instead it was the VR developer that reached out to the publisher, they talk about it in the behind-the-scenes video
>>722568078The music really doesn't fit
>>722568714shut your mouth, knave
>>722568385There are some problems with the ruins. Firstly, the loot distribution is completely arbitrary. A golden plate in the light alcove of a sewer maintenance tunnel. A cobblestone-shaped diamond among cobblestones on a random street. A precious jeweled tiara on the extreme edge of the map in a random pile of debris. Rafter goblets. Unlike all of the other missions that take place in human-inhabited spaces, most of the valuables seem to have been placed in deliberately illogical and annoying ways. Thief due to its systems-based nature is all about making assumptions about what could be possible to do, and where something might reasonably be. When that is made arbitrary, it works against the design philosophy. Also, it's basically not a stealth game level. The patrols between the zombies, burricks and spiders near the cathedral and keeper grotto are not compatible with stealth gameplay, and they're placed in a bottleneck that is the only way through. Worse yet, there is a mandatory puzzle right next to them where you are forced to use explosives, meaning that even if you sequence-break the mission and go straight for the keepers without listening to The Eye's hints, you will still have to expose yourself by blowing shit up.
>>722568059That looks pretty good.
>>722569192congrats
>>722565217I love bullying these, tho. I never let them get away unharmed.
>>722569192>Song of the CavernsBest bait and switch mission. You expect another cave mission but end up in the opera.
>>722572160Terri Brosius wanted a job at LGS and at first they only considered a pointless assistant position. But eventually she became the voice for Viktoria, and when they let her do writing and design they realized that she was actually good at it and so she ended up designing the only actually great mission of Thief Gold
*only actually great mission added by Thief Gold
>>722574342>Terri BrosiusJust read a bit about her, she sounds very talented. It's like if they used to hire women in video games for their talent and merits back then...
>>722565014No and never post about this abject garbage again.>>722564979Based. Mission variety > *
>>722575115I suppose this is a bad example, since Terri was just the wife of the audio guy. They didn't hire her because she was good, she turned out to be good after she was hired. Same thing happened with Ken Levine, who didn't care at all which position he got, as long as he could work for the company that made System Shock.
>>722575605>Same thing happened with Ken Levine,Minus the turned out to be good part.
>>722567686NTA but really good. Made me actually appreciate undead levels.
>>722567686It's incredible. Although you should beat the full trilogy first. It has at least one level that serves as a massive spoiler for that game (and honestly does justice to that concept in a gameplay setting way better than Deadly Shadows did with its janky Invisible War-ass engine)
>>722564648You haven't even played them faggot
>>722565014No.I've seen a VR youtuber, one that actually played the original Thief games, saying the game has nothing to do with the series, atmosphere and all.Just look at the gloves of the protagonist: that's your answer.
any more decent FMs as extensive as The Black Parade
>>722564059The paranormal stuff was like mad me go "nope". Yikes!>>722565014>Thief 4 flopped, so let's DEINope.
>>722578078You mean full campaigns instead of one off missions? Theres not many, personally l only played deaths cold embrace, but its not as lengthy and not nearly as elaborate. You have to understand that black parade was literal years in the making by several authors with years of experience, it's not exactly common that something like that gets released
>>722578078>>722579339Oh yeah and Thief 2X, very mid 2000
>>722565847>I just got to the cathedral and stopped playingGiving up at KINO level.
>>722567182Taffers wont understand the reason why THI4F made so you get animations for looting so I'll tell you. Its so you get locked on an animation and get exposed to being seen during loot so you have to make the decision, loot now or later? In OG thief games you could literally loot in front of the guard provided you were in the dark. It was ridiculous. You could also waltz in and go around tapping every piece of loot.Yes THI4F looting is more frustrating but its deliberately incorporated with gameplay mechanic to increase difficulty. Same with window openning
>>722565014No hope but I'm still going to buy it.
>>722580714Don't fucking do that you gigantic faggot. Buying will only encourage them to make more slop. If you must play it then pirate it or something.
